Olhausen Champion Tables...

OK guys, we just closed on a house that has a great basement so I am FINALLY able to get a pool table for home.

I'm leaning between the Brunswick Gold Crown V and the Olhousen Grand Champion. I know a fair amount about the Crown's, as I've played on them.

I know NOTHING about the Champion series, other than they seem to be put together pretty well and sell a lot of these tables.

My question is this: Anybody have any experience with these tables that can make a recommendation one way or the other???

Thanks!

I have owned a few GC's and a while back I bought an Olhausen Champion table. I never even set it up and went out and bought my current GCI table.

They do play nice, but not as nice as a Diamond or GC.

Save your time and energy and buy the right table the first time!

GC or Diamond.

Russ....

Jay Helfert was giving a good spot on some GC 5's...Diamond pro am's are tough tables. To each his own. Only grand champions I ever seen play goofy simply because I'm not used to them. Youd also probably wanna tighten up the pockets.

i own one and its a great table, however not in the grand champion league. i would have bought the bruswick had it been made in an 8' size (thats all i have room for), and was a little cheaper. for home use, i think the grand chapion is fine though. i have only had it 3-4 years but have had zero issues whatsoever. as far as the pockets, they appear to be huge, but they will spit any rattled ball out because of the angle that the cushions are cut. i dont find much difference the way my pockets play and the way pockets on gold crowns at poolhalls play.

Olhausen Champion Table

Hey Dakota I have played on them and I will say they were ok. I ended up buying a Diamond Pro Am man what a great table!! If you have any questions give Brian Miller at Diamond billiard products a call 812-288-7665 Good Luck!! "C.D."

Hold out for a Diamond or GC, even if the Olhausen is free including delivery and setup. The Olhausen is not a bad table, just not in the same league with Diamond/GC.

I have an Olhausen. It plays very well and going from it to a GC doesn't bother me. I had 2 problems with my table. The first was one piece of slate didn't match the other 2. Mix up from the dealer. Olhausen corrected the problem with no hassle. The dealer wasn't to happy since they made the mistake. The second was the setup. The guys that did it really sucked. You will have to make sure they do a good job regardless of which table you get. If the install sucks the table will play like ass. I believe that Diamond uses factory installers so that would be a plus for them. I could be wrong about that though.

For my 2 cents, go with the olhausen. I play on a 9ft champion fairly often, and it plays great. Also, they are made in the u.s., not asia.

Olhausen Rails Are Lower

Olhausen rails are lower. Not the cushion nose; that's at normal height - but what's above the height of the cushion nose, the rest of the cushion and the rail behind it. That's a little lower on Olhausens than on other tables, which lets you hit lower or with a more level cue when the cue ball is near the rail.

But even though I think Olhausen's lower rail is a good design that gives more cue ball control, I'd choose the higher rail that everybody else plays on.

I owned a Olhausen Montrachet for 14 years for the first 10 years I loved it. Then I met a local dude that had a diamond pro and I had to switch. The Grand Champion table is much more of a players table then the Montrachet is, by that I mean a more beefy table with wider rails. The rail width means allot to me, and the Olhausen that you are looking at has wide rails so I like it. Having said that, go with the best table you can afford. For me I upgraded to the Diamond although I would have been happy with a Gold Crown. Good luck on your decision and let the AZ world know the out come.

Gold Crown with pro cut pockets. I see no reason even comparing a Olhausen to it...

Get the gold crown. You can never go wrong with a gold crown.

These were my thoughts as well.

I guess the biggest thing is that a brand new Gold Crown is about $2K more than a new Grand Champion.

Of course, if It's that much better, than it's worth it. I was just wondering if I'm going to notice $2K worth of difference between the two tables???

Should I save some money, and possibly wish I had gotten a Gold Crown, or should I just get the best and be happy???

If you are going with that line of thinking, just go out and buy the absolute cheapest table that you can find.

Doesn't really make much sense when you think about it does it??

why not buy one of those 9' diamonds from that guy in dayton? Im sure realkingcobra can set it up for you. at $2500 with all that is included, i would say buying a new one is a bit silly. search for diamonds in dayton and you can see what the deal is. just a thought....

If I were you, I would wait to find a deal on a Diamond Pro on Ebay. This is how I got mine 2 years ago and I can't say enough good things about the Diamond table. It has extra sturdy construction, banks true, rolls straight as an arrow after two years of set up. In fact, the only signs of wear (it was made in 2005 and I have owned it since the spring of '07) is the tournament blue simonis 860 that now has skid lines from breaking. Also, mine has the diamondwood rails, which I would highly recommend. This material looks great (to me anyway) and can really take a beating. I went to the basement during a party and observed to my horror my friend's 4 year old child beating the cue ball unmercifully and repeatedly against the top of the rail. No dent or damage whatsoever. Great stuff. Also, I got mine for $3,200 and I can say that it was the best $$$ I have ever spent. In any event, good luck on your purchase.
