Hey Lee, What are those ferrules made from? I wonder what they were doing stashed away in a basement? When they are clean, its real hard to improve on LBM, IMO.

Lee,

If you want to know for certain, send me one.
I can tell you in 30 seconds.

This is not a joke.

I found a batch of those myself several years ago but didn't know what they were. I've been using them for Viking replacements because they already had the tapped hole. It is not LBM. I believe it was called Marbelite or something like that. The yellow skin cuts away easily - see the sample at the bottom of the pic. I took .020" off the diameter to expose the pure white interior which easily polishes to a beautiful shine.

Too bad I didn't know what I had. I had over 200 of them at one time.

DZ, the pictured material is definitely NOT Westinghouse Micarta,
which is what everybody is hinting around about.

I have one of the EXACT ones in DZ's pic. The hole runs very deep making the cap quite thin. It was sent to me by a customer...he says he bought it from Paul Dayton and it was suppose to be yellow micarta. It looks exactly like DZ's as it turned bright white with a small pass taken off it. My customer was quite unhappy when I informed him it was not yellow micarta.

When you cut one, I'm sure it will look exactly like the one Bob showed in his picture, The other style used by Palmer that also screwed onto a screw was white plastic which I was told was ABS, both ferrules had solid caps. The marblite was also use on Paradise cues. I was told back in the day if you called Mr Paradise for a tip he would just glue one onto a ferrule send it out. just unscrew it and screw the new one on. He didn't glue the ferrules on.

You just had to stick your nose in didnt you i know something thats worthless i wouldnt mention his name... are you a self respecting cuemaker? i was just wondering in 30 years years of dealing in cues i never have seen one of your cues i was wondering about that go knock someones elses post stay out of my business .

Personally, I think they are worthless. I cannot imagine any self-respecting cuemaker using them on a cue.

The design was flawed from the beginning and the material always was cheap.

Don't get hooked on the hype. Saber-T is a much better material. Also, Prather and Atlas both have better materials available at 1/4th the price.

Arnot
With all due respect, their are a lot of people who have older Palmers and Paradise cues with this ferrule and would want them to stay as original as possible. Even though I offer other ferrules, it is still their choice to keep it original.
