onyx tip review

I have one, it's just not on my cue yet. I think Tony (BENFICA) posted one about a month ago.

Did you get it installed yet Sam?

nah not yet. i ran into a little hickup. i just put on a brown WB tip on my gilbert jump break and it's like having a "good" triangle tip on it. i'm not changing that one until i HAVE to.

i've got an old moori on my gilbert shaft and a "good" talisman on my other gilbert shaft. i've got good tips on all my shafts so i've got nothing to try it out on

i've got a cue on the way though so i guess i'll throw it on that when it gets here

anyone have any input on these?

I like them a lot. The Tiger Onyx is built similar to a Sniper but I like it better. Like the Sniper, they are layered boar hide. Tiger uses a process to cure the leather over a period of a month, which turns the leather black.

It is a medium to medium firm tip that holds its shape well. They are pretty new but so far the advantage over a Sniper is that it doesn't become excessively hard with use. Sniper's seem to harden up a bit.

They are a great feeling premium tip that provides plenty of grip without being too firm or too soft. They are more costly than a Sniper but they should last a long time. I use an Everest now but will switch to the Onyx on the next go around. I used them on the new X Pro shafts Tiger is making.

Great info Chris. I'm on my 2nd sniper, having just having a new one installed a few weeks ago. My 1st lasted @ 1.5 years and I play quite a bit. But for whatever reasons, this 2nd tip has been miscueing too much. I just started working on it more regularly - with a nail file and scuffer and it seems to be helping. Maybe this tip had been sitting around too long? Would that make it harder? I don't like to work my tip too often 'cause it won't last long.

Anyway, this onyx sounds appealing to me. How much more than a sniper does it run?

The price for the Onyx is $21.95.
I just replaced a Kamui black medium by an ONYX LTD and really like it a lot. It feels like a true, true medium layered tip... Hard to explain...

I have just started playing with the new Tiger x-pro and it came with the Onyx tip. The feel is terrific. The combination of the two seems to be a complete package. I was using the sniper and didn't have any complains about it other that it did get harder with continued use. I love the feel of the Onyx but only time will tell if it continues to play consistent. So far it plays to my satisfaction.

alright everyone i found a shaft to throw this tip on. i'm going to agree with Tony (benfica) on this one. this tip is slightly better than the kamui black i had on. i'll update this in a few weeks to let everyone know if it ends up miscuing on me like the kamui did after it's broken in

I am glad to hear that. Sam is a good player, just lazy... Because he could probably win some tournaments if he put his heart into the game...
Let me know how do you like the tip...

Onyx tip

Any word on miscues? I am also curious about this tip. I use a kamui black ss currently, but find it a little bit too mushy. I have been thinking I need to get a harder tip.

Today I went to a friend of mine who has X-pro shaft and it has onyx tip installed on it, and let me tell you I was surprised to how it plays, it hits really good, I asked him about the tip and he said it's onyx, came with the shaft built-in, then I went on and installed it on my own shaft "Universal smart shaft" and let me tell, I play with moore for a long long time, whatever I try, i just go back to Moore, but this one is just perfect, I like it very much and i'm so pleased until now... try it you won't be disappointed.

I've been using the Onyx for a couple of weeks now.. Prior to the Onyx, I've used a Kamuii Black, Medium tip.
To be honest, they both feel pretty good to me so far and I can't say one is better or worse than the other in my opinion.

Both seem to have very similar playing characteristics to me.. I miscued a bit more than usual at first with the Onyx, but that has ceased the past few days. It might just be me??

I think the tip feel is very subjective to the player so one may love it and another may not, it just depends on what you like. Hope this helps.

Any more Onyx reviews since they have been around for a while longer?

How do they compare to Everest?

+ 1 from me

i want to know the difference too

since Everest & Onyx same Hardness in Durometer
so the feel of impact should the same right?

the difference maybe only how the cue tip hold the shape in times of use

and the spin they can generate?

any 1 can share?

thx in advance

i bought 2 from atlas. good prices there.
only installed 1 to try it . seems a litte hard to me, maybe close to a med tiger or wizard. deff harder than sniper and kam blk soft(great tip) . probably like a moori med (been awhile since i used moori's). and kinda expensive compared to kamui.

Funny you say that because I've been lead to believe from multiple sources that the ONYX is a "softer" Sniper. I've been using a Sniper for a while now but wanted something a little softer so I ordered a Kamui Black Soft and an ONYX. I think the Black Soft is up first.
