our postal service in action

A friend is a room owner and also a USPS emloyee in a supervisory role. I had to ship my TAD to PA and he in no uncertain terms advised me to send it Overnight Express Mail. If I remember correctly he said that it would basically get 'one on one' type of attention and that everything else is pretty much thrown into bins and pushed through. I had no problems at all, whew.
 
If you ever get the chance to tour a USPS, UPS, or FedEx Hub you will be amazed that they ever get anything shipped to where it is supposed to go without being damaged!

The employees unloading the trucks are only interested in finding the Barcode on the label and scanning it as quickly as possible, and then they throw the package on the conveyor belt. They don't look at any thing else, like "Fragile", "Handle With Care" etc...

So take everyones advice that has posted here about how to prepare a package for shipping. I would also recommend a very liberal use of Bubble Wrap & Packing Peanuts on the inside of the package.

I use a 31'' x 3'' drainage tube and cap it at both ends, similar to what you posted. Cost $5.00 extra bucks but you could drive a truck over it.

That's how I ship all cues. Better safe than sorry
 
I have shipped over 200 cues over the last 10 years usps and never had a problem. Its all in the packaging. The way some people package there cues you would think they never got past 3rd grade and then they blame the post office. It's like they think someone carries it to the destination personally by hand. I have used fedex and ups once and a great while and never had issues. Just by looking at the box used for this shipment its a miracle it wasn't damaged. All of the shipper use cargo containers to ship and there are 50-100 packages loaded into these containers and this one was likely one of the ones on the bottom. If an item is fragile then pack it like it is fragile not in some recycled thin worn out box you found in the back of a chinese restaurant! And most of the packages sent thru the postal service are transported by fedex.The postal service has no planes or long haul trucks in its fleet,its all contracted out.

the way i ship

i build and sell cues, so i want my cue to get to the customer undamaged. i use a cardboard reinforcement inside one of the triangle tubes supplied by the postoffice. bubble wrap, cardboard inforcement, bubble wrap then the triangle carton. i ship priority insured us mail. i have never had a problem.
i bought these from ebay and the sellers history showed no other pool supplies for sale. so ,i guess he was a first time cue shipper.
i also think its more the shippers responsibility to pack it correct, than it is the responsibility of the carrier to take care of a crappy packed item.
