Looks like Goncalo Alves!? Fantastic condition assuming untouched.

I owned that cue. It's Pau Ferro.

It wasn't perfect when I sold it. Had two large dents, one in the forearm and one in the butt sleeve. I dropped it on my brick fireplace. BEFORE that, it was perfect and ORIGINAL.

If these are recent pictures, then it has been refinished. IE: Not original anymore. (Unless SW performed the work.) Even then, they're only original once.

In all regards this cue is a gem. Laser straight. Slim handle. Playable weight.

Didn't hit like my ebony Franklin, so I let it go.

Great clarification, I was admiring the ultra clear, 25-year old finish. Makes more sense now. The phenolic collars are super classic.

If the cue is "perfect" and still retains the original wrap (which it does) then someone other than SW repaired it. SW uses a chemical process to strip finish which makes retaining the original wrap impossible. That's straight from Laurie.

With a competent maker or repair guy, the dings and dents could easily be repaired and the cue re-polished. It doesn't have to require a full strip and refinish. If the minor repairs and re-shine shouldn't deem it unoriginal, IMO. Beautiful cue, BTW.

edit: I might add that since the phenolic is still deep red, it's doubtful the finish was stripped for a refinish. If the cue had been stripped and sanded, the phenolic would be shades lighter like new again.

Thank you for the input on it, the ding would ring in my ears every time I seen it. Bricks are tough on cues. The same day I got this Franklin, a friend grabbed it to check it out and whacked the buttsleeve about the same place on a wooden chair. I can still hear that in my head, lol.

Guys just to clarify, I own this cue and me and rod made a deal on his other sw and this was part of the trade sorta. David yes the ding you created was nasty and I feel sorry for the cue but shit happens. Anyways, I had scott erwin assess the cue. My instruction is to keep the original finish and linen intact and work on the ding to make it less obvious. If he cant do it, he can ship it back. But he did a good job. Ding is still there but only obvious on close inspection. It was buffed also so it's shiny. By the way cue won't be going anywhere and the rod knows that. I just owe him some cash and this was my pawn. Cue won't go anywhere so let's move on.

Thanks eric for the input. Hope all is well buddy.

You are a bigger man than me. You still call him friend.

Yes, accidents happen. But I would have a hard time talking to that friend for a while...at least not without feeling the urge to whack him up side the head.

It's just hard to stay in your happy place with a ding ringing in your ears..... :(
