Pawn shop find

One of our locals was in a Pawn shop and spotted a cue that looked like a South West. It was unmarked with no logos.
He paid the $125 and sent it off to South West.
It was confirmed as a real one.
Estimated value $3000.

Please tell your local friends to stay away from the Denver pawn shops. I check those stores about three times a year and would like these cues to be there when I get the chance to stop in.

I appreciate your cooperation on this matter.

my mom had cancer and I pawned my southwest to pay for chemotherapy, ....went to get my cue out today and it was gone!

Nice find! I once found a Joss North. Turns out it was opposite of what I thought it was though, and when I went to sell it, the deal went south on me.

If the pawn shop sold it for $125, that means they paid about $50 for it.....:(:(

Yep. Not surprised they paid that for it, but am surprised that they didn't know what it was and sold it so cheap. That shop might not be around long making dumb deals like that.

Yep and who ever pawned it for 50 bucks prolly did not really own the cue most likely stolen:shocked2:

I think it's more likely a pool player with a temporary problem who sleeps the allotted time
to pay the interest and claim it back....often it's a gambling or drug addiction problem.
....sometimes it's inherited and the value is unknown.
The chances of getting a Szamboti or a Buska is greater in a pawn shop than getting a
Scon or some such 'cause they are clearly marked.

But usually it's an addiction rather than a theft...I've bought playing cues in pool halls for
a fraction of their value...their nose was open in more ways than one.

Years ago i bought a real Buska for $100  and at the time i didn't know what kind of cue it really was.

Then come to find out it was a Buska and was stolen i ended up returning it to real owner. :frown:

This just reminded me of something that happened to me.
I had a cheap case stolen at a pool hall with a snooker butt only in it.
...a guy I knew, the next day, showed it to me, said he bought it for $10....
...he says he knew I had lots of cues...wondered if I had a shaft for it...
....I gave him the original shaft...he says "Damn, it fits like it was made for it!"

I never told him...value of the cue was about $100...cheap way to make
someone happy.

That's a little hasty.
The OP said the cue was unmarked so I wouldn't expect any pawnshop to know
what was going on.
They just go in their typical mode of lowering the price the seller wants.
Matter of fact I wouldn't expect most pool players to know that this was a Southwest cue.
Probably very few on this forum would know and of those who do most would likely think it
was a knock-off.
So I don't blame the pawn shop.

I got the story 2nd hand. Is this about what happened?

Yeah he showed it to me over at MHB. Said they wanted 150 and he got it for 125. I think your estimate is a bit high as it's a plain BEM player with no points but still, it's probably worth $1500 anyway.
