Played on snooker table using 6 balls. Ring game each player gets payed for each ball he makes, and gets played double for last ball. We play .50 on each ball and $1 on the six. Break and run played double. I watched Ronnie Allen play at the billiard palace in bellflower. I cannot remember rules they used. Do you call all shots or just the 6, with slop being used on the first 5 balls?

Was popular at Beenie's room in the 70's. You can play any rules you all agree on.
No one was barred from the game! I mostly saw it played $20-$40, $50-$100.
Lots of money changer hands !

I saw

A 100-200 dollar game there in bellflower in the 1970's, but cannot rember if it was call everything or not. The game i saw ronnie brole the hame up because he ended up with all the money.

No calling of anything except bad hits. Loved payball AND liability.

Just for perspective-

According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics consumer price index, the dollar experienced an average inflation rate of 4.04% per year. Prices in 2016 are 518.6% higher than prices in 1970. In other words, $100 in the year 1970 is equivalent to $618.57 in 2016, a difference of $518.57 over 46 years.

The typical Payball game in Bellfower back in the 60's and 70's was $20 a ball and $40 on the seven ball (they used the 2,3,4,5,6 & 7 balls. They also paid double for a run out. So in a five man game, if you ran all six balls you would win $1,120! A pretty nice little score back then. That's how Denny Searcy beat some PayBall games for over 25K. He ran out a lot!

Some of the top players who played in these games on a regular basis included Ronnie Allen, Richie Florence, Keith, Cole, Denny, Jimmy Reid, Bob Osborne, Grady and Cliff Thorburn.

Any reason they didn't use the one? Or why they used those particular balls? I know most ring games that are popular are games with a ton of luck and allow lesser players to feel the playing field is leveled but I'm assuming to jump in a game like that you had to play pretty good or at least think you played good and have lots of money

Snooker balls

On a snooker set there is no one, just 2,3,4,5 6,7, some play with the cherry, 2,3,4,5,6,.

Saw it played in Dayton in 74 at Joe Burns event: 100-200 then later 200-400. Florence, Marino, Dixon, Ogborn, just to name a few. Those were the days. Take the CPI index to those numbers.

When I saw it played and played it myself: Call nothing, run the rack and it was double everything. The more the merrier.

Not that I ever heard. Just the Snooker balls on the Snooker table. Maybe some played with pool balls but I don't ever recall hearing of it.
I've never seen one payball game using snooker balls. Always have used/seen pool balls. Must be a regional thing.

or, in other words, money in pool has not kept up with inflation :frown:

Snooker balls pool balls

We have played with both, I prefer pool balls because I cannot do with snooker cue as I can with regular cue, I'm talking about spinning it throwing a ball. But even that is hard because I have 760 on the table.

I once saw Ralph Guess and Mountain Man playing Payball on a 10 foot Snooker table with 6 pool balls for $50 per ball. I didn't see them calling anything.

Tbh it can't make that much difference, especially with pool balls, there can't be many flukes!!!

Chris

I sold all my pool tables and now I only have a 10 ft Brunswick snooker table, I use reg balls on it. Makes for a great game, it's tough, but makes you work.

Vjmehra, it makes a bit of difference, just say your playing in a 6 man game $5 - $10, a player slops in the 6, thats 50 bucks.
