Another cue claimed to be a Paradise.

http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=200142600917&sspagename=ADME:X:RTQ:US:11

I questioned the seller whether they had particular knowledge about the authenticity of this cue, and the seller said it just looked like a Paradise. I've seen a number of these and it turns out they are old Mali cues which were also sold and distributed by Palmer in the 1970's.

A lot of Mali and Rich cues are passed off as Paradise, so please be very careful. True Frank Paradise cues are a rare commodity.

Good catch

Tate it shure does look like a Rich -the joint looks too thin in the dia of the opening to be a Paradise.

I sent him an eMail asking if it said Frank Paradise in the window and the seller took the time to inform me that not only did his cue not, but that Paradise NEVER (capitalized so I'd better understand) put his name in the window. Did you see this?:

He did the right thing and ended the listing with little fanfare and promptly too. I really give him credit for that.

I figure you guys are right, Tank and Guycrunch, that it's a Rich, not a Mali. I sure wish I had some old Rich and Mali catalogs because these cues were made in the thousands and passed off as Palmers and Paradises due to the similarities. I should make it a point to find some of their old literature.

Chris

Ps. Kevin, that Model 20 on E-Bay for $4800 was an impressive sale. The fancy Palmers are doing just fine. The Model H with the wedge butt finally sold for $1500. It took some work but the Model 20 had some serious fighting over it.

One or two even-tempered, informational and well-worded emails from you and he decided to end it. Maybe the real credit here is due to you for protecting the historical collectible cue market as you do. I think Palmers doing well in what is supposed to be a slow market has much to do with your information about and protection of that line. At least according to your values (which clearly need updating in a upward direction) that 20 was a new record, it looked pretty original and intact but wasn't pristine collectible. I saw the H end, you put a lower number in my head and I couldn't get off the dime. Don't tell me you don't have a 12?

Kevin

PS Welcome home now get to work!

Yes, I contacted you and the other high bidder. I wasn't sure if you were a member here or not, so I wanted to make sure you were aware. I probably broke every e-bay rule on the planet in the process.

Trading information and sharing opinions is what a trading community is all about. "Bid intereference" (which is against the rules) applies to a situation whereby you contact the bidders in an attempt to get them not to bid so you can get the item (or get it cheaper). Your motives were clear.

Yeah, when I tried to message you back I got alot of warnings about the message coming from outside [so to speak]. So on a hunch I dropped into AZ and found this thread. I'm actually kinda bummed he pulled it. I would have paid 152$ [my bid] even if it was a Rich. Its not like you can get them anymore. Don:cool:
