Hello all,

I just joined the forum and wanted to say hello. I used to play a lot back in the late nineties/early 2000s in the North/Central NJ and NYC areas (and the yearly trip to the SBE). And then real life got a hold of me. After more than a decade away, I decided to make my rounds. I was sad to see that many rooms had gone out of business and some great players had passed on.

I don't play very well anymore so I'm left with my memories and telling the younger generation about "the old days". I'm not sure if I have it in me to get back into the sport enough to be happy with my level of play. But I do still feel drawn to pool as the first time I picked up a cue. I have considered starting to collect cues as a somewhat skewed substitution for playing but haven't decided yet. Anyway, I just wanted to say hello.

Welcome, fish!

It is a different pool world now, but the top players play better than ever and you can see them all on the YouTube.

Welcome to the forum, sir.

I'm one of the resident pool ball collectors. It would be a pleasure to have you look in to our thread any time you have a spare hour or two.

Welcome aboard. Tough game to walk away from.

And where Glen is.

PHP:

If he got the tascarella

Roflmao

So OldmanOfTheSea, this is a fun place.

Since you likely won't get the references, Glen is one of the best table mechanics in the country, although, he took someones rails and couple grand and then started ignoring the guy, he is quite argumentative posts on here nonstop, but for the last few months since the thread calling him out was made, he nows signs in every few days here but won't respond.

Someone supposedly sent out a 5,000$ grand Tasc in place of a 200Schmekle(or 600 dollar jackpot) depending on who you ask.

And John Schmidt ran 626 in straight pool last year, I think most people think he did it, but he won't release the video to the public, so gives us something to bullshit about.

So what you going to do?

Welcome to the forum, glad to have you!!!

I'm an old fart as well. Too bad with age, our skill levels seem to diminish. The eyes, and the eye/hand coordination just isn't what it used to be, but I still enjoy hitting some balls.

Welcome to the asylum.
I was part of the N.J. pool scene from 1961 to 1991 when I escaped Jersey for Colorado.
It's possible we know each other or at least we know some of the same old timers.

Thank you all for the warm greetings!

To answer some questions:

Welcome to the forums, so, whats your prefered game?

- My preferred game is 9 ball. But I'd play just about anything to get on a table..

You can ask him if John's run is legit:grin:

- I'm not so sure about John Schmidt's 626 run if he won't release the video. What tournament was he playing in?

And where Glen is.

- I don't know who Glen is but it sounds like he really screwed someone over.

I had a backup: does he think pool shoes are a good idea?

- Pool shoes? I think any shoe you play in that's comfortable for you is a good "pool shoe".

The Prophesy says: The Old Man of the Sea will come and save Pool.

So what you going to do?

- I think I'm going to start collecting cues and ease back into shooting once this whole corona thing calms down.

- 1991 was a little early for me so I doubt we know each other but I bet we definitely know some of the same old timers.

I was hoping to go to the SBE this year since I haven't been in twenty years. Just to see what's what. Maybe buy a cue or two. Poke my head in the money room and see how that looks nowadays. But it's not looking good. This whole corona thing and rescheduling for only 3 months later without knowing if things will be better or worse. I will probably wait until next year.

“What tournament was he playing in?”

A side has been chosen.

SO WHAT, YOU THINK IT DOESNT COUNT BECAUSE IT WASNT DURING A TOURNAMENT!?!? You’re gonna put an asterisk on his record are ya? Well I’ll tell you something about something and give you the what for...hehe.

John Schmidt made a few month long high run attempts where he played 8 or so hours a day and live streamed some of it, people could show up to watch etc. There was plenty of back and forth over if what he was doing was even constitutional. Some felt he was sullying the good name of the late great Willie Mosconi.

Welcome though. It seems a new thread is better than a “hello” in the new members thread.
