One Pocket/Banks HOF Dinner

I just wanted to say thanks to all the 1pkt.org and AZforum people who attended the HOF dinner, and express my sincere regrets to all who were unable to come. Maybe next year; try hard to get there, it's a really worthwhile experience. The food's good, the people have fun, and memories and emotions run rampant. When you see an old, grizzled road-dog like Sammy Jones break up in emotion over his pal, Vernon Eliot's election, it's an event you won't soon forget. Special thanks to Steve Booth and Greg Sullivan for thinking it up and putting it on.

I'd like to add that those of us who were there appreciate the chance to celebrate their accomplishments/achievements with the great players that attended. It's nice to see prior inductees like Efren and Nick Varner attend to celebrate with the new inductees, their families, and us fans. It was a cozy room full of great stories. This was the first time I've had the opportunity to attend the banquet and will do so in the future.

If you ever have the opportunity to chat with George Rood, do so. He's a great guy with some of the best stories you'll ever hear "straight from the horses mouth."

Freddie,
The HOF dinner was definitely the high point of my week.

All of the forum members who enjoy the stories from the road would do well to clear out their calendar, and attend next year's dinner. It was a great experience - many new stories about Strawberry, Cannonball, and Rags. I will definitely try to make it again next year.

Every now and then on one of these pool forums someone will joke about "when they played Alfredo de Oro", the great 19th century champion that played into the first quarter of the 20th century -- well, George really did play him :)

And he is still very sharp...

Every year we invite all previous inductees to attend, and there is a good turn out among them. We missed Ronnie Allen & Bugs this year, but I am quite certain they would have come if they could.

The last person living who played with the great Ralph Greenleaf. George says he was the best also.
