On The Road Again with Perfect Aim....

I hope you read this Don before noon,,

I checked out of the raddison and got into a new motel.

Since i had the trouble with the bed bugs I thought to myself that I better check the bed.

I had checked into the motel, Nice one, and then i went to the poolhall. Came back at 11:30 and brought in all my stuff. I put a foam rubber padding under the sheet to protect my ribs. they still hurt if I don't use the pad.

I killed about 10 bed bugs in the next 10 minutes. 5 of them were adults and the other 5 were little.

How that for luck. I got on the internet and found out that Cincy is the top infested city in the USA. Dayton and Columbus are both in the top 10. I wonder where Indy is. From what I see it's got to be right up there.

Got to wash and dry all my clothes and my coat. Suitcase goes out in the car with my bag for my razor and stuff. It's freezing out. I can't imagine they like that too much.

Don, i know you said you were going to be at the poolroom at 12:00. I'm not going to be able to get there. Still washing clothes and still havn't got to sleep. Looks like 6:00AM bedtime.

Good nite or good morning or something.........

I was going to around the first of the year

Have you had a chest x-ray recently? They're not that expensive and might help identify what the problem is.

But I felt like it was getting better.

Hopefully one more bout with antibiotics will do it.

You're right though. I should have just had it done.

Geno Machino

I got down to the poolhall about 3:00. Not too much going on as far as action but I didn't really look things over real good.

I met Doc Don. Pretty serious pool player and a real nice guy.

We talked for a few minute and I was telling him how I'm staying here for a week to try and get my lungs right. I've had this going on for about 3 months now.

He immediately offered his help and said he would trade his medical expertise for a Perfect aim lesson.

I was talking about the retinal field of vision and he knew exactly what I was talking about. Is he in for a surprise. I will get him shooting the best pool of his life in a real quick hurry. this is going to be so much fun.

Then in came Tom Karabotsas. Sorry Tom but I don't know how to spell your last name. He was looking for some action and I told him I hadn't played much for the last 3 weeks. I told him i would play some cheap sets for some good practice. He's on his way to louiville and felt he needed a tuneup.

he said he'd play some $50 sets, Race to 9 9 ball.

The first one went hill-hill and Tom was running out and hung the 8 ball in a pocket. I felt like a thief.

We played another one and i started to hit a gear a little and won 9-5.

Like most players when they lose, even though it was only $100 Tom woofed a little about how we should play some one hole.

I told him I don't play it and he knows that.

Anyway, Tom got a game with a local player and beat him out of the $100 he lost to me at $10 per game. He shot lights out.

After he got done I asked him if he was ready again. he just smiled and said No.

Tom and myself are pretty good friends. The way we played here is just some friendly jousting. A player needs this to get their game on. Many players make the mistake Of trying to play for too much and they kill all of their practice action.

I don't know if Tom will play me some more 9 ball or not when we cross paths next time. I think he will. He's a great player and a tough competitor.

I think he's going to surprise some players at the derby for sure.

There are alot of players that stop at the Brickyard on the way to the Derby. This in itself is kind of fun. just be there and see so many old friends.

I'm going to play a little more 9 ball tomorrow. Who knows,if I can get feeling better i might show up.

I'm only about 115 miles from there.

Got to get to bed. Doc said he would be there at about 12:00.

Can't wait.

Gene,
You're providing a chronicle of the life of a pool player, without the false bravado and exaggerations sometimes seen in the pool world.

Everyone knows I am a big fan of yours and Perfect Aim. When you tell us how you played, who you played, how much you played for and how it went, it just impresses the heck out of me.

If I was lucky enough to beat any of the guys you beat, I would be reluctant to tell a soul.:p

Keep it rollin'.

But I felt like it was getting better.

Hopefully one more bout with antibiotics will do it.

You're right though. I should have just had it done.

It's not too late to get it done. If you're experiencing symptoms like shortness of breath, coughing, wheezing, or chest pains, play it safe and get the chest x-rays taken sooner rather than later.

Derby Pool Lesson?

Hey Gene, Are you going to be there next week or maybe coming to Columbus in the near future? I'd like to talk to you about a lesson, maybe even a small group thing.

You got it Steve.......

Hey Gene, Are you going to be there next week or maybe coming to Columbus in the near future? I'd like to talk to you about a lesson, maybe even a small group thing.

I won't leave this area until we can do some business. Ohio is a great pool area and I'm really enjoying my time here.

And the fresh, smoke free pool rooms.

I'm going to Cincy for sure after Indy and I think Columbus is right next in line.

Looking forward to it Mr Steve.....

Players need to beware of bed bugs.....

If you travel to these tournaments or stay in motels at all you need to know where and how to look for these little critters they call bed bugs.

They're not hard to find. Pull back the sheets and look around the seems of the mattress. If the head board is attached to the wall in many of these motel you can lift it right off and look.

They are about the size of a capitol letter right here on my screen. They're not real quick but they can move and they just try to hide.

They are attracted to the carbon Dioxide that we breath out. That is how they find you. The reason they are in the bed is they just go far enough to hide. They don't go on a mission. They just go far enough. They know you'll be back somehow.

You can avoid this problem by just inspecting the room. If they are there you will find them. They will be in the bed or close by.

If you've been in a place that has bed bugs you need to put your clothes in a dryer and have the heat on high. Make sure everything gets real hot. This will kill them for sure. Then wash and dry the clothes after that.

Throw your coat and anything else in that dryer also. Many dryers don't get hot enough. The big ones at the motel that they use do and if you can use them do. They are also big enough to put anything in them.

The other option for a dryer is the big ones at the laundry mats.

From what I've learned these little bugs don't want to stay on you once your moving. They just want somewhere to hide. A moving person is not a good hiding place. Clothes and suitcases is how we transfer these the most.

If you are on the road you can't afford to have the down time it takes to get rid of these things so an ounce of prevention can save you time and money.

They don't care if your rich or poor. They don't care if your at the Radison or the Comfort inn. They just want a nice bed to hide in and be close to their source of food. You.

They are not that tough to get rid of. it's kind of funny but some people when I tell them that I got bed bugs at the motel their kind of afraid to even shake your hand.

The real deal is I'm probably less likely to have any bed bugs because all the cleaning and things I went through to make sure they were gone. And let me tell you, we become an expert real quick on how to get these little monster out of our life.

I'm going to keep an eye on the room and see if they rent it out before they debug it. That would really be a shame but I can see that happening. Losing money.

Anyway.

Need to head down to the poolhall and hit some balls. was playing pretty good last night. I've been playing with this predator cue and it has the biggest weight pin in it they have and it's still not heavy enough for me so I just taped 3 pennies about 4 inches from the joint on the butt and it seems to have done the job.

I like the cue to do allot of the work. If it's too light you have to force the ball to much. Not good.

Don't let the bed bugs bite.

Went to John Wayne Billiards tonight.......

What a nice place. A whole bunch of diamond bar tables and a couple of 9 foot diamonds.

There were some leagues going on and I ended up doing about 4 mini lessons.

As usual they were amazed.

I might get a lesson or 2 out of there.

Went back to Brickyard but it was pretty quiet. Most of the main players are at the Derby.

I played a little while. Did some drills.

Left and went to the fitness center and worked out. The only way i know to get this old body back in shape. Just got to make sure I don't overdo it.

Looks like I will have to swing down to the derby in a couple of days.

Just got done with a unique phone lesson........

Got a call this tonight from Ryan from West Virginia. He had left a phone message asking me to call him because he had some questions.

Now Ryan had bought the Perfect aim DVD from me awhile back and he called me for the free phone lesson. He told me soon after he was seeing the shots better and playing the best pool of his life.

Then he got a $1000 lesson and quit doing what I showed him and went with the $1000 program. he said his game went down hill.

So he got the Perfect aim DVD back out and got back on track. He was calling me for a tuneup to make sure he was getting it right.

Was he happy he did. It was so much fun working with him. It made my day. I also got to share all the new techniques to help understand Perfect Aim even better.

There are allot of great teachers out there and so many on AZ here that do such a great job. And I tell players all the time what a great job these teachers do. Everyone has something good to offer.

Well, Ryan is back aiming better than ever before now and I was glad to help him some more.

If you read this Ryan i want to thank You again for being a perfect aim customer.

Brickyard, great place to play and hang out........

Still having the lung problem I decided to stay here for another whole week and get my game back in shape some and get some much needed rest.

The players at the Brickyard are real nice guys like most of the poolhalls around the USA.

Doing a few lessons but for the most part I'm using this time for myself.

Going to work with a young man tonight at his house named Jeff. Sounds like an up and coming player. I know he will be pleasantly surprised at his results tonight.

That won't be until midnight so i am going down to Brickyard to play some or do some drills.

If I can get playing fairly like i can I might swing down to the Derby and play in the 9 ball on Wed. But I don't know if I can get there with my game by then.

For the most part though I'm just recharging the old batteries.

$1000 for 16 hours.............

What the hell is a $1000 lesson???

I can't imagine. That's what i was told. Your guess is as good as mine.

It was probably a pretty good lesson.

Tried to discredit me and what I teach but the player soon realized how well what I teach works.

Just because a teacher doesn't understand something shouldn't be a reason to discredit anothers technique.

There are some things out there that don't work very well and I think it can be good to try to help the student try other things that might help them improve more.

Especially when it's tried and true.

I like the fact that the BCA instructors have such a structured teaching. The things you guys teach are tried and true.

This deal I'm talking about sounds kind of off the wall.

Just got done with 2 phone lessons......

And yes, I'm still doing the phone lessons more than ever.

Players keep calling me everyday. I just got done with Anthony from Kentucky and Billy from Houston.

As usual both lessons were a home run.

Got a personal lesson at 12:00 midnite so I got to get going.

The phone lessons took up my practice time but that's OK.

Sometimes practice is way over rated compared to helping a player improve their game.

Still in Indy until Thursday.

Might head to the Derby Wed......

Feeling pretty good. A little r&r does wonders.

Might play in the 9 ball on Wed and I might just come over and let a few lessons find me.

I feel bad about not being there because there was about 10 players hoping to get a lesson while I was there.

If I come over Wed I'll see how I feel. I've been playing a little over at the brick yard so the cue doesn't feel like a broom stick at least.

Besides, i just want to see this big event even if it is just for a day or maybe 2.

Feeling good and back to my old self.......

If everything goes right i will be at the derby tomorrow.

I did 2 lessons today at John Waynes. I have another on Friday night and Sat afternoon. so I have thursday free.

Today i had the energy that I need to really teach well or play someone. It was really good to feel like this again. been awhile.

If I ever go in that smoke again I need to be shot!

SVB is so right by not wanting nothing to do with it either.

I'll see how I feel in the morning. If i go to the derby I will either be looking for someone to play, sure i can find someone, or do a couple of Perfect aim lessons.

Either way it will be great just to see and meet all the players from all over.

I'll have to come back up to cuncy but that's OK. Need to come back to Indy also.

Hopefully , Derby here I come..

Zach is back in Appletone being Zach..

What happened to Zach?

I talked to Zach about 3 days ago. He's ready to come back on the road but I wasn't ready. When i met him in Beloit about a week ago it was pretty obvious to him that i was still pretty sick.

I need to be on top of things and feeling good because i need to be giving alot of lessons to keep rolling especially if there are 2 of us. And i need to step up to the plate and play and I couldn't do that either. Had no energy.

Being diabetic is what probably allowed this cold thing to hang on. immune system is pretty weak if your diabetic.

My lungs right now have felt the best they have. I figure in a week or 2 I'll be just like brand new.

Hard to believe I had this chest cold just keep coming back for 4 months but i think that is what is .

Energy is coming back so i know I'm almost ready.

I might give zach a call in about a week. it was fun having him on the road with me and the job is only about halfway done.

This kid will be a champion.
