one of my many road hustles

There have been times where Chris has made more in a month than any of your english professors have made in a year.

So....

Who's the idiot?

The time he played Bubba 8 ahead 9-ball for $50k (giving up the nuts), Chris won in 45 minutes. He was getting staked and if you figure his cut and the time it took, it's like making $33k/hr.... The wife and I were on our way to dinner when Chris called before they started to tell me what they were doing. He called as we were getting back in the car to say it was over. No one, I repeat, no one, is better at giving up the nuts and out running it for big money than my man Bart! His win % is freakin crazy!

There were more than a few times he and Danny made 50+ in a week, and Chris was so good at staying under the radar not many people knew about it...

BTW, about the Red Robin spot. I have talked to 8-10 people that were thru there before and after we were there. The most anyone won was 1200, we made 9... That is how Chris rolls...

My post was directed to " JB Cases" not Chris.

Chris, of all the people you have played, when and where did you play your best?

I was in the crowd when you played David G last year in Dallas and you played near flawless. It was darn near perfect except for that one niscue.

I had bet $500 with your buddy from Ohio and when it was over so quickly he came straight over and just looked at me. I told him I was only joking about the bet and his eyes got bigger than coffee cups. Of course I payed him and he looked very relieved.

You beat on Daveid so badly, it took him a while to get over it.
i have played a few sets like that.
thats why i dont like to play good players 9 ball it can go like that.

Not only hard to read but hard to believe. Where do you find these places that people are willing and anxious to lose this amount of money? I love to hear these stories. Keep'em coming please.

Thanks

Kevin

I wouldn't mind hearing a story or two where the hustler got hustled (if it has ever happened to Chris).

I'm thinking that there had to be a time where Chris was setting up a "sucker"...only to find out that on that particular day Chris just couldn't beat him -- either straight-up or giving the agreed upon spot -- and they made a big score off of Chris...

(I don't mean playing a known player...but someone unknown to Chris)
sure everyone gets beat, but when i have lost money its to good players like steve moore.

Same trip we were at Bogey's in Houston. Amar Kang was getting staked by some Mexicans. Amar, Hugo and their boys show up and our road partner (who had spent a few months in Houston before this) says he played the one Mexican and he couldn't play dead. Well this guy woofs at Chris to play some one pocket so we jump on it (Chris will remember what the bet was and exactly how it went down). They start playing and Chris is thinking it's soft action and is on the stall big time. Well late in the first game we both realize this guy has a monster stroke and can freaking flat dab it! I mean this guy plays freaking good!!! Chris had problems coming off a dead stall to playing jam up and the other guy got the cash. His name? Tony Chohan (Amar's cousin). Our guy "remembered" who Tony was about the same time Chris and I seen we were in a bad spot and he said "Oh yeah, this isn't the guy I thought he was, this is Amar's cousin and he plays good.... Thanks Baby Keith......

Okay, fair enough. I just thought that there was maybe a time where you got beat by a player unknown to you....when you thought you were hustling them and they had the better of it. It certainly is possible that this has never happened...

correction made...

Thanks for clearing that up I made the appropriate changes. I did enjoy your story, it was even more fun re-writing it. Road stories are always appreciated and excellent to have on the forum.

Thanks

Des Moines

We have a decent Sunday night weekly tournament in Des Moines, IA with a calcutta. Most of the time it is just local players, but every so often there will be some champions that show up that might be in the area for other regional tournaments.

Well, on one of those particular weekends, Eric Hjorliefson (sp?) and Jason Klatt are there. And there are a couple of other different players there that I don't recognize. So the calcutta starts and Eric and Jason go as the blinds, and then Josh Johnson.

So they start selling the 4th blind and the guy picks Chris Bartrum. I had heard the name before and knew he was a champ, but didn't know his face. Well it turns out that Chris was there with Eric and Jason, but didn't sign up for the tournament, I'm assuming to avoid knocking himself. But the bidder in the calcutta didn't realize he wasn't in the tournament, but knew who he was...

By now the damage was done...
