One piece cue

I made one last night.

Heres the story. Quite some time ago I bought a cue on EBay with the initials PR on it. It was suggested in the ad that it might be a Paul Rubino.
I kind of doubted it but it seemed like a nice cue and I got it pretty cheap.

It was to be my experimental cue. The first thing I did was put a new wrap on it.

18 TPI pin, piloted. Huge void on the joint collar. Yesterday I installed a 3/8th x 10 pin and cut off the excess collar. The shafts I got with it were warped so bad that you could shoot around a corner with them.

One had matching ring work so I removed the insert and took off the ring work. Someone had given me a half decent shaft so I cut off the rings, installed the matching rings, plugged the hole and re tapped for the big pin.

The last thing I did before heading out for some pool was to pour a little thin CA in the hole and turn the shaft to spread it around.

I went to pour out the excess onto a paper towel on the bench and I poured it onto my right hand. I let it dry for what I thought was a long enuff time, screwed the shaft back on to see how it would fit.

I was playing around admiring my handy work and then went to unscrew the shaft.

Guess what, instant one piece cue. There was no way I was going to
crack this one. I used a heat gun to finally separate the cue, luckily without melting anything. The pin came out of the butt but was still firmly in the shaft. I heated this thing with my mini blow torch and there was no way this was coming out.

Finally, I took the shaft to the garage and cranked the pin in a big vice and was able to crack the bond.

CA is not the glue to be used to install a pin. OK, it still works tho.

Me not do that again. I get to wear the Cue Repairman dunce hat for a day.

Not the first

i am sure there are quite a few builders that have done the same thing, they just won't admit it. i have to confess i'm one of the club.
good luck with your pr cue

I can relate to that situation, people donot realize just how much holding power cyno can have until they accidentally glue something together.

I had some CA on my hand and didnt know it, grabbed my air hose and bingo ! insta bond ! Thank God for having debonder on hand !!! No pun intended.
