I think this is great. Is there a list like this for 9 ball. which is more wieght, the 6 ball or the 7-8

If you didn't know which ball handicap was worth more, and you are being offered a ton of weight at 8-4 or 9-5, then you will lose this match.

what he's trying to say is that if you don't know something like that when it comes to one pocket then you most likely don't know how to play the game very well. Your could be in a trap and don't even know it.
It's like flipping a coin - it can come up heads five times in a row sometimes, but over the long run it will come up half heads and half tails. In a game of one pocket anybody can run a few balls sometimes, but over the longer run the better player will win. A longer game makes it less likely that the better player will lose because the lesser player got lucky.

8/4 is a bigger spot.
I don't know tho , IMO the short count is a plus for the stronger player too.
I think you'd be better with a full count. If he's offering those 2 , he probably knows what he's doing , I'd counter with 11/5 and see what he says.

I'm not sure how my knowledge of one pocket and my knowledge of gambling are related? I'm Not trying to be offense and I respect your answers but I do fail to see how the two are related.
One Pocket Handicapping is unlike any other kind of gambling.
The knowledge of the game and moves are HUGE compared to a person that can just shoot.
A good 1 pocket player can make your 8-4 match look closer than it really is and can make you feel like the gamble is worth it. The higher number doesn't really matter too much to you, but it really comes down to how many mistakes they would have to make for you to get to the 4 before they reach their number.
I know some guys that can offer up 12 - 2 or worse. Heck I would probably have to get 20 - 2 against players like Scott Frost just by the large gap of knowledge in the game.
As has already been mentioned, 8-4 is more favorable to the weaker player than 9-5. It comes down to comparing ratios. At 8-4, your opponent has to make twice the number of balls to win than you do (2 to 1 ratio). At 9-5, your opponent only needs to make 1.8 times the number of balls that you need (1.8 to 1 ratio).

Yes, this is what I mean. Sorry if I came off harsh. But you were asking a very basic one pocket question. Not knowing the answer or rationale behind that question probably means you are not an experienced one hole player.
I'm an intermediate one hole player. I've learned over the years that I just can't get there against a top player, no matter what the weight is. The difference in skill and knowledge is just too great.

I kind of like having two extra money balls, so I'd take the 7 & 8. A lot of balls you can make on the break or combinations etc.
I was playing good a few years ago when I had my own poolroom. Played a lot of good players even and gave up weight to others. Then T-Rex dropped in on me and after some negotiating offered me 8-4 at One Hole for $300 a game. I LOVED IT! For a while. :sorry:
