Opinions wanted on the choice of linen wrap

I am having a cue built by Dick Neighbors. Cocobolo points and butt sleeve. I have been thinking about the wrap (I like the feel of a linen wrap) and my first thought was to go with white with green specks like the old Cortland Irish Linen wrap since the cue is sort of an "old school" design. But the currently popular black with white specks might look better. I would appreciate your opinions on the best looking wrap for this cue.

I really liked your first idea of going with a white wrap with green specks. If you were going to take Craig Fales' advice I personally think white wrap with DOUBLE brown would look good.

Solid Black goes with everything.

But if it were me, I would most defiantly go with white with green specks, without hesitation.

The green specked would put this cue into the 'traditional' group - from my point of view - which is great, I love them.

The white with brown or double brown would match the cue perfectly so that would be a good choice too.

The only thing that is not quite fine to me, is the white/black which you can find on way too many cues these days... This cue is beautiful now and a nicely chosen wrap could add to it, however the white/black would make it a bit boring... But this is just my opinion, of course you have only right to decide :)

The white and green would definitely give it an old school look. That's my vote.

I'm for the white with green specks. I had an old Mali from the 1970's that I played with back then. It had a similar look to your new cue and it looked great with the green.

A white w/ brown specs would match the cue best I feel, but in the end its YOUR cue, and YOUR taste will prevail. Good luck in your decision, Jeff

Let the work do the talking

This cue has beautiful materials and harmony in its simple design. I like white with green spec...let nothing draw the eye from the work. That should stand out in contrast to a wrap. Enjoy the cue, it looks like a great success in the making.

Thanks!

I'm about to hang it up for the night, but I wanted to thank those of you who took the time to offer suggestions about the wrap for this cue. I also posted this question on the Ask the Cuemaker Forum and combining responses from both forums, it seems there is a pretty even split between white with green specks and white with brown or double brown specks.

I agree.

I have a cue that has the white wrap w/ the green specks and it is a beaut!

Bill, you're a cool guy for asking your forum family for input. I always enjoyed reading the opinions of our brethern.

Bill, one more thing to consider, the green specs will look Christmas-y with the reddish veneers...... ;)

I hadn't thought of that, but I think you are right. Might have to go with the white and brown or double brown specks.

sealed w/g or bores skin

Is this your player will it get dirty do your hands sweat? Green and white but seal it but personally I would put a ricky Phillippi black bores skin I also have a freshwater eel wrap thats sweet and the cue is brown mark

werd

I agree, this wood needs dressed up with anything, as long as it's black and smooth.
eel would be nice.
If you have to have linen, I like black again.

(maybe white with orange)

IMO a black wrap with a predominently brown cue wouldn't be my pick. Like the idea of double white with green spec to add a little color or white with brown spec. Love that swirly ruddy Cocobolo with almost any wrap.
