one pocket nine ball

The only one pocket nine I have ever heard of is the one I invented you can find the rules for it via the clickable link at the bottom of this page. My web site as a pdf file with all the rules.

i just red the rules for this game,it sounds very interresting, this mite b the future game?

Myself and fd_colorado have tried on several occasions to spark interest in this game to no avail. I would be happy if anyone would even try it. I have shown a dozen players how to play in the last couple of years and they are addicted to it now. I have never played a game that you had to match wits with your opponent like you do with this one. It is a lot more then a playing against the table. Strong defense is a must and if you don't bank good....you will;). Let me know if you have any questions.

yes i will, thank you very much!

hey cuebuddy, i was hoping you would reply. came across your web site the other day, and found your game very interesting. how do you break in this game. do you bust them open or just peck away, or does it matter if you are against a weaker player. i am going to play this game today with a veteran pool champion cigar tom vanover from baltimore. he still shoots real well, so any advantage for me would be appreciated. thanks cue buddy

I was hoping you would reply also:). Like Jay said earlier the break is huge, so use a closed break. I try to put the cue ball on one side of the pack and the object ball on the other. Practice this before your match, depending on the table this can be achieved with spin or speed and angle of your break. Tom is a great player and will use safety's and there killer in this game. You may want to get a spot, getting the breaks would be a good place to start. Do you ever play regular one pocket?

hey dave how are you. i will most certainly let you know. seems to be very interesting. did you check out cuebuddys web site.

You have a snowmobile, I might head west.

You would need snow for that, this is one of the driest years I have seen. Vail is supposed to open in about a week and we have no snow lol. Oh well things can change in a hurry at 8150'.

Just to be clear, we are talking about one pocket played with 9 balls and NOT backpocket 9ball, correct?

If so, the rules are exactly the same.
It's just a quicker version of the game.
Just as in full rack banks, you are going to 8, and in short rack banks you are going to 5. Same exact thing.

The break is key as you are almost guaranteed to make a ball if you do it right.
You have to break to 2 rail the cue to the bottom side rail then bottom rail and then UNDER the stack, hitting the back ball of the diamond in such a way that the ball just goes in the hole.

Superstar I just did a search for back pocket 9 and yes they are similar. I have never heard of this game before. I looked at the rules quickly and there are a few differences but they are close.

And yes it is a cross between regular one pocket and nine ball.

CueBuddy is talking about his special game (check his link in his signature line) -- I think several others are talking about different games. Jay, for example, seems to be talking about playing One Pocket with nine balls (Nine Ball One Pocket).

Who knows what game the opening poster is asking about...

I interviewed the late Willie Jopling a few years back and he talked about several variations of nine ball/one pocket:

Nine Ball One Pocket (just like One Pocket, but you only start with nine balls)
One Pocket Nine Ball (just like 9-ball except you have to make the nine in one of the front pockets like One Pocket)
Back Pocket Nine Ball (just like 9-ball but you have to make the nine in one of two back corner pockets)

And it sounds like you can add Einstein Nine to this list...

Of course for all of these versions, you designate which player has which pockets prior to the break.
