Open letter to Jimmy M.& Rude Dog

Hey Jimmy

I agree with the other posters here. Yes, you ARE going! So stop it, your killing me. AZ Mike is having some AZ shirts made up for you all. Melissa Herndon is gonna talk to some friends at BD. Maybe get an interview. I honestly think this was a wonderful idea and am grateful to be a part of it. Have a nice vacation, stay sharp, and get ready to go. I will see you there.

all of you guys already have a friend here from inside pool.

how about making the azb t-shirts available to everyone?

How about a free AZ shirt for all those who have donated to the sponcership for the open. Everyone else can purchase one for like $10 with part of the proceeds to go to future sponcerships of players from the BEST DAMN POOL FORUM on the net. Just an idea......... Johnny

Gotta tell ya, one of my favorite magazines. Keep up the good work. I bought my subscription at the Super Billiard Expo. Nice gals you got working there.

Good luck to both of you

I haven't been posting in many of the US Open threads because, for starters, I didn't want to seem like I was lobbying for the group to send me. I thought it was a great idea to send a player to the US Open, and I was flattered that some people threw my name out there as one of the potential players to send, but, as I said early on, there are other good players in this forum, all of whom would be good people to send to the open. From what it looks like, and from what I'm being told in PM, John (Rude Dog) and I are going to be headed to Virginia. I've hesitated to say thanks because, again, I didn't want to give the impression that I was lobbying for the group to pick me, nor did I want to assume anything about who you guys would select. So, at the risk of doing either of those things, I would like to say thank you to all who are participating in this. To the people who hoped to send someone else, I hope I can play well enough, and represent the group well enough, that you will be satisfied with your donation. To the people who did select me, I really am flattered - even perhaps a bit embarrased. I think it's pretty obvious where the best group of "pool fanatics" on the internet hang out, and I'm happy to be considered a part of that group :). I'm hoping to meet all of you who do go to Virginia, whether you participated in sending players to the US Open or not. And if, for some unforseen reason, this doesn't happen, or I have spoken to soon and I'm not one of the ones going, I still mean what I've said, and I'm sure there will be other tournaments where we'll have a chance to meet. I plan on going to the DCC in January, so if not the Open in September, maybe I'll meet some of you in Kentucky!

I won't be posting much for the next week because I'll be out of town on vacation, but I'll try to keep up with what's going on here. I'm taking my laptop, so I might pop in here and there. I wasn't going to take my cue, but now that this is all happening, I really don't want to take a week off from playing, so I'm taking my cue and plan on hitting balls while I'm gone!
I am so glad to see that this worked out. It was a really great idea and is proof that there are a lot of good guys here on AZ. I couldn't be happier to see who will be going to the open. Jimmy I used to play in tournaments with you at Tommy Baker's room in Fontana, and I remember seeing Rude Dog play at Hard Times in Bellfower when the place first opened. Both of you guys played in my dads old poolroom in Hesperia. I wish I could be there to see it for myself, I guess I will just have to look out for Jimmy's updates. Good luck to you both.

!
I too want to thank everyone on this great site for making this happen for Jimmy and I. I couldn't be going with a better guy to the Open because Jimmy and I have known each other for years and have been through a lot together, on and off the table. I don't have a lap-top to keep everyone updated on what's going on but I will be taking notes and when I get home I will share everything with you. Plenty of pics too. Oh yea, I ran 4 balls in a row today, things are looking up! LOL

Scott Smith and I have worked together a number of times to help cover tournaments. I am positive he will make a big deal about the players being sponsored by the site.

You'll have my laptop! :D

When this all first started, I thought it had a realistic chance for one player to go to the Open, I didn’t imagine two players. That’s even better and shows just how much the posters at AZB care about pool and this forum. With a little luck and some preparation I could see this as an annual occurrence.

Satman if you’re still out there I did vote for you. I’ve never met you or Jimmy or Rude Dog or any of the others for that matter (come to think about it, I don’t know ANY of the posters here), but feel that you’d be a good choice to represent AZB. You’ve stated some of your accomplishments and the desire to attend the US Open in previous threads before any of this transpired. You’ve also posted some good advice and contributed to the betterment of the forum, IMO. Later you revealed a less expensive travel alternative to the open. So, I was trying to be practical and that’s why I voted for you. Whatever happens though, I do hope you get a chance to go.

Although I didn’t vote for Jimmy M or Rude Dog, I am still very proud (AND I DO MEAN VERY PROUD) to have either one or both represent AZB. I know you’ll both play your hearts out. As a lurker that’s read Jimmy M’s postings for years now, I do feel he is an upstanding guy and accomplished player. My gut feeling is that he might be AZB’s best hope for success at the open. As for Rude Dog, I think he is a righteous dude and has KM’s blessing to boot, what more could be said other than “it could be a Cinderella story”. I fear the only thing that would absolutely suck, about both going, is if they draw each other first round.

A suggestion to whoever goes, make sure Mr. Purdy’s glass is never empty.

Thank you for your kind words Hustlefinger, it means a lot. And if Jimmy and I do happen to draw each the first round, don't worry, he'll still have a chance to come back on the losers side. :D Also, Purdy's glass won't be empty as long as I'm around and that goes for all azbilliard members that I meet while there. I hope to meet you all because w/o you, I wouldn't be there. Peace to everyone.

Thanks for the vote Hustlefinger. We have 2 good horses running in the Open and if at all possible, I'll be there cheering them on for a couple of days. No matter what happens in their matches, we'll all be proud to see them there. No pressure fella's, as long as you have fun and do your best, we're happy. Sam

Good words, Sam. Jimmy, Rude Dog, relax, have some fun, kick some ass, stay sharp, kick some more ass, stay in touch... :D

Well, I definitely agree that either one of these two players has the skills to do some major damage at the Open, if not win it; they both have beat World champions and not just once either!
As for character, they are both great guys, and I am glad to know them, personally.
I really hope I get to go again this year, for I want to witness them both terrorize the playing field. :D

Spider-man,
You realize you are almost 2 years too late to see this. The thread was posted in 2004, before the 2004 U.S. Open.

I'm not really sure if Jimmy and RD will be attending this year, but we can always hope. Of course RD just OWNS JM now, I think he was talking about feeling so sorry for JM that he might even miss one on purpose the next match, just so JM gets to pocket a ball or two.

Going to The Open...

Good luck to you Gents. Hope you guys shoot like Chevy in Caddyshack! Effortlessly, Seeing the path to the pocket as if drawn on the table...oh, and feel free to make that, NA NA NA NA sound if it works for ya! :D

Shoot The Lights Out!

Thank The LORD!!!! The last two years have been nothin but a bad dream. I woke up and people are preparing for the 2004 op.... ohhh... nevermind some people just cant read, back to '06 I guess.

So, how did they do? I know they can both play.
