Philippine Open

I was there yesterday and it was a real zoo! People everywhere clamouring for a look at the pool players. It was like being greenside at the Masters in golf.

They absolutely love the pool players here, Pinoys and foreigners alike. Seems like everybody wants something autographed, whether it be a shirt, cue case or even a cue. It's hard just to walk around in here, there are so many people everywhere. Even the balconies on the second and third floor are packed. I've never seen such hero worship for the pros anywhere else. They are genuine superstars here.

I'm loving it, even though I have no where to sit. A member of the MR crew finds me a good spot on the rail where I can see a couple of matches. It's electric here, the crowd going wild on shot after shot.

For me this event only underlines what I've been saying for a long time. The depth of talent in the Philippines is on display here. Even their big name players are threatened by other Pinoys only they know. As I expected it is a challenge for the well known pros to fade all these great Filipino pool players. They don't care what your name is, they want to beat up on you.

How about AJ and Jaybee! That's what I've been talking about. There's probably a dozen more teens who play their speed. Some may not want the exposure and others may not have been able to come up with the $500 entry fee.

Many of the other excellent Pinoy players on display here are in the 19-22 age group. You want to develop your game, come here and gamble with these kids.
