On The Road Again with Perfect Aim....

Glad to be in Cincy........

The room I got in Cincy is so nice and quiet. I was staying at the Value place in indy on Rockville road. There is a train tracks right in back of the building and the train sounds like it is right in your room when it goes through. It seemed like there was a train coming through about every 3 or 4 hours. kind of tough to get a good nights sleep.

I think I slept about 4 hours last night total. I drove to Cincy and was just wiped out. Got my stuff unloaded and was planning on getting to the poolroom but i layed down for a minute and it turned into about 5 hours.

I plan on spending alot of time doing free clinics with the pool teams at Micheals and the surrounding pool places in town. When i try to do too much playing I never seem to get anything done. I'm either playing or resting. Plus when I play 5 to 6 hours in one day those darn ribs, back, neck, shoulder and back get pretty stiff and sore. Still trying to heal up from the motorhome accident and shoulder surgery.

The biggest secret to my success on the road, keeping my head above water, is just digging in and trying to help players improve their game forgetting about my own game and what I need to do to stay in stroke.

Most of the time when I get in a tourny and play I tell A player every once in a while that I only played about 3 hours that week. I know they don't believe me but it's the truth.

I would have loved to play Bob Dickerson Sr over there in Indy for 2 weeks to get back in top stroke but it would be pretty selfish on my part by chewing up too much time. I'll just get back out of stroke in a week and not be helping anyone else.

Part of the problem of not sleeping last night was from the aches and pains from playing so hard for about 6 hours made it hard to sleep. I think it was 6. it seemed like about 20.

Anyway, this week is going to be all about teaching the players here in Cincy the most amazing aiming and alignment system in the world. There are some high profile teachers out there teaching my thing right now but that's ok. Players need to know. The game of pool needs to know this everywhere.

Without knowing what I teach I liken it to having to look through binoculars and you just can't get the focus quite right when you cut to the right or cut to the left depending on which eye is your dominant eye.

Once I show a player just a little bit of how this works, I can see it in their eyes that they are saying, You got to be kidding.

Got to get some more sleep. Tourny back in Indy Sat. but i need to get back to work right here in Cincy.

Somethin brewing at Micheals in Cincy.......

I gave a lesson at Micheals and then i gave a lesson to Micheal.

Nice guy. I can see why he has a thriving business. great set up for a poolhall also.

Micheal has had trouble playing for awhile. A scratched cornea on his right eye. He was sure that he was right eye dominant. At least that is what the pointing and circles test always told him.

We found out that he is absolutely left eye dominant.

He was trying to force his right eye to be dominant a little which made the shot not look quite right. Once we got it straightened around and got that left eye right he was firing the ball in and said it looked Perfect Aim.

I told him that is what it is. Perfect Aim.

And what better person to tell everyone that this is the real deal but Micheal himself.

Plus, Chip Compton and Joey Gray came strolling in looking for action.

They were talking some $500 a game something when I left to make some fliers for lessons at Micheals. Can't wait to get back and see what's going on.

I might even get in the mix here somehow. If not playing a little side bet or maybe a big one. Just got to figure out who has the best of it.

As Joey and Chip came walking over they said, man, your everywhere. I told them, that's me.

The oldest road player i know. Still on the road........

Got to get back down there before anything kicks off.

There was all kinds of stuff going on........

When i got back down there to Micheals Chip was already in action with Shannon. They were playing a race to 4 one pocket. Shannon was getting 9 to 8.
it was 2-2 when i left.

I got some action with Jakes. We played one set to 9. 9 ball. He plays pretty good but is classic needs Perfect Aim like most players. He was extreme both ways. When he cut a shot to the right if he missed it was too thin and to the lest it was too thick.

I told him I could fix that for him. He plays pretty good and this would just put him over the top.

I won the set but didn't have to. the table we played on had some nasty tight pockets. My practice with Dickerson a couple of days ago paid off. I made some tough shots in the center of the pocket. Now that was fun,,,,,,

But there I go again. Instead of working on lessons and passing out fliers I was playing. I did set up about 4 lessons today though.

All work and no play is not as much fun.

Joey Gray was in action with the local guy that was Going off. I don't know the guys name but he didn't look like he could win. I talked to some of the local players and they said that was the guy to play. he plays all day and just gets wore out. That's tough. He might even be a good player.

Micheals stays open all night so i will stop back in the morning to set up some more lessons or pick up some scraps.

Bedtime. one man a van and the road.......

Seems like there is always action at Micheals.

I went down tonight and Chip and Joey were still there. They were trying to get a game with a guy they call Dead Money at the poolhall. I don't know his real name but he's in action all the time. So far i havn't seen him book a winner.

Chip was side betting with him on his current game which is smart. Just to get some kind of action going with this guy. Get him stuck a little and then get him to play with a big enough spot.

i set up another lesson with a young guy named Bill that works there. This will be a fun lesson. Already showed him a little. He's left eye dominant and has trouble cutting to the right like everyone else that is left eyed. Once this kid gets it right with the eyes he will be pretty competitive for sure.

Got back to the room here at 3:30AM and need to get some sleep. Had another guy named Bill that stopped at the counter looking for me earlier.

As long as Chip and Joey are here there is always a chance for some huge action. Just fun to watch and bet a little sweat money.

One man a van and the road......

Got a little action and gave a few mini lessons...

Chip and Joey went to Kick Shots across the border into Kentucky.

I don't know how that turned out but i think from what I heard that they were playing Shannon some more one pocket. Giving 8 to 7.

I personally think that Chip has the dead nutz in this bet. I wish i would have known that they were going to play because i certainly would have tried to get a sweat bet of $100 or $200.

There were a couple of guys sitting at a table when i got into Micheals today. I showed them both how to see the shots better but not the whole thing. Kind of wasted my time trying to get a lesson with them but you never know.

Then a guy named Dallas came up to me and said he can only see out of one eye. I figured this was kind of a hustle but I could see that he only used one eye when he was shooting.

He asked me to play some $5 9 ball. I need some practice so i told him sure.

We started out playing and I wasn't shooting very well. The pockets were shimmed on this 9 foot diamond but i knew it would be just a matter of time when I would start seeing the shots well.

After we had shot about 1/2 hour Dallas made the comment that I don't shoot any better than him. And at that point and time I would have to agree.

After about an hour of playing we were just about even. i think I was 4 games ahead. Now don't get me wrong. Dallas can actually play. If the balls are there he usually gets out. On this table that is pretty good.

All of a sudden it happened. I've been waiting for this for about a week. Didn't play much for about a month and 1/2. Nothing seemed to gel.

I don't think Dallas could believe what just happened. I went from not being able to get out at all sometimes to running racks.

I won $80 and he finally quit with a big smile. He told his buddy, i have no chance at all here.

It was fun and it wasn't about how much we played for. it was trying to get my stroke back.

For 2 months i had Zack with me and was having him do most of the shooting. i was kind of sick so that worked out pretty good. Then Christmas came and New years and I took off by myself on the road. Got sick again so i still didn't play much.

So to do what I did tonight felt pretty good. Now I won't be afraid to bet a little bit of money. I know i can get the train going again.

Most of these players in these local pool halls play pretty good. in order to beat them at 9 ball it helps if you can string a few racks here and there and play some safes that actually work.

Tomorrow i meet up my son. This is going to be fun. I havn't seen him for a few years. He actually my step son. His name is Roney. He's a defensive lineman for the Cincy Bearcats. I married his mother in around 2002 and brought Roney and his brother Sady to the USA from Colombia. When they came Roney was 9 and Sady was 5. We sure had allot of fun.

So there might not be too much going on with the pool until later tomorrow night.

Had a great lesson today.........

Went to a gorgeous home today and gave a lesson on a beautiful diamond table.

Ian was one of those players from AZ that just knew that there was something to this eye business. He was not disappointed.

After we got done with the Perfect Aim lesson I showed him how to use the predator 314-2. I think he will be buying one in a few days if not sooner.

Once a player gets the eyes right and takes allot of the deflection out of the shot and aim right where you are shooting the results are pretty amazing.

I really enjoyed this lesson and know that Ian's game is going to take a serious jump quickly.

I could see the satisfaction in this young players demeanor just to know how this works. Knowing is powerful.

Good luck there Ian and be sure to call if you have any questions at all.

Thanks again.......

Got caught up on sleep I thing last night.......

I've been reading some studies on sleep and it isn't just so easy to catch up on sleep that is missed as we think. It's really important that you get that 8 to 9 hours every night. If you get in a match where they want to play past your needed sleep time push it a little but get the sleep.

If your on the road this is a must. If your going to a tourny the 3 or 4 days before you go there are very important. Take care of the sleep time during this time period and you will fare much better.

Yesterday I got woke up after 3 hours of sleep from the cleaning person at this motel. Didn't clean anything anyway just woke me up and took a bag a garbage. Not hardly worth getting woke up. The then maintenance guy came knocking because the door came off one of the shelves and I had told them the day before. Then I had to go meet up with my son and then latter do a lesson.

Needless to say the lack of sleep sure took a toll on me and took allot of pleasure out of everything I was doing.

If I would have been playing pool for any money it would have probably cost me some money.

Many times on the road here I will have things happen that don't allow me to get proper sleep. It just happens. I'll get into a game with someone and can't win and sometimes with some pretty high bets.

Can't win so i go back to bed and get 8, 9 or 10 hours of sleep and win my money back the next day. it usually stops there because the player doesn't want anything to do with me now.

My top gear is usually a notch above the top players at most poolhalls but I'm usually not at my top game. Be it from lack of sleep or not playing enough.

My best advice for young players or just players in general is to take care of the few days before a tournament or action. This way you are starting out with a full tank of energy.

Much needed when your under fire.

Today I want to play someone. I feel good and feel like I can focus real good. This is sometimes not a correct feeling because my body has not fully recovered from the non sleep beating it took yesterday. It can take 2 or three days to get back your full energy.

Good news is I have lessons to do so I can't play. I'll get a good nights sleep tonight and then play someone. But wait. I have lessons the next day.

See what I mean. It's real hard to stay in stroke on the road giving lessons. And no matter who you are and what you know, you still have to play everyday to play at a higher level day in and day out.

I'm lucky I know how to line up these eyes right or I would be sunk. Most of the time players practice is wasted just trying to get the eyes right naturally. Needs to be there and can be taught or done the same as lining up the sights on a gun.

The players that play in the poolhalls that work for a living are usually playing tired allot. After working 8 hours or doing many of the other things that life hands out like the wife or kids or both. Life and living is busy even before you hit a ball for the day.

On the road like I am, is just like working a job. The practice is limited because as soon as I'm playing too much I'm not paying the bills. $150 per day at the least.

But I do have one luxury that most players don't have. i don't have to play to survive on the road. But If I didn't play it would sure cut out allot of fun.

All work and no play.....

The calcutta was sweet too.

I headed over to John Waynes and who did I meet there but Brian Groce.

We had a few battles over the years. The most notable was the Gomez Open in Olatha Kansas. I think it was in 1998 or 99.

They had a $500 entry fee, winner take all, 9 ball, race to 15, single elim.

There was 16 players in it with about 8 pros that rolled in the second day.

it started at Midnite and lasted until noon the next morning.

When all the smoke cleared it was Brian Groce and myself in the final.

I was ahead 14 to 9 thinking that i had things under control.

Brian ran 5 racks to tie it up 14 to 14. He broke dry and I ran out.

It was winner take all and Brian reminded me that we did a saver.

$5000 and $3000. That was a nice payout for sure for both of us. We both beat allot of good players that night.

They also had a little calcutta. I went for the minimum of $200.

A couple of guys went for over $1000 if I remember right.

The calcutta was sweet too.

Once 2 players battle it out in a contest like this you kind of gain allot of respect for your opponent. This was no exception.

Tonight was really a treat. We played a couple of sets. Played for just enough that it hurt a little if we lost.

Brian blew me away the first set. He ran out from everywhere. It was kind of intimidating to say the least. but that is the kind of player that Brian is. intimidating.

I flipped the coin for the second set and got ahead 5 to 3 only to screw up 2 outs in a row.

Got my bearings back and won the second set 9 to 5.

Can't even express the fun this was. I've been playing about 3 hours a day trying to get back to playing again and it has paid off.

I know Brian enjoyed the good competition also.

I showed him a little Perfect Aim also. He's right eye dominant and just like all right eye dominant players he had trouble with the shots to the left.
I showed him how to fix it. It wasn't the whole Perfect Aim lesson but it was enough to make Brian tougher to beat.

Maybe I should have waited to show him until I was about to leave.

Oh well.

One man a van and the road.

Still waiting for my CD and discounted lesson.:confused::confused::confused:

Got one heck of a story to tell tonight when I get back.

I ended up sleeping in the van.

I learned another big life lesson...........today I feel like a lucky man !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Got to get to work. the story will be latter......

The day started out in Cincinnati.........

I saw my step son, Roney lozano.

Then I headed for Louisville. Got there and went right to Bank Shots. i looked up and it was right there so i went in. Soon a guy named Greg Sullivan walked in and asked me if I wanted to play. i said sure.

I soon found out that he is the man at Diamond Tables. After playing for about 1/2 hour his opponent came in and our practice was over. But he did tell me he wanted to set up a Perfect Aim lesson which was pretty sweet.

Then i went to Diamonds Pub and billiards. I met a young man there, Jason Chesser. After playing with him and showing him a little of Perfect Aim he was firing in the balls pretty good. He set up a lesson for the next day.

Then in walked Brock. Our own from AZ billiards. Pretty nice guy. We shot a little and I showed him a little and then we took off to the other poolhall.

It was getting kind of late and I needed to get a room so Brock kind of guided me to where some cheaper rooms were. They were all filled up. They got this Farm equipment show going on and everything is filled up everywhere.

Now here's where the story starts. I was at the Hotel louisville. $139 per week or $44.00 per day. They were filled up. This was about my 40th motel I had tried to check into.

As I was in the lobby a guy about my age came walking in and it appeared the gal behind the desk knew this guy. I think he was homeless and she immediately told him that he couldn't sit in there for the night.

It was kind of cold outside, about 40*. I couldn't imagine being outside in that cold all night.

Hi8s immediate reply to her was He wanted to rent a room. She shot back at him that they didn't have any which was true. To which his reply was, I'm calling the police.

He didn't explain what he meant but walked out front right away.

I felt sorry for the old guy but there wasn't much I could do.

I was going to go outside and ask him If he needed a ride someplace when up came an ambulance. They were putting him on a stretcher and loading him up. He must have had something wrong going on with his health and felt this was the only avenue to take.

I was kind of happy for the old guy and thought to myself how terrible it must be to not have a home and just be walking around the streets trying to survive. And he sure wasn't treated with too much respect with the gal behind the desk but I really don't know the history there .

As I continued my search for a motel room i thought about the old guy and how tough it had to be.

Finally I gave up my search. i thought to myself, where would be a good place to park and sleep in the van. i had never done this before with the idea of sleeping all night. It was 4:00 AM now and I had to do something. So I went back to the Hotel Louisville where the old man left in the ambulance.

I thought if these guys can sleep outside i certainly can sleep the night in my van.

The back of my van is full of stuff so i had to kind of lay down on both seats. Not very comfortable. I put in some ear plugs to cut out the car noises and tried to go to sleep.

After about an hour I went in my suitcase and got out my eye mask to shut out the light. Finally i fell asleep. But only for a few minutes at a time. It was starting to get pretty cold. I started the car up a couple of times when i woke up because I was really feeling it. And each time I woke up I thought about that old man and what he had to go through every night.

I don't know how long he had been homeless but from what I'm experiencing tonight even a few days is too long.

As I would wake up and look to see what time it was I would see the people from the motel getting in their cars around me. I was sure they seen me but maybe not. if they did they just ignored me.

Finally I really did crash and got some sleep. I woke up and it was almost 4:00 PM. I had to hurry because I had a lesson to do at 7:00.

I got a room at an extended stay motel. As I was checking into the place I couldn't quit thinking about the old man and how hard that must be to do that every night and day. Out in the cold just trying to survive.

I thought to myself, your a lucky man . Things could be really bad. And seeing this old guy first hand and then getting a taste of what he goes through everyday was an awakening to say the least.

Before I went out to hit the poolhalls tonight i thought to myself.

Gene, your a lucky man. You got a roof over your head and a job that will go on forever and nobody can take it away.

But you never know. We all have to be thankful for what we have and where we are at in life. You never know when fate will lead us down an unknown path that we never thought we would be on.

Today I feel very fortunate. I can't wait to get in the bed and pull up the covers and shut my eyes knowing that I will be rested in the morning and I can cook some food when i wake up.

That was another thing.

I was starved and no food. I just can't imagine. No money, no food. Day in and day out. over and over and over again.

We need to count our blessing. I know I am....

One man a van and the road........

Counting mine Gene. What is the old saying? "But for the grace of God, there go I."

Need to go do some CPR today.....

I have my day all planned out and then I get a call.

A player that called me for a phone lesson a year or so ago just called me about 1/2 hour ago and said he quit playing awhile ago because he was just so frustrated.

He read the thread about me being in Louisville and gave me a call. I told him I had to be down to the Diamond Pub and Billiards to pass out fliers and set up lessons.

After talking to Earl for about 5 minutes he said he wanted to set something up for a personal lesson. I told him, what are you doing right now. He said nothing much. I said i'll be over as soon as I eat something and take a shower. I don't think he could hardly believe i would be there that quick.

Once I get done with Earl he will never want to quit again. I'm starting to think I should rename Perfect Aim and call it CPR for Pool. Because that is exactly what it does. Revives a stale and stagnant game.

Earl can't wait for me to get there and I can't wait to get going.

I'll just have to get to Diamond Pub and Billiard a little bit later, like 3 hours for sure.

I have a pool life to save.

Boy this is fun.

This is the first day in the rest of my life, i woke up in a nice warm bed and fixed a great meal.

Top it off with a pool life saving Perfect Aim lesson.

It don't get any better than this.

One man a van and the road......here we come. Full speed ahead....

And Thankful.......

Fun lesson with Big E Yesterday..........

Got a call yesterday from Earl. He talked to me about pool and told me he had quit playing for about a year. Said he was frustrated with trying to play and had quit. I really wanted to help.

I drove 9 hours to give a lesson 2 years ago and earl was only about 15 minutes away from my motel. As soon as he said he wanted to schedule a lesson I told him I'd be right over.

When I got to the house it was just beautiful. We went down into the basement and it was just as nice and there it was. The masterpiece. A real nice 8 foot table.

I knew from experience that something really special would happen today.

As Earl showed me daughters accomplishments in golf, which were unbelievable, I could sense that here was a guy that was an athlete and I know he has a burning desire to play this game we all love and was really frustrated because he just couldn't get there.

Then when he told me that he had a 300 game bowling under his belt a while back, I knew this was going to be fun.

I had earl shoot a few shots and saw the results and didn't know how far i could take him that day but if this was video taped and i showed it on AZ the players would have thought it was all staged.

Earl went from 0 to 60 in about 2 hours. Here was a case where he should be a higher rating in APA and just knew he was capable of playing better. But the position of the eyes is the whole thing when it comes to aiming. if the brain is not getting the correct picture it can't tell your body parts to do the job right no matter who you are. After seeing the results he would move up 2 numbers for sure. I have no doubt.

I hope he tells his own side of the story here.

Most of the Perfect Aim lessons have extreme results. This was double extreme results . During the lesson i would just sit back and smile and sometimes even laugh at the rediculous quick results Earl was having and he was having the time of his life seeing the shots correctly for the first time.

Just when I think I have experienced the biggest high I could get from teaching pool I meet up with a guy like Earl.

I got an offer from Earl to stay at the house during the Derby next year. If I go there next year I will take him up on that. And to me that is pretty special for someone to offer you their home. If you read this Earl I want to thank you again.

If i do come back next year to the Derby Mr Earl will get the workout of his life on that pool table and who knows, he might even be playing in the Derby.

You never know.......

Thanks Mr Earl...

Had to come here first anyway.......

So whats the plan after Louisville Geno?? Wee bit to far to make that drive again... I am still recuperating from Derby.... LOL

Chris

I plan on coming to Lexington after I get done here. It's been kind of crazy here. They love their pool like the rest of us.

Dana came down from Indy. One of the lessons I missed there when I left. Have 2 players coming down here from cincy. I missed then also. I even have a guy coming down from Michigan I think. We'll see. Maybe.

I went to the Billiard Club here in Louisville today. I met Trey, one of the owners and have yet to meet Mark, the other owner.

I showed trey what was going on with the eyes and he was really surprised. Happy to see how to correct the aim though.

I was going to go to Bank Shots and work with a league but decided to stay right at the Billiard Club . They had a league there. I did a Free clinic giving little mini lessons with perfect aim.

I did 26 minis and set up 3 lessons from those with about 3 other players that might call. It was so much fun. i'm really pooped right now.

One of the league players couldn't believe he could finally see the shot and fire the ball in the hole. He was a 3. I said was a three. I worked with him before the league and they were already complaining about his shooting tonight a little. He came over to tell me.

I worked with the bartender and i worked with the security guy. They wanted to see what all the hype was and they saw. They were impressed also.

My lungs are better I think. I'm still pretty tired but at least I'm not wheezing. Kept at it from 1:00PM right up to midnite.

No action though. No time for action. No time to play.

This is a good way to get out of stroke for sure. Many time when i play in the tournys I'm not really ready to play.

Lexington is next though mr Chris and I will get there.

Never was so Thankful to look at a nice warm bed.

This is Earl and I really want to thank you for the kind words. The lesson was great and I enjoyed meeting you. Your right I was quite surprised when you offered to come over right away. I was ready to get started as soon as possible. The lesson began with me shooting a few straight-ins. I think I missed four in a row and right away you let me know I was left eye dominate and not right eyed. I then made 7 or 8 in a row, which was a great feeling. From there it was just a matter of getting in the right position time after time. So I could see the shot correctly. I was shocked that you spent over 3 hours with me, it was above and beyond anything I expected. I shot another couple hours after you left and another four hours today and I’m really enjoying myself. I must say my neck and shoulder is a bit sore from the new head position but it’s ok as I watch balls fall that I would normally struggle with. Gene you are welcome here anytime you are in the area.
Thank you for your help I needed it.
