one pocket tournament

Darren Appleton was in a one pocket match at Derby City -- race to 3 -- that took seven and a half hours. I think Darren was on the hill and winning after an hour or so when his opponent started to slow things down. Darren lost the match.

Talk about grinding out a win! o_O

We just had a 14 man 1-pkt tourney in Dallas at CK's. After waiting on players and calcutta, the tournament started at around 1:30 -

yesterday 4/8. Race to 3 winners, 2 on losers side. 6 (six) tables. Tournament had one real long match 1st round and one other fairly

long match later. Finished at 2:10AM. I has a pretty long day for me, from 7:40 AM till 3:20 PM. But was well worth it. We have a monthly tournament

there every month. Would have had 16 players if not Easter weekend. My matches went 3-0, 3-1, 3-1, 3-2 and 3-1. I killed about 1 - 2

hours waiting, but played 20 games of 1-pkt in less than 13 hrs including waiting time. 8 (eight) tables would speed it up just a little.

How much does the house usually skim (not just Hard Times, but generally)?

Some rooms charge greens fees but that's the only "skimming" I've seen on weekly tournaments. I don't think HT charges any but I'm not sure.

A pet peeve of mine is when tournaments announce X added money but then there is a $25 registration fee and a $20 greens fee.

Wow. Based on this I was way off on my guess for 28 players. Probably a single elimination race to 2 is the only way to finish in one day. Maybe with the Grady rules race to 3 could work.

If double elimination, probably only a race to 1 on both sides would work.

10-15 minutes a game, you must sell out a lot🤣 Is that how long you lasted against Tom🙈
Never said 10-15 a game. Meant to say the set lasts about 10-15 minutes. 😂... and for that smart rear end comment.... Go fly a plane.

The tournaments in Phoenix allow 2 hours and 30 minutes for a match. At 2:15 both players are warned they have 15 more minutes. At 2:25 each player gets 5 more innings and whomever is ahead wins . If they are still tied Next ball or foul wins or loses. It's plenty of time for a race to 3 although some players may have to change their strategy. Most of the field should'nt be held hostage by a few riskless turtles (feel free to use this slur on those that deserve it).

That is a reasonable time limit for a race to 3 in a tournament.

its absolutely stupid and unfair to have a time limit on a match. that way the person ahead stalls until it runs out.
or which ever person benefits by stalling depending on how the rule works.

since the t.d. is giving out spots he is active in the rules so can just warn the slow players once and after that, give them the appropriate penalty for playing too slow. slow play is obvious and a shot clock is not needed to determine it.

my suggestion is to have his opponent go to two balls less for each penalty.

why is that so hard for t.d. to figure out and enforce in tournaments. this way they all would end on time and all involved will have a good time and make it a success.

announce in advance and let them know the penalties and let them decide if they want to play or not.

That is very interesting.
Makes me wonder if a game with a full rack of 15 where you say next ball or foul wins or loses from the get go.
Then who wants to break first (if you making a ball on the break doesn't count.)

There was one tournament where a single person held up the entire bracket. Incredibly slow.
Not sure he was allowed to play in another one, I mean it's one person, the tournament can stand the loss.

If you have a time limit tournament do not ever invite Nick Varner. Five hour, race to 3 is the norm for Nick🤣

simple dont invite him. they arent selling tickets to the event and he isnt the draw for it.

slow play disrupts the tournament. treat it as in any business or event when someone disrupts.
