They are amazed that I will play anyone and everyone
no matter how good they play

Now I don't mean to say i always win,far from it

but let me give you a story how i decided to play
back about 25 years ago when i decided to play again after 10 years away from the game

Jack Potter was a friend of mine and the best player I knew

So I asked him for the 5,6,7,8,and the break

When he beat me,I knew i needed more weight from players of his caliber and up

In fact Jack said I didn't play good enough to play for money,no spot was enough

Black Sam won about $30,000 from Don Furr about this time
so i decided that "it shoulda been me winning that dough"

So iIhung around the pool room wearing a Sport coat and tie, this is the way
I separated myself from the common herd ( it is always best not to act like
all the pool hall bums, they might assume you are smart)

i bought drinks and took players out for burgers, always paying with $100 bills and leaving big tips,I asked Sam to tell me pool hustling stories

I posed as a groupie until one day I said i want to play high dollar pool, but i need a handicap

Well i couldn't beat Sam with the ORANGE CRUSH but boy did I have fun losing $500
I even paid the time

Next I asked for 8 to 3 at one pocket, and the break

It was over 10 years before I played a game without the break
Without the break, the game is impossible to win if you play weak
like I do

Well I got Sam's winnings

He didn't really seem to care

By now I adjusted the game based on the way i knew they played Sam

I didn't always win.but at least i knew how much handicap to get

Incidentally Sam gave me 8 to 6 and the break a few years later and everybody in the pool room knew I had no chance to win but me,as usual I covered all bets

I was about $2000 stuck when Larry Fisher asked me to bet $500 pr game

Now Larry is a real pool detective and tight as a drum so
I said to myself"Self you are in a trap"

It is very hard to wake up and not chase your money in a spot like this

but I finally came to my senses
I looked at Sam,he looked at me

"I said,I am in a trap aren't I"

Sam replied"this makes my day"

I paid off, bought the house a round of drinks and endured with much long sufferings
as the entire pool room basked at my expense"

I hope you guys enjoy these stories
I am frequently asked to put them up here

Not everyone gets to play like I did, I hope you enjoy

I have a great Jersey red story with a wrinkle I have never revealed if you guys respond

Please, please, please Dean. I loved Red. He was one of my all time favorites. I knew him a million years and never knew he was Jewish until after he died. Why he didn't tell me I'll never know. Jack Breit was actually a shortened version of Jack Breitkopf.

Black Sam = Sam Barnes from Dallas ?

Sam was a great player played all games well.

We called him Big Sam

You know how to enjoy your money...most people don't. Looking forward to more details of DeanTales.
