Pete Tascarella - Correct Information

Absolutely. There's a political trick called "push polling" where its not the response that is important, but rather the "information" disseminated through the questions. ie "Would you vote for Candidate XYZ if you knew he was a homosexual and a killer?"

It's often the questions that are damaging themselves. Guaranteed someone will be looking at a Tasc cue some time from now with some dim memory of the "fact" that Helmstetter made the forearm.

Kevin

Are you saying we need some homosexual killers in Congress?

Just in case anyone didn't understand, these answers are from Pete Tascarella himself, not from me. I rewrote his emailed information such that the questions were answered in an understandable organized manner without much ballyhoo.

Thanks for clearing this up, Fred. I too thought some of the early ones were Adam conversions, mainly from the appearance. It's nice to know that Pete took the time to learn how to build full splice cues - it probably helped make him the fine cue maker he is today.

To muck it up, I wonder if any of the cues that he repaired were misrepresented as a Tascarella? Like let's say, a major repair. After all, he was doing the Adam repairs in the States.

He was signing his cues very early because people were saying that his early cues were Balabushkas. So, other than a small number of Balabushka-looking cues, his other cues should be signed.

I believe that at this point, other than a handful of cuemakers like Ernie G. and Barry Sz. (since Barry helped his father with making forearms when he was a kid), there aren't many cuemakers that can correctly say that they've been making forearm point blanks longer than Pete Tascarella. In the midst of all the rumors, I think it's pretty ironic.

In legal or court systems, this is called a "leading" question and not allowed.

Still enjoyed reading some new and accurate information.

If by point blanks, you mean spliced point blanks, you have to take Ernie off that list. He doesn't use spiced points now and other than his Titlist conversions from the old days, I don't think he ever did.

Really? I find that hard to believe, but I guess that was a poor assumption on my part.

If you are not angery why are typing in CAPS:smile: I really do not want to agrue because I think we want the same thing. Let me refrase this another way then, information on this subject is not readlily availible, and again in my opinion, if it takes 10 pages to get it published and it is worth it to me. I am a big fan of Tascarella cues, and have the upmost respect for the tradition Pete is carrying on, with his construction techniques, IE only traditional methods, no epoxy.

I also have a great deal of respect for your knowledge and Freds on this subject, thanks for your information.

Oh and by the way, I have a friend who is also a collector of Tascarella cues. His name is Mike McDermottt, I do not know for sure but, I would bet you two know each other.

Take care Marcus.

MIKE AND I HAVE TALKED, AND DONE BUSINESS SEVERAL TIMES, AS A MATTER OF FACT, I JUST GOT HIM A LEAD ON ONE OF THOSE CASES THAT HE COLLECTS.

HOPE ALL IS WELL,

In 1990 I bought a Helmstetter cue directly from Don at their offices in Long Island NY- I asked Don to make me 2 additional shafts for the cue - when I picked up the shafts- Don told me that "Pete" did great work- at the time, I did not know who "Pete" was in the cue repair world.

So I ended up with 2 Pete Tascarella shafts for my Helmstetter cue that cost me $90 from Don. I think the extra shafts were about $60 each and they were great shafts!
