Philippines vs World in December '08

Hi JeffWinters, we will ask the major sponsor on what to do with the tickets, I am not yet sure if they will charge (for the seats), but this event will be held in a mall (Trinoma, Quezon City) so, people who will go to the mall can still watch it from the 2nd,3rd and 4th floor of the mall for free.:)
Also, may I inform everyone that the correct title of this event is QC PHILIPPINES VS. THE WORLD.
This is in line with the promotion of our city as a tourist destination, thus it is important not to forget the QC Philippines thingy.:)
As for the selection of players, we submitted a number of names to the sponsor, and they made a choice, so let us just be happy that, at least, there is another event to look forward to in this part of the world. We welcome your suggestions, though, and we will keep them in mind if there will be another one like this next year. Our hope is for this event to be a yearly one, a la Mosconi Cup and if this year's will be successful, the prizemoney might go up for next year. So let us all hope for the best!!:)

then it should be an acronym, but a full name: Quezon City Philippines vs World. I mean perhaps everyone at the Philippines knows what QC stands for, but for the rest of the world it might seem irrelevant.

I start counting days before the event begins, hope to see many of you guys there. Edwin, Perry, BlowFish, sputnik? ;)

Once again, why wasn't I asked to give this one a whirl? Politics, I know. Charlie Williams probably had a hand in my "Non-invite." As it stands right now, I won't play, even if they ask me to.

Charlie's only participation in this is when he replied to our email when we formally invited him. The sponsor, as I said had the final say on the line up. No player, filipino or otherwise could dictate on the sponsor as they have their own agenda ( QC tourism). No intention of snobbing anyone or creating enemies here.

I have filed my leave and will most likely be there. Only some urgent pressing issue will I not make this. I need a seat to watch. ;)

@Virginia Gil and the Sponsors, I sincerely apologize for eliminating the QC = Quezon City from the title when I posted it.

The title of this event is "The QC Invasion: Quezon City, Philippines vs the World, Grand Billiards Showdown". :D

What are the dates for this ?

How close is it to the Mosconi in Malta this year ?

.

Philippines vs China

That would be the best match up..

They should have a yearly tournament like the Mosconi Cup.

6 on 6 just like the Mosconi.

can anyone answer - World Team - Charlie Williams ? is he promoting this ?

Please read Virginia Gil's post above at #22 and #25.

Also, this is not 6 on 6, it's 8 members per team.

Edwin, this is called "hijacking a thread". This thread is about the team event in December. Not Alex's problems with Raya.

Or maybe... these players enjoy coming to the Philippines more than all the others who where sent invites so they immediately responded. We all may have our own favourite players but if the organizer and the player doesn't agree on the terms then these players can't be part of the event. It wasn't at all the fault of the organizer if he can't afford some player's appearance fee. At least the organizer didn't react like BSCP when Alex asked for an appearance fee to participate in Makabenta's private promotion The Pool Showdown. Alex Pagulayan was banned from BSCP events and the Guinness Tour Philippine representation based on trumped-up charges of "sharking". Aside from the other participating players not receiving the promised 3k Pesos/episode travel and food allowance.

shocking news (or are they just rumours? I doubt): EPBF won't let one of Europeans (or may be they will let none of them, I don't know yet) to participate in the event. Otherwise he will be banned from Eurotours and World championship!
I believe it is a step to support official organization (BSCP) on behalf of WPA, because the event is held by BMPAP.
Maybe we should expect further changes.
Anyway I'm strong in my will to go to the Philippines at that time, and will be pleased to meet everyone who is going to be there as well.
But what the officials do is ruining our beloved sport. Sad.

Personally saw that SMS message and I'm confirming what you just wrote. A-B-Cs are at it again.

ring game

I think the 10 ball ring game in Olatha Kansas is on the same date. I know most of the players from over there wouldn't be there anyway but I don't know why people don't check to see if there is any other major tournaments going on when they scedule these things. Last year we had about 4 of the Phillipine players there. Butterflycues

Any further developments on that news/rumor?
I've heard the following:
1) officials like WPA and EPBF, ASBU and BCA(?), namely all official organizations around the world could probably ban the players if they go and play either in Quezon City team event or Bacolod City tournament. BMPAP might be the reason.
2) the Philippine party don't give a $h!t about that as they don't want to obey some stupid officials and they run their tournaments as intended. I don't know who will play there, may be Pinoys only then. Nevertheless, I'm going to be there at the Philippines for these dates, and with hope I get a chance to watch some master pool.

p.s. if wpa or whoever want to have control over anything they might end up controlling nothing very soon. As soon as the players around the world form some sort of a union and make their own decisions which is better for them personally

If EPBF are gonna ban players for playing in BMPAP events I will personally write them a letter and informing them that I played in a BMPAP tournament this summer, and that it was not sanctioned by the WPA.

If they ban me from future Eurotours or EPBF-sanctioned tournaments, then the Norwegian Federation should ban me too from competing in their events, since they are members of EPBF.

If that happens, I will call my lawyer immidiately.

I dont know if there is filipino world champions in 1st World 10Ball . . . I dont think so . . . . :~( . . . . sad to say

If this is true, then EPBF / WPA is taking this a step further that what they did before. Previously, they stated that if players participate in tournaments which clashes in time with the officially sanctioned tournaments, they would / could react towards the players.

I dont think the QC 8 man invitational clashes with anything.

Either way, I am not surprised. Remember that we also in Europe have the situation that the same guys are sitting in both WPA, EPBF and the promotor IPBF who runs the money machine Eurotour. Just like in the PI, with BSCSP and Raya Sports..

I would also like to take this opportunity to confess that I played the Villar Cup in Cebu in June, and I certainly hope I will be playing the Bacolod tournament around the same dates as the QC tournament. So, if I am banned for this, I just have to make some sacrifices and go to PI to play tournaments instead. Too bad, since there is no fun there:wink:

Everytime somebody tries something new in the pool world, the only reaction from EPBF / WPA is to strong arm them by banning players. Competition and more pay-days for the players are obviously not an issue high on the priority list:frown:

BMPAP is viewed either like a cancer or like a glimmer of hope in the world pool scene, depending whose side you're in.

Although the WPA-BSCP-Raya is a set-up not unique to the Philippines, the actions of BMPAP should be an inspiration to those who feel that their careers are being limited and controlled. BMPAP is a union of a majority of the players, managers and promoters who are acting solidly towards progress. Anything that hinders progress will be solved, and all the people involved should WORK towards a greedless creation more opportunities for the players. Ultimately, rewards should be in order.

If viewed as a cancer, this momentum has completely disabled an organ in the Philippines and should be ready to metastasize to other organs.

Roy, Peter and the others in Europe, the effort in bringing people to court may be a mere hindrance to the system. Maybe its time to get your players together in a solid movement and organize events that offer media mileage to sponsors via TV and Internet TV. That is the key. Break even if you have to, but to get from point A to point B, you will have to take the first step.

Only then you will understand why BMPAP had taken the issues to the forums... you will have to remove your wristwatch and roll up your sleeves because there will be resistance to progress.
