On The Road Again with Perfect Aim....

tough drive to Mobile...........

One of the hardest things to do if your diabetic is to drive long distances. The problem is you are sitting in one spot too long.

The other part is not enough sleep.

Both happened to me in the last few days.

The smoke is just a bonus.

Friday morning when I got out of the room I only got about 6 hours sleep. Drove 9 hours to Mobile, Al. Couldn't stop much because time was too short. Needed to get there and get some rest. Touny starts the next day.

Sometimes when we punish our body like this our body fights back.

Mine just kind of says sleep. At this point I play real bad. Can't beat anyone.

Went to bed at 2:00AM. Woke up many times during the night. Couldn't breath. Nose plugged from irritation from the smoke. I also breath with a machine when I sleep. Sleep apnea. Need to breath through my nose.

Woke up tired as could be at 1:00 PM.

Don't know how I'll play but it don't feel good. Yesterday all day long it just wasn't quite there all day. Even when trying to warm up.

If it's good today I'm going to have fun. was hitting them real good 2 days ago but this old diabetic body needs to cooperate.

Plus I"m spotting most of them a few years. Oh well.

My goal today is to get back to Scott.

The other guys are in the way. Too bad for them..

They better be ready,,,,,,,,,,,,,,

Sunday started out great with a seven pack...

I got 11 hours of sleep and felt great Sunday morning. There are only 16 players left.

Joey A and myself are 2 of them.

Then they call my first match against John McClellan. Joey Barnes buddy.

I break and run 7. I;m running out the 8th rack and I freakishly scratch in the side on one of those rolls that look like it is impossible to scratch.

John breaks the next rack not making a ball and I run out and break and run out.

I'm pretty happy about how I'm playing and feeling.

Then I get called for my next match. I play Jesse B a fairly good player but I'm the favorite I think. Then I look at the table we are assigned to. It's the same table that this kind of bigger girl is parked at in one of the 2 chairs for our table. Her boyfriend is playing in the tourny 2 tables over and by being in our way she can see her boyfriend play.

Her blond haired girlfriend is there also with her florescent green coat on. Her big ugly purse is hanging on the arm of the other chair that me and Jesse are taking turns sitting in. She's in and out of that purse about every 5 minutes for something.

Joey A is on the table between her boyfriends match table.

At one point Joey A is shooting a crucial shot tied 7-7. He's down in the shot and this rude gal stands up waving her arms to get her boyfriends attention. Joey jumps up from his shot because it looks like she is going to jump right on his table.

This is the main reason Joey lost his match to Tony Musgeau. The guy that took 2nd.

I started out 5 to 1 ahead of Jesse and then this gal went to work. I got down twice to shoot a fairly easy combo. Had to get up from the shot distracted by her. Got down the third time and missed the 9 ball with the object ball.

Jesse wins that game and runs 3 to tie up the score.

Then I'm still in fairly good shape and her boyfriend for some reason is standing next to my table. He's talking to someone while he is fiddling with his case. I wait about 1 minute until he leaves. When he realizes he's in the way of a match he appoligizes and moves.

I get down to shoot the shot again ad he cuts right in front of my table to get over to his girlfrieid. I get up again in disbelief. Get back down and miss the shot.

Now Jesse is up 8-7. He breaks dry and and I run out. Now it's hill-hill'

I break and we battle it out on the last game.

I lose.

I can't believe they let this gal sit there. She was such a nuicance to everyone.

I asked the guy running the chart about it. He didn't seem to think he would do anything to move her. And she was one rude person. The day before when I asked her to move she really got in my face about her rights as a customer. She is a piece of work.

Anyway, I can honestly say that she took me out of my game. Not making excuses for losing but this is one type of distraction that nobody needs to have.

After I was out of the tourny i was swamped with Perfect Aim lessons. I did about 5 quick lessons and sold about 5 DVDs.

When I got to the room I was really beat and was in that smoke way too long.

Any tourny I'm at from now on I am clearing the deck. If I can't get rid of the people in the way I will unscrew and walk out.

10 hour drive, motel expence, time, entry fee, calcutta.

The least you should be asking for is a little bit of space where you sit.

And who knows? If I would have gotten rid of that gal Joey A might of won his match and maybe the tourny. He was shooting pretty good also.

In Tallahasee now...............

Made the trip from Mobile to Tallahasee. Stopped in Pesacola on the way and played some with nine ball with Brandon and gave him a pretty much free Perfect Aim lesson.

I played him in Mobile in the tourny and he is a pretty good guy.

Later on that night I played a guy some 200 sets. Lost both hill hill. Played bad. Tired and the place just got nasty with the smoke. No ventilation at all. I actually got sick. I went to subway afterwaeds and realized I was starting to feel better with the fresh air.

If I'm in that same situation I will take the time to go outside and get some fresh air. About the same as the smokers do in the no smoking states. They take a smoke break.

Also got a ticket for an illegal u turn. I went back through the intersection 5 times and couldn't find the no u turn sign. I went back over to the officer that gave it to me and told him I couldn't find this invisible sign. He said it's there.

I found it. Way up high on the other side of the intersection right next to the red turn arrow. Impossible to see with the human eye at night. I went back to the officer sitting right there and told him to look for himself. He said he would.

Right there he had to leave, there was a shooring in downtown Tallahasee.
I'm going to call an officer today ad have them come look. They should just tear up the $173.00 ticket. What a joke. He's sitting right next to the intersection and I was looking right at him when I made the turn because it was not visible at all at night.

Then it's of to the poolhall and get some much needed practice. Then to walmart and then the fitness center.

Got to go. Alot to get done. Maybe even a lesson.

Clearing the decks-I like it.Don't walk out of a tourney though Geno.If you cannot clear em out with evil glares and unkind words just grind thru it the best you can.

A teammate of mine had a drunk/stoned guy show up to watch us play league Monday night and it put me on tilt LOL. Tough to fade sometimes when the peeps know nothing about pool.

Joey A has the answer......

He said just sit there until the problem in removed once you've made your problem known to the tournament director.

If they don't fix the problem let them forfeit you.

When you travel 1000 miles to play in a tourny you shouldn't have to put up with this.

Rest for 2 days............

I've had alot of trouble sleeping more than 3 or 4 hours at a time and then can not get back to sleep.

I might need to get some ambiem. My chest hurts and I wake up.

If I can sleep tonight I will play in the tourny. If not I think I will go.

No sleep i can't play at all. Kind of embarassing.

If I don't play I'll still concentrate on giving lessons. I have a few set up but If I don't play I'll do alot more. I can still teach feeling like crap. That's a good thing.

looks like a great tournament. Wish I was ready............

This smoke is real bad for anyones health. I hope I don't cause any big health problems for my stint in the smoking states.

It sure doesn't feel very good.

Great tourny here at Tallahassee.

Alot of the big dogs are fighting for their life in the losers bracket.

I don't know who I even play tomorrow but there is only 4 left on the win side and I'm one of them.

I think Cliff J is a possible opponent for me at noon but he has to win first.

Alot of good players here. the pockets are big but they play small the way they are cut. If you shoot hard and touch the rail on the way down the ball won't go in. it just rattles.

The good news is I can get plenty of sleep.

I was sick all day long from the smoke but I'm getting used to playing feeling sick. I guess that's what it takes.

I think this is a big factor in these tournys where they are aloud to smoke.

Survival of the fittest. Who can deal with it the best.

Kind of funny.

For some reason I didn't notice the bottom half of the bracket. probably because I'm not in it.

It will be down to the final 16 tomorrow.

My brother Tom and his wife drove over from their vacation in Miami. They were going to stay the night and watch the tourny tomorrow. They live in Tupelo, Mississippi.
She wouldn't stay . They went looking for me at the poolhall and she doesn't want to deal with the smoke.

Good luck Geno. Play the table and you can overcome them all. That smoke thing sucks, but it is what it is. To play the game you love you just have to deal with it.

Yhe secret to playing in the smoke is getting used to it. It makes you not feel so good but I'm getting used to feeling that way all the time.

Woke up and couldn't sleep last night. had a burning in my throat and chest. Had some old cough drops and that seemed to help. Go figure.

I feel pretty good this morning.

Have to see what happens. Alot of good players down here.

Zengales Sports Bar is about as nice of place there is to play pool. There are 2 seperate sides with the raised bar in the middle.

The ideal place to play pool..........

Let's see if I can make some noise today..

Thank you for the reports. Can you tell us of any players that you are impressed with the most?

Thanks,

Frederick, MD

Gene,
I love reading about your travels on the road. Sounds like an interesting way to live life. Do you have any plans to travel to Maryland? I'm in the Frederick, MD area. I think my game could really benefit from your training. I've never felt confident about my aiming "technique" and I'm always looking for ways to accelerate my learning.

Cheers,
Skippy

I wish I could make it up there...........

Hi there Skippy,
I'm going to the Texas open and have to be there on the 30th.

The next best thing would be get the Perfect Aim video and call me for the Perfect Aim phone lesson.

I did over 300 of these over the past year with great success. It's not the same as me being there but it works extremely well.

Out of the 300 I had 300 very improved pool players. This works for everyone once you learn how it works.

Cutting your misses in half is an understatement.

Thanks geno.......

I learned something from this tournament.......

I relearned something that I had forgotten over the years.

How to win and overcome certain things.

You just have to dig down with all the energy you have in your body. When I look back on certain shots in my match with Jesse Engle especially 6-6 and I'm shooting the 9 ball with the cue ball buried in the side, Did I put every once of effort into it. NO. Could I have done the shot different to make it easier to make. Yes.

At that moment I had to do everything humanly possible to make that ball and I didn't. This could have been the difference in the match. jesse's game had deteriated. it was just about who wanted to make the balls or the safes bad enough.

This is what I will take to my next tourny.

I will be gambling alot in the near future for the opportunity to practice giving it all on every shot. Not huge but 100 200 or 300 sets.

Giving it all in the basement or league or hitting them around with the guys doesn't count. I need to have a reason to make it happen. Matching up with someone is the best way to get it done other than when your in a tournament.

For most of the day I was there. To many at this tourny I looked unstoppable. But as fatigue set in I coward down a little and didn't have that eye of the tiger that we all want to find and keep.

I found it again, now I just need to harness it so I can us it when I need it. Kind of like the bell goes off in a prize fight. Ding. Into battle mode.

We have to remember all the time. i didn't just come here to play, i came here to win.

Bottom Line......One man, a van and the road............

Pretty cool lesson today.......

I gave a lesson today that was real rewarding.

One of the owners of Zegales and his wife did the Perfect Aim lesson.

Sandy was left eye dominant. One of the one eyed wonders that shoots with only oe eye.

His wife jessie was more conventional. She has been trying to play for about a year but wasn't having much luck. there was a reason for it.

She was trying to shoot using her right eye as the dominant eye and fooled me into thinking she was right eye dominant for about a half hour. I've learned now that when I'm not seeing an improvement in the aim right away that I need to do some more testing to see if the other eye is dominant.

Sure enough. I got her lining up right and POW! in the shots were going. Her husband Sandy made the comment that she already made more shots today than she had made all year. Now I know why she was so surprised when she made the first shot once she was using the left eye.

This is what makes this traveling around playing and teaching so rewarding.

I needed to eat a little during the lesson and she was hard at it measuring and shooting in shots steady. She couldn't get enough, fast enough.

We've created another addicted pool player.

But the coolest part of the story here is she will give sandy a run for his money in the real near future.

Now they can enjoy this wonderful game together. Not only put a smile on Jessies but Sandy had even a bigger smile. And a little look of disbelief.

What a turnaround Jessie. That a girl.................

It don't get any better than this............

Coming this way

On my way to Texas i a couple of days........

Gene, Ilive in Thibodaux, La. 45 minutes west of New Orleans, any chance you will be coming this way ?

I'm heading to Texas to do a very professional remake of Perfect Aim and add all the new info I now have in the personal Perfect Aim lesson.

Give me a call and maybe we can hook up.

I don't know how much time I will have from here to Texas.

Gene,
You clearly define what I so dearly love in competition. Thank you for being an inspiration to me and others.

I love the fact that even when you come up short in an event, you make every effort to determine exatly what caused those shortcomings and then make efforts to correct them.

If someone put aside their desire to learn Perfect Aim, you would still have ample things to teach anyone. Keep that man and that van in good shape for the road.

We want to hear more about your adventures!

One man...one van...and the road.
I like the road stories, Machino.
And you're living a life that many envy.

You used to say you wouldn't patronize rooms that didn't do WIFI....
....maybe it's time to do the same to smoking rooms.

Hi there and I appreciate your comments,

The road is not for everyone. It can be mean, it can be nice or it can be inbetween. It's what you make of it.

But the best way to survive is to keep yourself. By that I mean you need to keep doing all the things you would do to take care of yourself if you are home.

It's easy on the road to not get enough sleep or eat right. Discipline is a huge part of it. There is nobody to even tell you when to go to bed.

I'm the only road player that I know and most of the time I'm giving lessons but I sure get alot of offers to play. The nice thing is that players just look at this gray hair and this 59 year old body and just don't think I can get there.

I have someone right now just begging me to play 500 sets and he can't win. I can't do it right now. I have a lesson at 8:00 toight and one at 12:00 tomorrow. Then one at 4:00 and then one at 7:00 and then I'm off to Panama City to do 3 lessons. Louisiana to do 3 or 4.

Then it's to Texas to redo the Perfect Aim video and try to get ready for the Texas open against a whole bunch of champions. I don't know when I'm going to practice.

It's a good thing I know this little secret on how to aim.

If I get a chance to hit a few balls I might even win one of these things.

Got to go.

Lesson at 8:00.

One man, a van and the road............
