Ortmann's Worst Shot Ever

was watching my tapes of the 2002 Hasseroder World Championships in Cardiff earlier today, and ran across this shot that Oliver Ortmann made. Romford Slim (Steve Davis) was commentating, and remarked that it was the worst shot Oliver had ever hit. the look on Ortmann's face afterwards was somewhere between funny and sad, but it sure looked familiar! Michaela Tabb was officiating, which made the viewing even better.

he was facing Tony Robles in the Round of 32, and the layout/shot is below. he was jacked up over over the 6-Ball for the shot on the 4-Ball, and overcooked it. instead of falling anywhere around Point A (Tons of room!) he went too hard and ended up snookered at Point B.

he lost that rack, but went on to defeat Robles. anyway, when i saw this shot and how he didnt end up with a shot on the 5-Ball with all of the area he had to work with i didnt feel so bad about my recent botched runouts.

How did he get "snookered" on the 7 when the next ball to shoot was the 6? Sorry if I don't understand the European rules. LOL

...but I know what your saying. OO is a sucky player and this shot just shows how he has no right to be World 14.1 Champion. He must have paid off the refs & his opponents. :)

Being jacked up over a ball that is close to the cueball, having to hit it perfectly to get position at an awkward angle, shooting in front of hundreds of live audience members, and shooting on TV under the TV lights, I would have to say NO, that is not his "worst shot ever".

His worst shot is flat-out missing an easy shot when he is in the comforts of his home poolroom/house just practicing. All the pros do it.

The shot in the diagram is very easy to mess up (you're jacked up over a full ball, only about an inch behind the cueball!!!). That combined with the conditions Oliver was under, it's actually a pretty difficult shot to control (lets not forget the lightning fast table that is heated under the TV lights).

DCP it seems like you really lack in being able to understand this game. You trying to play pool is like a rabid squirrel trying to play pick-up stix.

sorry, i was having a cigar buzz, and put the balls in the wrong spots. he got snookered behind the 6-Ball, and didnt have a shot on the 5-Ball after pocketing the 4-Ball.

the diagram is right now. just isnt my week, i guess.............:(

DrCue's who cares about somebodies botched runout? EVERYBODY botches a runout. If everyone played perfectly that wouldn't make the game very enjoyable now would it?

For Steve Davis to say that was the worst shot that Oliver ever shot I find to be ridiculous. I doubt he even said that exactly.

and i just fail to understand why people feel the need to constantly attack me all the time??? all i did was post a shot the newly crowned 14.1 world champ made a few years ago for everyone to view, and i get attacked???

i just went and watched the tape again. here is what Romford Slim said, exactly:

"YOU JUST PLAYED THE WORST SHOT OF YOUR LIFE, MATE!"

Right, I forgot that Steve Davis is Oliver's estranged brother and they hang out with each other 24-7 :rolleyes: :D

I don't know about attacking you, but everyone feels the need to poke fun at you because you cry about everything, and you seem to annoy everyone too.

DCP: People take shots at you because you broadcast your avoidable errors to the world as if everyone needs to understand the misery you endure whilst playing pool. You seem to enjoy wallowing in self-pity.

Further, you go back online and ridicule a World Champion on a single error he made 5 years ago. The fact that he RARELY makes those mistakes is ignored in an effort to self-support your misery.

It would be a refreshing change of pace if you would actually run a rack and post a cuetable of the splendid way in which you did it. Sound like a good idea?

So he does (or at least has) read some of the threads on this forum.

None of us should ever post anything we would not say to somebody's face. And none of us should ever post something that we would not also want posted about us.

Anyway, one thing I do know for another fact....Oliver Ortmann shoots better than I do. And if he can occasionally miss, there's hope for all of us!:)

i NEVER ridiculed him!!!

i spoke to Oliver back at the BCA in Vegas in 2001 by the elevators at the Penthouse on top of the Riviera. told him he was my favorite player to watch, and enjoyed his ESPN CoC matches. i sat right next to his table that night when he lost to Victor Ignacio. he~ll, he even winked at me during his match.

just read the post, i said here's a shot he made that Romford Slim claimed was his worst shot ever. PERIOD!!!

if you posters want to read ridicule into this, fine, gord hedd, thats your perogative.

Poor Oliver. He actually missed position. What a doofus? How will he ever get into the HOF doing stupid things like that?

DCP, I'd like to hear about your ten greatest shots. I know there must be a million of them, but try to pick out your ten favorites.

IMO, I am thinking he may have said that because he thought Oliver should have stopped the cue or slightly drawed instead of following it. However, I could be wrong.

Stalking him since 2001 is a serious crime in itself but is now compounded by your innuendo filled attempt to suggest that a wink in your general direction is evidence of a mutual attraction or of a desire for more intimate contact with you.

If you fail to desist we will seek an injunction barring you from approaching within 500 yards of any pool table, including demo ones. We trust you will grasp how seriously this would affect your leisure time and hope this will encourage your compliance.

In the meantime, in respect of his missed position and his winking at a man, our client wishes to publicly admit that he has indeed occasionally played a bad shot, especially when playing snooker practice, but to categorically reject any notion that he has ever had more interest in the brown than the pink.

You're trying to compare a World Champion making one minor mistake to your endless stream of D-Level Play? WTF??

First of all, he went on the WIN the match - have you EVER done that? No. Against another World-Class Player? No.

Will you ever? No. Do you have the capacity to ever be a "Player"? No.

Do you win the award for the Most Annoying Poster of the Year? Yes!
