One final effort

If Grady thinks he has so much support in the pool community, why did he choose to use Viking/Mike Janis to hold an event in his new room? If Grady is so great at putting on tournaments himself, why didn't he do it himself?

watchez,
Probably because like he said earlier, with all the duties and responsibilities that went with getting his new room opened, he just didn't have the time or energy left to get anything of substance put together on that short of notice.

And tell the truth, if you had a chance to play a couple of hours of one pocket alone with "The Professor", would you do it? Would you enjoy asking him questions and learning things about the game and its champions?

He's really not the worst guy on earth. :)

And Grady, here is a true story for you.

Tom Watson, arguably the best golfer between the era of Jack Nicklaus & Tiger Woods (and a littel bit more famous than Grady Matthews), had it in his mind that he and a few friends were going to play Augusta National, home of the Masters on an 'off' weekend. He calls up Augusta, introduces himself as Tom Watson & asks when he and his friends can get out on the course that Saturday. Augusta tells him, sorry you are not allowed to play here. Watson states, you don't understand-I am Tom Watson, winner of the Masters in 1977 and 1981 and simply want to play your course this weekend. Again, Augusta tells him, sorry we don't care who you are-you are not going to be playing on our golf course. Period, end of story.

Wow. That shines another light on entitlements, doesn't it?
Was he ticked off? Something had to have happened after that for this story to still be getting the rounds.
I wouldn't have guessed though that that happens in golf.

Off topic, but how in the hell do you spell Grady's last name?

If you look at his "official" website and it's "Mathews". But it seems like half his books and videos have it spelled "Matthews" with 2 t's. I'd be pissed if half the books and papers I wrote had my name spelled wrong.

Reminds me of a story my brother in law told me about Tom Cruise. He was working on Mission Impossible (Audie is a Dolly Grip) in Yugoslavia I believe (it was an iron curtain country). Nicole was in Europe working on Peacemaker. It was Cruise's birthday coming up and he decided to send his private jet to fly Nicole in to the miliary base they were "shooting" at.

He sent word to the commander of the base that his jet would be coming in the next day with Nicole on board. The CO sent word back to Cruise that his plane could not land at their base. Cruise responded that he was TOM CRUISE and HIS plane would be landing there tomorrow. The CO sent word back that if HIS plane tried to land at their base, it would be shot down!

End of story.

One of the perks of winning the Masters is lifetime playing privileges at Augusta National. So must be more to this than reported.

Grady don't listen to the peckerwoods on here some of us understand where your coming from very well and would sorely miss you very entertaining stories and great information from present and past. I'll be at your tournament and was at your last Columbia tournament.

I believe the lifetime playing privlege only applies to the actual tournament itself, not the golf course at your leisure.

One of the most treasured perks of winning the Masters has always been the lifetime invitation to play in the tournament, and the fossilized past champs have long been a beloved part of the Masters firmament, even as they struggle to break 90. In May 2001, Johnson ordered a bluntly worded letter to be sent to a handful of past champions, strongly encouraging them to hang up their spikes so as to spare the Masters their ragged play. The insult to these proud men was later codified, as the Masters set an age limit of sixty-five for its participants.

The lucky fellow who wins this week's 32nd annual Masters tournament at Georgia's dogwood-dotted Augusta National Golf Club will receive a check for $20,000, a silver plaque, a gold medal, a gold locket containing a picture of Bobby Jones, and a green blazer. He will also get a bonus that all the money in the world cannot buy: lifetime playing privileges at Augusta National, the most exclusive and autocratic golf club in the U.S.

1968--40 years ago, I guess the perks are still the same. ??? Seems like though, for example the changing of the lifetime exemption, things can change at Augusta.

You are correct.:) Tom won in 1977. I don't know if it has changed since 1968.

Enough Said... imo

If you go that is your decision. Only you can decide your fate. But remember only you have to live with you. I dont. So please dont threaten us who do appreciate good info and tales of pool. There will always be someone to provide us with that. Maybe a rest for you a while would be good. Concentrate on building your room. Talk with only those who are in total agreement with you. Certainly this kind of harrasment doesnt befit someone of your stature. Many of us dont deserve you and your wealth of experience. Many of us cant see the contradictions and conflicts of your life. Someday maybe we will understand maybe. But until then may God go with you.
