Pay Per View Costs

So long as American pool has no organization and no schedule of sanctioned tournaments, streaming will be on a tournament by tournament basis, with wildly varying prices and wildly varying quality.

Snooker has an actual tournament schedule, and you can buy annual streaming for about $45.00.
For major tournaments two tables are streamed.

This would seem to be a reasonable solution to me too. I would be happy to pay a Netflix like "subscription" monthly to stream pool.

Call me cheap........... I have never paid for a pay for view and don't see it in my future.............

I've bought quite a few PPV but have started to back off due to poor internet connection. where I'm at you don't have a lot of choices and after losing some of the best matches because the stream was so slow I'm being much more selective. I know this isn't the streamers fault but it does influnce my actions.

Its catch 22 for both sides. The streamer has to charge a certain amount just to cover costs much less be profitable. Then you have the consumer who wont buy it if its too expensive. Im sure if the streamer were guaranteed a minimum amount of paid viewers they could adjust the price accordingly. But as it stands now you have a limited amount of purchasers because they find the price too high and the streamer must charge enough to try to at least cover costs. The other issue at least from my end is that I would hesitate to buy the weekend pass because I do not have that much time to devote to my PC to watch pool on weekends. I would be much more likely to buy a weekend pass if I had the option to watch it pre-recorded over a week or 2 weeks time at my leisure. At this point I just do not see me ever buying the event pass and having to watch it live if that is my only option. I understand the problem for both sides, its a tough spot for both.

I understand the issues on both sides. Simply put, the business model needs adjustment and some ingenuity needs to take place for those that want to be in the business. It's obviously very costly to do, and pool is not a mainstream attraction to draw mass audiences. If streamers want to change that, they need to figure out a way to grow the audience and not rely on milking the hardcore fans with the disposable income. I don't think it requires a centralized organization, although that would help, but there needs to be more collaboration to pull things off. Unfortunately, working with others has always been a huge problem for those in the pool industry. It's the nature of pool I guess.

Too Expensive

I usually have no issue paying for live streams at big events but $17.95 ain't gonna happen for me. $9.95 I would have paid but I can't watch all day and this is far to expensive.

Events like Turning Stone and W9B have spoiled me. I can't imagine paying more than $5/day to watch pro pool and even that seems like a stretch anytime in my foreseeable future. Too many other sports one can watch for free.
Free streaming is a sure way of increasing pro pool viewership. With that comes additional sponsorship money. I think that's the route to explore.

I've seen Upstate Al do a lot of streams on weekends for free in NY. Not sure how he gets by. And then this wkend its 18/day. Maybe its the tournament promoter wanting a big cut?

Viewers

If anyone is watching the PPV I wonder how many viewers it shows watching!

Now if they could organize for streaming a celebrity match(s) I think it would fly big time because of the entertainment value alone. Maybe a King of the Hill deal.

I do watch most PPV's.
But I also HIGHLY recommend getting a Roku. Right now on the U-Stream channel there are 4 pool matches being streamed! (Most I've seen at one time btw)
Not Pros tonight mind you but, it's fun to watch the "mortals" too.
Last weeks Chinook Open was on too.
