Petition to bring billiards to 2024 Olympics

I signed it already. It’s just a change.org petition. No harm in it. If it really takes off it could mean something. If it doesn’t then it won’t.

Respectfully, Matt
(I don’t take myself too seriously. I hope you can return the favor.)

It’s been tried several times before. I think one time it got as far as being named a
demonstration sport, but the committee that picks the demonstration sports decided
to go with Pickle Ball instead (no kidding). It would be great if it was successful. I seem
to recall that one big hurdle it just couldn’t get over was it had no world governing body
or something like that. Too bad really, I think it could be a great summer sport.

The World Confederation of Billiard Sports is the recognized, by IOC, global governing body.

Just got done watching bean bag tossing on ESPN. I think more people were interested in that than pool. Sad but true.

We need the Kardashians behind us, they make things happen.

Joe Rogan needs get behind this in his podcast, needs some billiard related interviews/content and maybe a quick psa for this every episode or so and something like that just might be the shot in the arm billiards as a whole could use.

The Olympics have already become inundated with activiities that are borderline sports
and IMO, the last thing needed is to add the game of billiards as a new sports category.

At one point, croquet, cricket & even tug of war were official Olympic sports competition.
I wouldn't be surprised at some point to hear clamor for adding video gaming competition.

Here are the 33 sports to be included in the 2020 Tokyo Olympic Games Five (5) new sports

I wonder if part of the issue is that "billiards" is a category that encompasses many different disciplines.

For example, you add baseball and softball, and you have added two things. However, with activities like Aquatics and Shooting, these are categories which have a great many often unrelated sub-disciplines. And if Billiards is selected, then will it be 9-ball? 8-ball? Snooker? Billiards? One Pocket? All of them? Do you have an all-around champion like Gymnastics? It gets complicated fast. I can see why adding certain sports is easier because of the single-aspect of the activity. (hope that makes sense)

Maybe start with a single game like 8-ball that everyone can easier relate to, and see if it can grow from there. Look at how many different snowboarding disciplines there are now, and that all started from being a single demonstration sport.

You may have opened a whole new can of worms with THAT statement.

Although....I totally agree with you.

Maniac

MotoGP packs 100k fans into stadiums, and does millions of viewers every event. And is a hell of a lot more physically demanding than pool. It isn't an Olympic sport, and none of the riders are petitioning the IOC.

Pool players need to get over it.

Well golly....

I wish pool could be elevated to Olympic status. Would it be Snooker, Chinese 8 Ball or 9 Ball. I doubt One Pocket would make it as only the elite thinking players understand the game, or so I hear.

Maybe a couple of two man teams from each entering country. After that we could have the World Games like figure skaters do.

I love playing pool. I also think pool has about as much of a chance of making the Olympics as "hammocking" does! But, I hope I am wrong.

Pigeon shooting used to be a sport .
Skeet shooting was too, I believe.
Shooting with a 17 cal pellet was too iirc.

They have pool and snooker in Asian Games .

Pool and snooker should be in the summer olympics imo.
Bowling as well.
Ok, maybe darts too.

Olymipics

Pool , Billiards in 2005 or 6 was rated as the number one non Olympic sport for drug and alcohol abuse ………………………..
I believe it was like 70% of billiard or pool players who used drugs or abused alcohol or both .
Bowling ranked #2 and was way below pool by a large margin .

Now with 13 states where MJ is legal people are more open to smoking reefer.
So whats the chances that allot of professional pool players get stoned and cant or don't want to be drug tested ?

My point is finding a team that is straight and can get along and that can pass the drug and alcohol tests may not be as easy as it sounds ..

Cheers
