Pacquiao learns from Behrman

The best is the quote of:
"Many players complained about the quality of the tables. The organizers did not bother to put carpet down on the floor, there were no chairs for spectators except in the TV Arena, some of the referees were so incompetent that they had to be removed and there was not even a scoreboard so anyone could follow the play. One player simply described it as “a mess”."

What do you expect when you stage a supposed world championship in a damn shopping mall. I pulled up that crappy stream a couple of times and it looked like they were using pool tables like what they use to sell at Sears. The last event they had streamed from there, the umpires could be seen watching everything but the actual play on the tables. Sad what "world championships" have been reduced to.

at least they didn't use Cyclops balls that's for sure

Well goly

Is this the same tournament folks were complaining about SVB not attending? I don't get it. Manny has the biggest fight of his life coming up and you would think he would focus on that and do the pool thing when he is retired. Another pool tournament saga.

Seems there was a problem with the use of word World back when Charlie Williams was infringing on its use with a women's event and the WPA protected its brand. If this is indeed a WPA event if they/he is a reputable brand then these issues should be covered prior to the event. Since there are few World branded events you would think they/he would have a representative at each event. The WPA is one person , he has a few people wave high on paper but are probably not paid .

They are pros and complaining about the table? Everybody plays on the same table so everybody are equally playing on a crappy table, so why complain. As for the price money, someone please hang that sister in law.

so what is it that the WPA actually does?

cause all they did w/ the Open, was "spin" their non-response for Quan Do's claim, while they were paid in full.

i think it's time for another ABR report w/ Ian.

I would suggest you read the letter from Ian Anderson posted on the AZ Home page. He lays it all out pretty well as to what happened to the missing 5% extra taken from the players in the WPA Ten Ball event. The WPA had nothing to do with the Doubles tournament either.

I strongly suspect the problem lies not with Manny but with the people he entrusts the money too. I have heard he is often taken advantage of by his "hangers on." We all know full well this scenario, which has been the financial downfall of many successful athletes. I sure wish his wife Jinkee would take charge of these things, but I also suspect she isn't a big pool fan, because that caused some problems for Manny in the past.

I just hope that Manny gets an earful about all this, because he is a really good guy with a big heart. He needs to find people he can trust to be in charge of stuff like this, that's all.

Because it was a WORLD Championship. It's supposed to be conducted with some class on excellent equipment. If the Master's was switched to some flat sun baked public golf course in Clermont Fla, I think you might hear some *****ing from the golfers also- even though it's the same for everyone.

The WPA Responds

http://www.azbilliards.com/news/stories/11812-wpa-responds-to-pacquiao-event-troubles/

A key paragraph:

"My understanding is that players were paid their prize money less 5%. This didn’t apply to the player groups earning $300 or $700, just to the ones above that. If this is correct, then a “sanction fee” of $8,400 has been taken out of the prize fund. I can assure everyone that the WPA certainly did not receive any part of this money. The WPA charged an entry fee in lieu of any sanction fee being deducted. Whoever decided to take the money had no right to do so. The players had been given the information about the event, and it was stated in there that there would be an entry fee, but no mention of any sanction fee. The information that was available to players is the basis on what a player uses to make his decision of whether to play or not. To add any other fee after the event is announced is wrong, but to do so after the event has completed is totally wrong and unacceptable."

+1 . Chill out people, don't put BB in the same sack with a multimillionaire, public figure, and Congressman. 50k for him is equal to less than a penny for us. Stop running around and defame the gentleman. The situation is complicated because it's family related, and of course bad timing, Manny is probably overwhelmed with everything going around with the fight now. I still expect he makes it right.

$8400 to sanction? The WPA was there at the venue. Why the hell didn't they get there a week or so early to see what they were sanctioning and have them fix the problems before the tournament got under way? IMO the WPA does nothing but collect a fee so they can vacation once a month. Why did they even go to this tournament...they didn't do a darn thing? Where did the WPA come from? Who gave them this power? I say all promoters should refuse to sanction any tournaments. Selling points and do nothing. Gee, and they put mob members in jail. The WPA is not needed. Any promoter can invite who they want or everybody. Any info they would need is right on AZB, and if it's not, they can get it. Johnnyt

Like most others, I don't believe that Manny has anything to do with what went on other than his name is attached to it. No Bueno if you are in politics with aspirations to continue. From what I hear Manny was not even there but has now been made aware of the situation.
To those including myself who say "Manny knew nothing and will be pissed but he will make it right with the players and just come with the money" I feel it won't be that easy I am afraid. The World 10-Ball won't be hard just a matter of giving whatever was taken from each player back to them. The doubles event will be tricky if what we are hearing is true. Supposedly $40k was taken from the added money, so some would say just figure out what people who cashed would have got and pay them. Here is were some complaining could start from the teams who dropped out of the event. They say that 50% of the field dropped out because the added money went from $100k to $60k. They will probably say "Hey, what about me?? if I knew it was still going to pay out then I would have played in it"

Sorry, but if you dropped out, your out. Don't even put them in the math. I'm pretty sure I saw Manny there on at least one day of the streams. Johnnyt

Yeah, I only heard that he wasn't even there and maybe he was there part of the time before the "mixup" happened as I just don't see him going along with this.

Secondly I agree with you on the people who dropped out but it won't stop people from sounding their frustration and although I agree with you I can also see their point to a point :)

What do you mean? WPA said:

"If this is correct, then a “sanction fee” of $8,400 has been taken out of the prize fund. I can assure everyone that the WPA certainly did not receive any part of this money."

so... why are you complaining about that $8400 in respect to the WPA?

does anybody know what the sanctioning fee is used for? what does one get from the WPA by paying these fees?

Just for clarification purposes, Manny WAS there for at least the FINALS.

Barry....Manny....doesnt matter..there's no money in pool tournaments and I don't agree with what went on again this year at us open 9ball , but this just shows you that if Manny can't payout and he's got way more money than Barry then there's something wrong...mainly zero sponsorship.
