Phenolic Tip Help

Can anyone help me I just recently bought a new break/jump cue with a phenolic tip/ferrule combination but the thing i'm having trouble with is getting it to hold chalk well, so if anyone has any tips please help.

Appart from that I love my bunjee cue.
 
Phenolic is somewhat slick & does not hold chalk well at all. Best bet is to have it changed to the canvas resin based phen....the canvas really holds the chalk well. With the tip you currently have your best bet is to take it to local cueman and have him flatten the radius & machine some grooves in it. See pic below....

Get the tip wet with saliva, then apply the chalk until it is dry. It will hold the chalk fora time. when it starts not holding, repeat that process.

Ummm, I do not recommend this.

As Varney stated, have your local cuemaker machine some grooves in it. That is what has worked best for me.
 
Even though it's phenolic, you can still use a standard tip taper/pic. It will hold chalk well after using one of those.

Hold a small sheet of 60-80 grit paper 3" to 5" in diameter in a slightly concaved "curved" shape in your hand and gently scuff across the tip until you knock the polish off... DO NOT change the radius the tip has.... It should be mostly flat with a slight curve so not to apply english on the break !

This will correct your problem.

For the most part these tips are maintenence free but you must chalk everytime !

I cut some grooves in both my break shafts with one piece g-10 ferrules today and it definetly does hold more chalk
