the impression i got from a few guys that do play in apa, i do not, is the tip has to be leather. i'm not sure if the phenolic ferrule is still ok or not. i just can't see the point in using one of those with a leather tip. maybe, it will be ok. i dunno. i normally use white diamonds from joe picone. but, those aren't leather either.TellsItLikeItIs said:Maybe in certain areas. The franchise owners can apply "local rules" if they choose, but I didn't see anything that says they're illegal in the 2006/2007 rule book.

yeah, i just put on the last one i had yesterday. but, i really do like the white diamonds over those. ever try one???ratcues said:Tiger makes a great jump/break tip.
exactly!!! or the idiot sitting on the table, or the idiot setting a drink on the table. just about the time i think i've seen it all, somebody else does something really stupid on a table. saw three guys pick the end of the table up at least a foot and a half off the floor and drop it because ball was stuck in ball return rails, chalk in there.TellsItLikeItIs said:They may be thinking of the IPT, rather than APA. Seems I read the IPT outlawed them casue they damage the cloth. Some room owners think the same I know. I don't agree. I'd be paying more attention to the nut doing masse shots, making my cloth look like a shotgun was taken to it. I break with an Ivorine III ferrule with a phenolic tip I made and am very satisfied with it. Been in place for over a year now and still going strong.

reason being, i was told recently these kind of ferrule/tips are illegal in apa
true???![]()
manwon said:Hey Guy, this tips are Legal for APA use. My teams have been going to APA and BCA Nationals for the last three years using these tip / Ferrule combinations with no problems.
In APA, however Jump shots are not Legal, so my players only use their Jump break cues for Breaking.
You can also purchase this same Rod material from Atlas Billiard Supply in 48 inch sections, and I think that they may also stock this material in Black now.
Long story short, I think this the best material for break cues, and it is all that I use myself.
Last, if you have people who do not like the tip being made of this material, just drill all the way through and thread a 1 inch section and place a leather tip on it, I use Water Buffalo tips for this and you still have the strength of the ferrule itself for extra power.

good idea, and sneaky. i like that. maybe it's just the local APA that has this rule about phenolic tips.Varney Cues said:Brent...
Just thread your brown tip with a 5/16-18 stem...and thread it into an unbreakable ferrule thats bored & tapped for the same, such as Ivorine 4. Then it draws no looks, questions, or concerns. Looks like this...
Great, we'll just switch to linen-based phenolic instead of canvas.cueguy said:I heard yesterday that Mike Gulyassy (sp?) has finally got his patent on one piece ferrule/tip combos and noone can install those anymore except for him (and possibly his distributors). Is there any validity to these rumors? Thanks, Larry Hale
