On The Road Again with Perfect Aim....

Gene,
I think I have an "outsider" perspective that might elaborate on what you occasionally see from people who can play well or who have been around the block a time or two.

SOME people want to believe that they do just what you teach in Perfect Aim, that way, the credit goes in their own pocket instead of yours. This means that you aren't teaching them anything new and they don't have to buy your video or pay for paying lesson.

The truth is that if we are pocketing the balls "perfectly", we all get the same sight picture regardless of how we get there.

MANY times a player strains and strains as he is playing, trying to get that perfect sight picture and eventually the player finally gets into the right sight picture after many shots. Some might call it getting in stroke, while others might call it struggling.

I have studied many different things in pool and always just consider it a challenge to learn something knew. Perfect Aim isn't going to make the shot for you but it can help you develop a better way of aiming regardless of the aiming system you use.

I notice when I am cold; when I first approach a table after being off of a table for one or two days, the first few shots are easily missed, no matter what aiming system I use. During a tournament I may use different aiming systems but when I am playing perfectly, I just aim and shoot, almost without any conscious thought in my head. When I am cold, I immediately start thinking about Perfect Aim and when I miss a shot, if I am practicing, I can normally set it back up and when I use Perfect Aim, it helps me to get back in line with the correct sight picture and I can use it with any aiming system, CTE/Pro1, Overlap, contact point-to contact point, ferrule aiming, shadow aiming, shaft aiming etc.

I still want to experiment some more with Perfect Aim, possibly under serious pressure and cold (right at the beginning of an important match) and will share what I learn when I am able to do so. In the meantime while practicing and "cold", Perfect Aim is working just fine.

I would love to get in another one on one match lesson with you as I know that even if I lose money to you, you will teach me something about my game that is lacking, especially if I ask you. That's the kind of guy you are.

If I can offer anyone some SAGE ADVICE, it is this: When there is a person around where you are, who plays much better than you do, do everything you can to pick that person's brain, pay for a pool lesson, buy a drink, buy a meal, hell if you're loaded and you really want to really ingratiate yourself to a top player you can offer to comp them for their night's stay.

Even when I paid for pool lessons from top players who didn't teach well, I still learned something new.

You are uniquely qualified to do even more than Perfect Aim. I KNOW, because I've seen you play, done commentary on your matches, been your student and your competitor.

Good luck out there and stay safe.

This weekend Atlanta, GA will have one of the LARGEST weekend tournaments held anywhere. There will be HUNDREDS of competitors there at Mr. Cues II. Yes, it is smoking but some claim it is not "bad smoke" but I can't say one way or the other. I've heard that a few hundred will be showing up to play this week. http://forums.azbilliards.com/showthread.php?t=275441

Great rewarding Night at Brass Rail............

I got there a little late about 7:30. Passed out some fliers to the APA teams telling them what I was doing.

I went over and set up on a table and the next thing I knew is I had 20 players gathered around me. I can only show one at a time so I showed one player and tried to explain to the others along the way what we were trying to accomplish.

I ended up doing 14 small lessons but those mini lessons got some really quick resuls.

One young man, Mark was really surprised he was left eye dominant. He looked like he was a pretty good athlete. Once he got the eyes right it was over. He fired in all the shots that i set up. His reply was just Wow. This is it.

Then there was Diana. She hadn't played for a while but said she was an 8 in the BCA league the last time she played. They had her ranked a 3 in the APA that she has been playing in at the Brass rail.

She was right eye dominant but had the eyes kind of in the middle. No mans land kind of as far as aiming. Once we got her in the right position she was shooting like she never quit at all. She was pretty excited.

I heard some of the guys on the team that she played against complaining about how she didn't miss a ball. I was going to ask them if it was before she got the lesson or after but I didn't. I knew the answer already. She was the first lesson that i gave.

And then there was Mark. Really nice guy and he needed some bridge work and stroke work. Not real tough to fix. Then we went to work on the eyes. he was also right handed , left eye dominant. Very left eye dominant. We got him over where he needed to be and the results were the same.

I always give out a flier for a full lesson if they want to do it. I set up a couple. Overall it was a great night. Got alot of players shooting alot better.

Then one of the guys came over and said this is really going to screw up the league. I don't know exactly how it works with the APA but he was saying already he could see that some averages were going to be too high.

Whatever that means?

Tomorrow I'm going to try and get up early enough to play Mr Ernest from the Dominican. Then at 7:00 they have another great little 9 ball tourny at the Brass rail. I think it's a race to 3 $15 entry fee loser breaks. I'll have to see if i can knock that off again. What fun.

But then depending on if I gamble with Ernesto I might not even get there in time.

All this playing is getting me back in stroke. i might just have to find a tournament real soon to play in.

How far is Georgia from KC Mo. You never Know which way the wind may blow......

Don't forget to let me know when you're heading to Ohio Gene. I am interested to take lessons on your system. Maybe if I know in advance I can let people around me know so you can teach them. I am sure I can do that if I have a little notice.

I will for sure...........

Hi there Jeff,
I will be going there because like I said before on here my son is a 280 offensive lineman for the cincy Bearcats football team.

I will let everyone know for sure when i do go there.

That's going to be a great fun trip.

Thanks again geno......

Love to go to Atlanta but there is too much going on here in Kansas City right now.

I need to share a little quick story here. it really made my whole trip worth while here in Kansas City.

Some of the players here have kind of used Tom as a punching bag over the years . By that i mean they were giving him spots and beating him out of money. Now Tom is a pretty nice guy and he likes to compete. He is a karate instructor here and has his own karate school and for a long time. Plus he would give you the shirt off his back if you asked him for it.

I worked with him for about 3 hours showing him how Perfect aim works. He caught on pretty good as almost everyone does. But I told him not to go out and try to play someone right away because he needs to keep focused on what he's doing. He needed to work at it until it becomes a little more automatic.

Tom gets a game the next day which was yesterday. So much for waiting. Kind of funny. He played Jason, one of the guys that usually gets his cash. Jason gives tom the 7 ball and the last 2.
Tom beat him the first set 9-8. Then he beat Jason the second set 9-7.

Jason wanted to play another set but Tom had to get back to the karate school to do a class with some students. He called and got one of his assistants to fill in. Then he had some other thing came up that he had to take care of also. Something about someone needed a ride.

He told me he kind of lost it mentally during the next set. To many distractions that he had to take care of. He lost the third set.

But the bottom line is Tom was one happy camper. It isn't the money he won but just that he won. He was so excited telling me the story. It was great.

As he was telling me the story I was just listening like a sponge absorbing every single word. It was sweat music to my ears.

Needless to say I'm not going to get out of town without working with Tom some more.

Got 2 lessons tomorrow and 3 maybe 4 on Sat. I told Tom he'd have to wait until Sunday or Monday.

Bummer. I'm sure he's going to go pick a game with someone else and try out his new toy. Perfect Aim.

I hear stories like this all the time but just wanted to share this one because it is pretty special............

I had a gal down there that ran the leagues in Tulsa. I gave her and her teammates a quick Perfect Aim lesson after they got knocked out of the big tourny in Vegas.

they got in the second chance and won it handily.

Could it have been because of their new found aiming ability?

She is or was the ACS, VNEA league operator. I think her name was Sandy if I remember right.

She wanted me to do a seminar for the leagues and even put me up in a motel room.

This was kind of special for me because at this time in the spring of 2009 nobody had a clue about Perfect aim.

I told her someday I would make it. I had so much fun showing them my skinny on aiming. A great bunch of classy ladies.

Congrats again girls on your win out there in 2009.

Motel got me again.........

When I got to Kansas City I couldn't get a room because of the Royals playing the Cardinals. I had to get a smoking room for a couple of days. Didn't get much sleep but I caught up on that a little.

Then I checked into ther Crosslands Motel and got a weekly rate. Not that great at $290 but I don't have to move my stuff and I thought I was getting a nice non smoking clean room. NOT .

Because I was in the smoking room I couldn't smell how bad this room was when i first moved in. The 5th day my throat started burning and could hardly swallow when I woke up. Eye were all glazy and my vision was real blurry. It was pretty sad. My neck even started hurting and my lower back was really biting me. I noticed that the air conditioner smelled kind of funny also. Kind of like a urine smell.

I went down to the office and asked the night girl if I was in a smoking room. She said yes. The smoking rooms are on the 3rd floor. I was pissed. Not at her but at the inconsiderate guy that put me in this room after telling him I wanted non smoking absolutely. I'm sure at the time he thought COOL, I got my last few rooms rented even if i had to scam a little.

I went down to the office the next day. I slept until about 3:30 because I couldn't sleep very good. Sick as could be. I told the day gal that I couldn't believe that they put me in a smoking room after telling them I was very allergic to the smoke. She lied to me and told me it was a non smoking room. I told her whatever, I just need to get a different room. She told me they were all taken.

She lied again. They weren't all rented out. She just didn't have any maids there to clean my room this late in the day so she could rent it out if they got full. I was hot. I told her I was checking out.

I had to do 3 lessons in Topeka. When i got back I was too tired to load my stuff up and get another room. So i just went to sleep.

I woke up even worse than the day before. This room was really pathetic.

They already took the money off my credit card so I'm writing a letter to corperate to see if they will give some kind of consideration for what had happened.

I tried to play tonight and I'm finally totally wiped out. It will take about 3 or 4 days for me to feel human again.

For me this is a real tragedy. The expences are still there but I'm only plugging along on 2 cylinders.

I've been out of the room since 12:00 and starting to feel fairly good. Kind of like I'm at the tail end of a bad cold.

When on the road you need to ask if you can see the room before you rent it. If i would have done this he might not have tried to stick me with this scurg of a room.

I really blew this one. Live and learn.............

Heading to Memphis tomorrow..........

Wow........

I'm excited to be heading to Memphis. It will all start at the Rack with a great tournament. 9 ball on those great 9' diamonds. Can't wait......

Just hope i can get over being sick here in Kansas city. Been holed up in the room for 2 days now. If it's too bad I'll see a doctor before I head out to Memphis. Got alot of trouble breathing. Between the smoking room I was in and the bad smelly air conditioner hard telling what's going on. I seem to have lost some weight kind of fast. That has me worried.

Big truck, Ray Hansen called me and asked if I could participate in the St Judes Childrens Hospitol event that he is planning. I think it took me about 1/10th of a second to say yes.

Ray's doing some pretty good things for pool but this is just pretty cool bringing in some top players to work with these kids. I just hope I can contribute enough. I can't believe I'm going to be involved. Very humbling.

Talk about special moments in life. This has to be on the top of the list......

I'll be heading down there tomorrow and need to get some much needed practice in. Too many lessons here in Kansas City and not enough playing and Practice. easy to get out of stroke a little.

This weekend the Rack, I think St judes during the week and then a great tourny at Cape Giardo, Mo the next weekend.

And I think that Tunica tourny is sneaking up on us also. I've had this tourny in the back of my mind for months and it looks like it will happen for sure now. I don't know if I can win it but I will have alot of fun competing. You never can tell If I get rolling.

Don't get alot of chances to play in these big ones. What fun..........

I was in Memphis about 2 years ago teaching Perfect Aim. This will be the first time back since then. Should be alot busier this time. Word seems to be out more how well it works.

This whole trip is a winner all the way around if I never hit a ball at all...
Right now i feel like one of the luckiest players on the planet.

Memphis? Not too far from New Orleans, straight down I-55. You will not be able to beat every player in New Orleans for sure but you should be able to get some gas money and some pool lessons down this way. We may have trouble staying out of the smoke though.

Ray does a lot for pool. I'm glad to see him putting St. Jude's Children's Hospital at the top of his list. This is what pool players should be doing. My hat's off to all of you.

Watch that weight loss and keep us in the loop. Love hearing your reports from the field. It is something that AZBers may never see again. You write well and you are in the thick of it 24/7.

You could dogleg thru St. Louis.

From KC east on I70 to STL then south on 55 straight on into Memphis.

See ya when you have time.

John

Hi there John,

I was going to if I COULD HAVE LEFT YESTERDAY but I was too sick. I picked up some chest cold. Been sicker than a dog.

I'm hoping to be able to leave tomorrow. I need to practice if I want to play in the Rack tourny in Memphis. That isn't even looking good right now.

Part of the reason I'm sick is from the smoke. My lungs really get screwed up. The Rack is a smoking poolhall. This might not be fun at all. Have to see how I hold up. That's one reason I've been staying out of the south. They still smoke down there. 2 years ago i was at a Waffle House in Tennessee and a guy lite up a cig right next to me. He was in the no smoking section. If I reached out I could touch him. The whole place was only about 25 ft long. How stupid is that? Non smoking section?????????? Like the smoke just stays there.

I stayed out of the restuarants down there after that.

I will be coming back that way on the return trip. I don't know how soon that will be though. Looking forward to getting over there.

Thanks again geno...........

Just pulled into Memphis, tough getting a non smoking room.

I drove straight through from Kansas city to Memphis. really tired. Didn't sleep well last night. Still sick

My goal here is to get a fairly cheap room that is clean and smoke free.

Got here at 9:00PM and after nine motels I got the best of the litter. I'll know if this has been smoked in tomorrow morning. My eyes will be swelled shut. it's hard for me to tell right now because my nose is still so inflamed. My throat hurts and my chest is really congested.

I can't believe i smoked at one time. I must have been crazy. But then back then I wasn't too concerned about my health. You kind of think you are indestructable when your younger.

It's really tough to find a room that hasn't been smoked in, in a smoking state. Even a smoker doesn't want to sleep in a room that smells like an ash tray. So alot of the smokers get non smoking rooms and cheat a little.

Need to go to walmart and get some food. I remember last time I was here they had smoking and non smoking sections in the waffle houses. How stupid is that. The whole place is about 25 feet long.

I'm buying and making all my food here. The restuarants here are off limits to me.

I'll have to be in the smoke at the tourny but at least I can eat and sleep smoke free.

How long will it take for Tennessee and all the other 20 or so states that still allow this to happen, to figure it out and get it right on this smoking crap here.

If I don't feel any better than I do I won't be playing in the tournament. What a shame but there's no sense breathing in more smoke when I already feel bad from KCMO. Another state that hasn't quite got it right yet either.

I wonder how many players that come from non smoking states will go home sick from the smoke. it would kind of be interesting to take a poll from the players.

Got to go. Walmart and then to bed.

Wow Gene. Sorry to hear about your bout with smoke.

Smoking is not allowed in public places around here. I'm glad, that stuff really messes with me too.

Okay, hope to see you on your return trip.

Good luck

Gene isn't exaggerating or whining, just so most of you know that. Gene is a very positive guy in every way. He's got a physical impairement and is dealing with it as best he can.

He's right about how when you're young, you don't worry about your health because the body is so able to deal with elements like smoking and other issues.

I was a smoker until about 15 years ago when I noticed that something was wrong. It wasn't extremely noticeable but I could tell that my lungs weren't operating at the same level as they were for the first 45 years of my life. I quit right then but it was too late. The damage was done. By quitting and continuing to exercise, I am in far better shape than most people who have emphysema/COPD.

I'm really writing this to complement Gene's message about smoking. This isn't meant to be one of those hating threads about how smoking is evil and how non-smokers don't have the right to tell smokers how to live their lives.

This post is designed to give a wake-up call to anyone who is currently smoking or who occasionally smokes.

Ironically, I didn't start smoking until I joined the Marine Corps. Thought it was the fun thing to do. You know, "The Smoking Lamp is Lit". Free cigarettes in your C-rations. Tax free cigarettes at the PX, cheap as sin. Taxes on cigarettes are enormous and I don't quite know how people can afford to smoke financially but like anything, if you want it bad enough you'l find a way to justify spending your dough on it, or you'll find a way of getting it.

I'm not telling any of you what to do but I can guarantee you a couple of things: When you are in the last years of your life, gasping for air, taking drugs to help your lungs along, you will wish that you had never started smoking or that you had quit sooner.

COPD (chronic obstruction pulmonary disease) is a catch-all for multiple respiratory illnesses. For the most part, it is HEART & Lungs, not just lungs. This is one of the few diseases THAT CAN'T BE CURED. That's right, it can't be cured. Many people don't know this. Once you've got it, it's downhill from there and don't think because you jog and exercise that it can't get you. It's just a matter of time.

I'm not going to argue any points about how you can get COPD without smoking or anything else. After all, it is up to each person to work out their own salvation. I'm not telling anyone what to do with their lives. I'm just trying to give you the benefit of knowing about a mistake or two in my own life.

I often imagine what life would be like without this disease. I often wonder if I would be able to maintain my stamina in long, grueling tournaments if I hadn't started smoking. I often wonder if I could have maintained my competitiveness in pool into my 70's or 80's if I hadn't smoked.

There are a number of people in this forum who have heart and lung related diseases due to smoking. Most don't whine and complain about it because it was their own doing or perhaps they just have a difference of opinion. It doesn't matter. This is just my opinion and perspective.

Now go ahead and "Burn One!" Just stay the F away from me.

Played 12 hours today in the smoke..........

i had to do this to try and get ready for this tourny.

I know the smoke is going to be tough so i need to get out of there right after my match. If i stay in there I'm fried for sure.

One of the guys that goes there all the time and smokes says when there is a tournament even he gets sick because it's so bad.

the good news is that if i do get knocked out early I will just get started on the lessons earlier.

i set up 3 tonight. I'll start these on monday. I'm only going to fill up 3 days but I might have to use thursday also.

It's almost 6:00AM. and if I get to sleep now I can make it to the calcutta tonight.

Even won some money tonight. 100 or so. Just trying to get in stroke a little bit.

I'm glad I have the z shaft. From not playing much I found that i move the ball around a little easier with the z. i put new tips on the 314-2's that I have and they just grab the ball too much.

Looks like the Z is going to have to get r done.

Good Night..........

Good Night..........

The good news is this cold I got is just about over. woke up in a bucket of sweat.

I played my heart out last night trying to get ready for this after not playing for almost a week from being sick. It worked. I started firing in the balls like I can. Shoulder and ribs are pretty sore but that's OK. I can handle pretty sore.

One thing with these tournaments is you have to want to win. All night last night in my dreams I was winning. I could see myself winning. this is why I've been winning tournaments again is because I want to win. It's all part of having that winning attitude.

For this one I know the odds are stacked against me but if I can get down there tonight and play in a mini, get under a little fire like a hill hill match and still keep my focus i'll be just fine. The other guys going to have to look out.

Now many players out there, if they voice this opinion to others they would all say, what a cocky jerk or whatever, but this is really how you need to feel if your going to win. The other guy doesn't really know what he's in for and you really have to believe it.

On the other hand you can say this to yourself all you want about win, win, win but if you havn't put in the road work like a prize fighter you won't have the firepower needed to get the job done. Do what you need to do to get prepared and then you can let your mind do the mental magic that it is so capable of doing.

Someone has to win. remember it might as well be you. Or me...........

I'm going down there to get a piece of the great calcutta I've heard so much about. I know there's alot of money floating around down there already.

One nice thing about these diamonds with the tight pockets. They look bigger but play tight. Nobody is going to get lucky and beat you. You make your own luck. And you need to play smart.

Plus you better not miss.

Ray Hansen talked to me about miking up during one of my matches so I can go through my thoughts outloud as I'm playing. I kidded around with him like this.

Now I will use Perfect Aim for this shot. And now perfect Aim for this one etc. I got a big chuckle from him.

I told him we could do it sort of like a gaff. Joke. But that wouldn't be to cool on the Big Truck show but it would have been funny. Sure would have gotten the viewers talking.

Anyway. Smoke or no smoke I'm going to go down there and give everything I got on every shot and let the chips fall where they may.

And no matter who I'm playing don't assume I'm the underdog. Because this dog wants to win..................:yeah::dance:

nothing worse than false modesty

The good news is this cold I got is just about over. woke up in a bucket of sweat.

I played my heart out last night trying to get ready for this after not playing for almost a week from being sick. It worked. I started firing in the balls like I can. Shoulder and ribs are pretty sore but that's OK. I can handle pretty sore.

One thing with these tournaments is you have to want to win. All night last night in my dreams I was winning. I could see myself winning. this is why I've been winning tournaments again is because I want to win. It's all part of having that winning attitude.

Gene recognizes a great truth, better to be considered egotistical than to lie to yourself and others. Your unconscious is extremely powerful but not very smart, or to put it better not very sophisticated. When it hears you say over and over that you are just here to donate or just here to go two and out your subconscious believes that. You may be thinking something entirely different but there is great power in the spoken word for good or evil.

If I am there to win if I can I don't want to say anything to contradict that, I don't even want to hang around other people that are saying things like that. You can fill yourself and the area around you with positive energy or negative energy. The choice is yours. Generate the negative energy yourself or absorb it from others and you are toast before the event starts.

Stay positive and give yourself the best chance to win. Go negative and put a chain attached to a fifty pound ball around your ankle. The first step to being a winner is almost always knowing you are a winner even if you aren't winning at the moment.

Get'em Gene! Don't spend so much time in the smoke that your race is run before the main event starts though.

Thanks Hu on your knowledgeable input..........

It's obvious that you have been there before. Thanks my friend on your words of wisdom here.

I went down to the Rack to see if I could get some action. Usually I just get the top guys after me. i havn't played for about a week except last night and just need to get comfortable playing for something. I need to get that feeling that I really need to make that shot. How , by gambling a little. Doesn't matter how much. Just something to win or lose.

So I walk up to a table and ask the young guy, their all young to me, but he is about 30 I'd say, if he'd want to hit some around together. He said no. I told him that we didn't really have to gamble. I just wanted to play.
He told me again he just was trying to work on his game.

As I turned away he asked me if I'd want to play some cheap sets. I said sure. Now I wait to find out what cheap is to him. It might be $200.

He comes up with $50.

His name is James from Tampa Florida. Plays pretty sporty and has a nice smooth stroke. real nice guy.

I asked Big Truck how the kid plays about halfway through the set and he says , this guy can play.

I win the first set 7-5 after being down 4-3. The second one 7-5. And the 3rd one 7-0.

Mission accomplished. I got my game on. Now I just need to keep that mode tomorrow when I play my first match at 11:30 AM.

The air conditioning is out at the Rack so it's really hot in there. Combine that with the smoke and it's pretty tough.

This tournament is going to be won with mind over matter for sure.

Got some quality practice, made a little money and had some fun commentating with Big Truck for a few minutes.

I even had one guy call me a snake oil salesman when Ray brought up Perfect Aim and I started talking about the number of lessons we're doing in Memphis already.

I can't believe anyone is even saying that anymore.

I thought snakeoil salesman sell something that doesn't work.

This guy has to get with it because if he hasn't heard yet perfect Aim works for everyone. And I keep trying to prove it everyday, over and over and over again.

Maybe he should call me for the Free Phone lesson. And then maybe not.

Got to get some sleep and try to take this thing off.

Thanks again hu............
