Olhausen Brunswick thread

What facts do you or anyone else have that Olhausen cushions out preform and out last Brunswick cushions other then because Olahausen's web site and Donny says so.I have a few Brunswick's any where from 40 years old with original cushions to fairly new Gold Crowns and the cushions are fine.I also have a Olhausen and the cushions are good on it to.I'm not saying Olhausen builds a bad product. I'm just saying there are no facts as to there cushions lasting longer or out preforming any other cushion on the market, other then because someone said so.

Look, it's not that big of a deal. Just compare the pool room around the country with Brunswick's, Diamonds, and Olhausen tables in them. Olhausen makes a great home table, but falls real short in the commercial industry. Brunswick's been around longer than anyone has, but Diamond is fast becoming the choice table for pool rooms around the country. What good is the rail rubber, if the rest of the table won't stand up to commercial use and abuse? I'd rather change rubber once in a while, rather than throw out my table because it's starting to look offensive to everyone who sees it. The option of changing rubber on an Olhausen is "NOT" available with any other make of rubber. The option of accufast rubber on a Brunswick or Diamond is "NOT" available. So what's next to compare...leg levelers?

Olhausen accufast rubber only works when the rails are 1 1/2" inches thick. Brunswick's and Diamond's are 1 3/4" thick. In order to install accufast cushions on either of these tables, you will have to plane down the thickness of the rails to 1 1/2" inches. Am I missing something here, or has everyone just missed the fact that the rubber on Olhausen tables is almost flat to the rails. Look, in my opinion, Olhausen makes the best home tables in the world hands down, but..not the best commercial pool tables. Diamond is number 1 with their Dymondwood rails, Brunswick is second with their GC's, 1,2,3 and 4's. Who else is next I ask you? Connelly...I've seen rooms in Oregon with Connelly tables in them that looked like they needed replaced. When I spoke with the owner of the room, he informed me that his tables were only 6 years old. Could have fooled me...I thought they looked 30 years old at the youngest...LOL

Bottom line here guys, is that it takes more than rail rubber to make me a believer in any one kind of pool table brand...I look at the fact that I can buy Artimus rubber and replace any rubber on any thing except an Olhausen...but if I can't see the table looking great in 15 to 20 years from now...I'm not satisfied by rubber alone.

I agree Olhausen lacks in the commercial end and I also agree Diamond has the commercial market sold up. I do not agree that Brunswick makes a better table than Olhausen. Olhausen tables are built to last, even economical tables. Their warranty and reputation is really what attracts potential consumers.

Accufast is one of the greatest cushions available. I used to sell against Olhausen and always thought Accufast was a gimmick. I began selling Olhausen tables in '02 and progressively noticed that there was a difference in the cushions and playability. I also like Artemis and is one of my choice cushions. The GC hasn't changed too much over the years and it still remains a top table for commercial use. I think Brunswick's residential/furniture tables are poorly constructed and Olhausen, Connelly etc... has them beat by a mile.

Like Glen said its much more then cushions alone that makes a great table.

I have put Accufast on a number of Brunswick tables. The sub rail angle has to be changed but I have never planed down a rail to make them fit. Nose height came out perfect and I have never heard a complaint. One of the tables is a Centennial which I play on quite a bit. The process was tricky but that's what he wanted. That table plays as good as any... I recommended Artemis but he was sold on Accufast and the room he frequents has a bunch of Champion Pros. The cushions were installed over a year ago and we havent had any problems.

I'm only refering to the GC series of tables, mainly the GC 3's. The rest of the Brunswicks they can keep...LOL I've seen the Olhausen comercial tables in room in CA, and I'm not impressed with the falling apart look of the side skirts, and I don't like nails for holding the pockets in either. Donny could have came up with a better way of attaching the drop pockets a long time ago, but has reframed from doing so. I've met Donny personaly on serveral occasions. On one occasion we almost decided to build coin-operated pool tables together...but that's another story. As far as the whole line up of Olhausen tables go, IMO...they ARE the leader in the industry, I just wish my love for pool extended beyond the commercial industry, but...it is what it is...LOL:D

Donny is a really great and down to earth guy. I have mentioned developing a new pocket and I sure hope there is one in the works. He didn't seem to eager to respond to my email. I have a diagram of my idea. What was up with the aprons?

You could also install Artimus K66 cushion rubber on an Olhausen table as far as that goes, but there's more to the placement of the rubber than just getting the point of the rubber to be at 1 7/16" of an inch high. The main body of the cushion rubber needs to be placed at a certain height as well in order for the cushion rubber to perform as it was designed to do. In vice versa...if you can install Accufast rubber on a GC without planing down the thickness of the rail to 1 1/2" inches, then likewise you should be able to install Artimus K55 or K66 rubber on an Olhausen table without having to build up the rail to be 1 3/4" inches thick...right? Test your skills on that one...LOL

The tables I've looked at...are not billiards technician proof...LOL busted skirt mounting blocks, corners not mounted right...typical stuff.

Don't tell a redneck he can't put 14in tires on 15in rims, he'll argue with you all day that he's already done it, so it CAN be done:D ...lmao

Messen with a fellow Redneck is one thing but don't mess with a Real King Cobra !!!

Won't argue with you on that one... I have never put anything but Accufast and cheap K66 rubber from Crystal leisure on Olhausen's. So how do you do it? :)

You can't...LOL In order to install K55 rubber on an Olhausen rail that is 1 1/2" thick, you'd have to bevel the rail face back so far to get the nose of the K55 rubber up to 1 7/16" of an inch, you wouldn't have hardly any wood left between the rubber and the feather strip. And the hump back on the top of the rubber would be higher than the rail is. As the balls are banked into the rails, the rubber would actually be lifting upward pinching the balls so to speak, so the banks would play like sh@*. Same with K66.

Good to know but that's one of the reasons I like Accufast on Olhausen's. Its a great cushion and there is no need to modify or replace it. I think it plays almost as good as Artemis as far as taking spin and resilience. Artemis is a lot faster initially but will slow down after time.

Hmmmm...I don't quit think so, but I will agree with you that the "cloth" as it's worn will make it appear to slow down. As far as Olhausen's go, why not replace the accufast if it needs to be replaced....with accufast rubber any way...the rails are designed for it...so, use it...lol I'd never put any rubber on an Olhausen...except the accufast in the first place.

Glen

But...the million dollar question is...why would you ever have to replace Accufast rubber in the first place...if it never wears out?

Exactly my point...

Accufast was developed in 1991 and there are a lot of Olhausen's out there pre-90's. Their old rubber was like every other manufacturer's off shore and cheap.

So, why didn't Olhausen make the rubber in the same profile as K55 or K66 and offer to sell it to the rest of the world as a better rubber?...LMAO I know the answer to that question...but, I think you're going to have to work on that one for a while...LOL:D
