One-Pocket Situation

buying some time

This looks like the best shot to me: just buying some time and wait for chances.

CueTable Help

If you can kick behind the 5 on the end short rail, thats an effective shot. If you can stop the cueball on the end rail, and you may kick the 5 into the stack moving some balls on your side. Also, I may take a 3 rail kick at the 5...taking a foul may cost you alot less than trying a touchy carom. JMO.

Southpaw

Im not crazy about breaking out the 4,1 and leaving a free bank on the 12 or 4. I do like a three rail here even if it ends in a intentional foul.

new to one pocket

I have just started playing one pocket so I shoot some shots that I think a real 1p player would never try but I like either kicking behind the 5 off the short rail sending the 5 up table. Second I like trying to kick off the short rail thinning the 5 into the long rail then of the long rail towards my pocket or the stack. Let me know what you think of my second option.

Thanks
Bora

Play almost full into the 1 and draw the CB against the top of the stack, moving the 4 over to your side and the 1 uptable:

The emphasis is obviously in the CB leave, the 4 ball in front of your pocket is just an added bonus. Your opponent will not like his options after this, unless he sees something I don't.

PS Wei, how do you imbed the new cuetable in your post?

Go for it!

Hey Southpaw,
If I were playing you, I'd bank the 12 off the side titty into my corner pocket and leave you lodged against the 1,4.

Roll in behind the 5 and take the scratch. Don't want other player to see any other ball or the opposite long rail.

Off the 4 is too big of a threat of a scratch. Draw off the 1 looks like it cuts the 4 into the 5 not across the table and will just delay the problem.

Touch, but you could also bank the 4 off the one and run the CB to the end rail near the top diamond. That would line up the 12 and 5. If the 4 placed well by your pocket the risk factor may be too high for him to try an offensive shot, especially if he isn't a shotmaker.

Hi Andrew:

Just highlight the url text and click on

wei button in your editing window. This saves people a lot of time; they won't need to use another graphic app, save a document and attach it to your post anymore...

For more info on how to show a layout in your AZ post, please check this thread: http://forums.azbilliards.com/showthread.php?t=64559

Here is another possibility (a variation from yours) for adventurous people. Check page 1 and then page 2. Maybe a little too wild

Is you crazy? You are talking about going to the headrail and lagging behind the 5? You may not play on my $! :D

Andrew;

The 4 is lined up at the 1 diamond if the balls are hit full/full. If you hit the 1 full from CB angle you almost assuradly cut the 4 to the left and hit the 5. Now that could be good or bad, but the 4 will not come across the table without hitting the 5. And in order to have your CB draw back to your left, you will even have to cut it more or use english that will throw the CB and cut it.

I looked at that shot also, and if the alignment was a little different, that would be my choice also.

Yes, I am talking about rolling in behind or up against the 5 from the footrail.

The 10 ball is squarely in the way of getting the CB behind the 5 off the footrail.

I don't really think the 4 ball is the important part of this shot; I think against the top of the stack is the only reasonably high percentage way not to sell out here.

Also, with how close the 1 and 4 are, you're not going to be cutting the 4 ball much no matter where you hit the 1, and even though you will cut it a little, there's going to be some throw that cancels out much of the cut angle. It may not get in front of your pocket, but I do think it hits the long rail above the 5. If it comes off the top of the 5, so much the better. Even if it sticks in front of the pocket, I think it's still a good shot, because of how tough the leave is.

I like your call, the carom shot is a wee bit touchy for this panda:D

I think if you hit the 1 first, you are pushing the 4 toward his hole (bad).
If you bank the 4 to just top side of your side pocket and draw the CB to just on top of the 7, you're sitting pretty good.

BTW drawing it off the 12..............Alex did a similar shot twice in the 2007 finals against Efren at DCC. He tried it a third time and scratched.
