Greg Sullivan is talking about having One Pocket play/tournaments on his Diamond 7' bar tables, and so, I have to respond by saying....

....I love Greg Sullivan personally, and everything he's done for pool, but One Pocket on a 7' table is sacreligious....It would be like....

....Arena football instead of NFL football !....It's a pro golf tournament being played at a par 3 course !....It's a pro basketball game being played half court !....It's asking me to be in bed with only one woman at a time instead of three !...

Devils advocate

Perhaps a game should not be defined by the equipment it's played on. Providing of course the equipment meets all the requirements that allow you to play the game. In 1 pocket this would mean 6 pockets and the ability to spot balls.

Yes size would change the game, but then so do things like cloth speed and table condition. Good players should be able to adapt to different conditions, a smaller table while making some aspects of the game easier would present challenges not faced on a 9' table.

There comes a when "that's the way we've always done it" counts less as tradition and more of an unwillingness to adapt.

Times change, people change, games change. Roll with it.

Peace

Ghost, what's with all the sugar coating? That's not like you. Tell us how you really feel. Just to make an old schooler's blood like yours boil, imagine if they had said one pocket on 7' tables and allowing the use of "chump" cues? jk call me if you're going to play tonight.

I've gotta agree with ghost here; 1-hole on small tables is not a good idea. I've done it a few times, and while amusing, it doesn't really resemble 1-pocket. I think Greg is a great guy, and he does so much for our sport, but I'm not sure I can get behind him on this one.

It would be an eye-opener to try to leave your opponent on the end rail for a tester...and have him fire it in EVERY TIME.

No, No, and Double No!!!!

Of course I'm so old school I think they should go back to playing the game on 5x10's.

Greg believes that you can play one pocket on a 7 foot table if it has the right specifications. Use 4 1/2" pockets, Simonis 860, a very level playing surface, and only 11 balls.

Diamond is considering the possibility of a 2nd DCC, but to be played on 7' tables. It would have the same format as the regular DCC. All 3 games would be played: 9 Ball Bank, One Pocket, and 9 Ball. There would also be a Master of the Table competition. Then we could see who is the best all around player on a 7' table. At this point, this is only an idea. I think it would be very interesting to watch.

I'd be curious to see that, but I'd be more curious to see a 1p game with 21 balls on a 5x10. :D I have a feeling that both would get old quickly. :( Props to Greg for experimenting with something different though.

That's the only thing about it that would be good for me - I'd finally be able to make a long shot !

Yeah. Well watching Tiger Woods and the boys play on a Putt-putt course would be interesting to watch too but it wouldn't be golf!:D

That analogy is incorrect, I believe. This would be more like playing golf from the white tees (7' table) and Tiger Woods from the back tees (9' table.) Both players are playing the same golf course. The hole is the same diameter. The golf balls are the same. The clubs can be the same. The difference is the length of the course.

How about just substitute one pocket with 8 ball. One pocket on a barbox just doesn't make sense.

A 2nd DCC every year WOW and on tables where you dont have to be a champion to compete. I personaly don't care what games are being played. It would bring a whole new bunch of champions to the mix I hope it goes off. :D

I played 1-Hole on 4x8 Bar tables a few times and it was no fun at all ... The huge pockets take away the difficulty factor ...

However, I would be interested in playing 1-Hole on a 5x10 or 6x12 Snooker table with snooker balls ... It certainly would be challenging ...

As a teen, I used to play 14.1 on a 5x10 Snooker table with snooker-size numbered balls 1 thru 15 ...

I love to play one pocket on a bar table.
When I play I use 7 balls with the winner needing 4.

You rack either with 6 balls and the 7th ball behind the middle or (5th ball)

Or a 6 ball rack with the 7th ball froze to the middle diamond behind the rack.

Yobie, we finally agree on something! I could play myself 10 to 8 on a 5x10.
