Opinions- New cue line

Since this is the release date of a new line of cues from Predator called 'Poison', I thought it might be a good idea to inform my fellow tradesman of some of the things that might be coming your way. These are a lower-end line of cues that should appeal to the entry level and/or league players. Sooner or later, you just know that one of these will wind-up on your doorstep for repair and you should be advised as to what to expect. I'm speaking specifically of the 2 new joint systems by Uni-Loc, 'The Ghost' & 'The Venom'. Someone apparently felt the need for yet 2 more bastard threads to add to the ever-growing list of odd-ball joint systems. YIPPEE!!!!

I'll leave you to form your own opinions, I already have mine. You can get a preview of this new line by going to : www.poisonbilliards.com

I'd be interested in what you all think.

Got any info on the pin? I am interested in getting some drive sets done before I am pinched.

aren't those just uni-loc's with the pin cut down? the threads look the same...

These are all Uniloc made pins with the same Uniloc pitch. Just different looks.

KJ,

As for this new cue line all I can say is that I am not that impressed... Is it true that it was made by Predator or that it is a line of Predator? I have not heard about it...
...and the new joints 'invented' for these sticks are not so impressive either, I don't think that those would make much difference - except that (I guess) simple Uni-Loc shafts will not fit them - will they?

Please let me know KJ what your experiences where when you have hit with one! How nicely/shabbily are they built - wrap seams, fittings, ring work, etc...

Thank you,

Are they made in China?
I hear it's getting expensive in China, I'm waiting for them to move to Viet Nam. Might be China, only Chinese are insensitive enough to name their product after a cataclysmic weapon every terrorist in the world is trying to get their hands on.(sarin) I say boycott.

Ok, I won't work on them .
Besides the paint on them scares me.
We had that factory worker who posted here about the dangers of their finish before all this lead paint controversy came out.

I don't like the whole 'Poison' approach either, not in this day and age. If it's made in China, then the name may actually be true:eek: I don't think I'll sand one of those down:D

Thanx all for your input so far. Initiating a boycott is not what I had in mind because as you see, it's not up to us. These are going to get bought and get out in the world and it's going to fall on us to do work on them. The joint sets are going to need specific tooling and I don't have a clue how the Ghost pin is installed. Nothing to hold on to. Again, specific tooling. If I can get a jump on these, I'll get the specs and see what it takes to do some tooling for these. It's all about preparation.

I see no issue with the joint systems, just more production crap, nothing that isn't always happening. But the names of the cues I think is insulting. I find it offensive. Maybe i'm just being too sensative but, "anthrax"??? What are these people thinking? Bar leagues are full of veterans & active duty GI's who have & currently are fighting the terrorists who use such materials as weapons to kill thousands of innocent people. Why in God's name would they buy a cue named after it? Just my opinions. Seems like an idiotic marketing move. In 20 years or so, it might be socially accepted but right now when the war on terrorism is full steam, I think it's disgraceful.

i do think the naming and all is kinda cheesy, but i have to admit i like some of their very modern looking designs.

I agree. I am not very politically correct in general, but the names are in very poor taste. Terrible marketing idea and very insensitive.
