Personal Safety Thoughts When Returning To Pool Rooms

Yeah
You have to adjust.

I'm near expert on every law passed for business, employees and employees in NY and Federal. Because if you aren't you won't get any help.

Anybody with questions, fire away.

I had to explain laws to human resources, county health department, a state representative and the county executive...they don't even have time to digest this stuff and it is changing/reinterpreted often.

It was amazing that you got yours in the first round. I don't know anybody here who did.

I filed on the first available day for PPP to help us offset the 7 months of expected zero income. I was informed by B of A they submitted and were approved last week in the 2nd round. Two of my friends with B of A who filed day one were approved at the same time. We are a corp account with Bank of America and I have a senior VP as a rep - didn't get us there any faster. B of A alone was so overwhelmed with applications, hundreds of thousands if not a million, they simply couldn't get to them, even on day 1 applications.

Mine is simple - we aren't laying anybody off.

I do think there should have been some other screening processes. Bundling the loans with the grants/forgiveness caused a money grab from many companies - it seems like everybody qualified for money, including a lot of large corporations that shouldn't have. There will be a ton of defaults on the repay for non-qualifying companies.

Yeah I was on it early and our local bank did well. Like I said if I got the money 2 or 3 weeks from now it works be a much bigger help... But what can you do?

I'd like to think things will return to normal soon. I saw estimated unemployment next year of 15%abd the year after 10%... That would equal a lot of misery.

Queen, you're a cue maker right? I hope you're wearing a mask for that. Kevin Varney died from lung disease from working with clear and CA glues.

I’m 50. I spent many years in a cabinet shop never wearing a mask because I never even thought about it. Breathing in all kinds of fine particles from particleboard, plywood, finishes such as lacquer, fine dust from sheet rock, it may cause issues later on in life. I didn’t wear hearing protection either. Now my hearing is very bad. I do wear a mask at certain times in my shop, depending upon what I am doing.
Years ago I used CA glues as part of my finishing process. Not anymore. Basically only use them for tips, sealing end grain.

Thanks. I used to do some painting and bodywork as a hobby in the 1980's. I used lacquer and enamel, then when the polyurethanes became popular the paint shop guy refused to sell me paint unless I bought a respirator. The CA glues are definitely deadly and I think that's what got Kevin Varney. He used to talk about applying CA finishes with no respirator or mask. My father died from mesothelioma from spray acoustics and spray insulation. Because of your age, I think you've avoided the asbestos in drywall. They were removing that long ago.

Anybody can die from Covid but the real vulnerability starts at about my age, 65 and up. I hope you at least think about wearing a mask. It's going to be required in some places anyway as time goes on. Anyway, thank for the info and take care.

This has been an interesting thread. I learned valuable some things from SBC, he's no small asset in this mess.

The bottom line is real simple, if the local pool room open for business.

Everyone who is an audit can go, stay home.

It's your personal choice. No one is forcing anyone to go into a pool room ever again.

Shooting Hank is looking to buys your Cue, might be a time to sell out, and play Pool on your computer, think that is safe.

Edumacate me. What is the contagion value of vegetable glycerin oil vaper that doesn't exist without it?

Is that some kind of trick question? You seem to be asking what the measure of something that doesnt exist is?

PRESUMING the question is asking if I know the potential risk level of vape (or other) exhalations, don't even know how that would be measured.

I'd find it hard to believe exhaled smoke/ vapor has no ability to carry contagions.

I'm wondering what measures, if any, do you plan to use to try and stay safe when returning to our community pool rooms. I expect that the rooms will have some sort of social distancing guidelines but what about us as individuals?

Are you planning on doing anything above and beyond what the pool rooms do in an effort to stay safe?

I’ve been thinking quite a bit about pool room safety. I want to start playing again, but minimize the risk as much as possible.

To do that I will do the following:

1. Go to the pool hall on week days only, as soon as possible after it opens (10 or 11 depending on the venue). I expect that most surfaces will have been cleaned/disinfected overnight.
2. Play alone until there is a vaccine or effective treatment. No leagues, tournaments or pick-up games.
3. Choose a table in a corner.
4. Do not tolerate anyone taking an adjacent table. If I can’t get them to move I’ll leave the establishment, and let the owner know why.
5. Before playing wipe down high-top, chairs, table rails with Clorox wipes. Spray table cloth with Lysol. Use hand sanitizer frequently.
6. Use my own pool balls, rack and bridge. Obviously use my own cues.
7. Wear a mask when venturing away from the table.

I bought a new Diamond table for my basement , but it’ll take 4 or 5 months to arrive. I hope it’ll be here before the virus returns in the fall. I expect we’ll be locked down again - at least once - before the year’s out.

There are days of the week, and times most commercial pool room are slow, I would go when they are slow.

You must also realizes the owners of these Pool Room are in the business, to make money. Most. Are not open for laughs, and giggles.

So if they have no business, to pay the bills, most sooner, or later will lock the doors, and CLOSE THE ROOM.

Let me also bring something up......since these pool rooms are so quick to open what makes you guys think they will:

1. Disinfect all the tables

2. Wipe down the cues

3. Clean all the balls

Like I said if they are opening up because they feel it's safe but they also feel it's safe enough to not have to clean and disinfect. This is the mindset that I'm afraid of the most since some local pool rooms can't even brush their tables and now I'm trusting them to disinfect.

Except for the SBC poster who put a direct guideline on what he's going to do.

If you go to your local room please look around to see if anything is different. If not then walk out.

Stay safe and stay home.

Please elaborate? Is it your contention that a vape/ cigarette exhale cant carry contagions?

I'd find it hard to believe exhaled smoke/ vapor has no ability to carry contagions.

No trick question. What was your 1st post about then? You've distinguished no difference of contagion between breath and vapor. So what was your point?

I'm cornfused.

I wouldn't expect you to be free to spray lysol on cloth.

Youre making us a club then.

Both my statements indicate I think infection via exhaled vape/ smoke may be possible.

it is a reasonable question.

Cleaning supplies are expensive and sometimes hard to get.

Factor that in too,

I'd guess your "mask in the car" comment/response was aimed at the fact you can smell smoke from a rolled down window at a stoplight? And correlated that to potential contagious factors hence why mask driving makes sense?

OK...I'll go for that.
