Phoenix Pool Room to close down!

Whats the differences?
I am higher than a 7 and have played on both. I know what I find different between the two and am just looking for your opionion.

Sorry Alexanders closed. All good things come to an end but it doesnt make it easy. One guys crapper is anothers Taj Mahal.

We are getting a new room near me with Diamonds so I hope it becomes
a great place to go.

Well....

The general feel of the table is different just from the rails being a bit wider and flat instead of rounded...

The pockets are one of the biggest differences. It is a lot tougher to slide the ball in off the rail from a diamond away. Cuts down a bit for the opportunity to play position by sliding the ball in off the rail...It forces you to play a more true to what a normal 9' would give.

The cushions have a much cleaner bank than the valleys...especially on firmer hit shots...(Although the Diamonds tend to bank a bit short in my opinion)

If you are a jumper...the slate has a better spring to it then the valley tables do.

Those are some of the quick more obvious differences... I am sure there are others that I am leaving out at the moment.

Thanks
I get the feeling of being on a bigger table when playing on the Diamond. Same size but the feel is different. I like the pockets and the ability to play on and around them easier.
I don't notice very much different between Valleys and Diamonds when comparing banks or angles. Every table no matter what brand seems to differ in this area.
I like how the Diamonds don't accept mishit balls as easily but I have played on some tougher Valleys and Globals as well.

In SoCal at Mr Luckys they have some Diamonds that IMO play tougher than the ones in vegas. I was told something about them being Pro-Cut or something. I know that they don't accept balls as wesily as other 7 foot Diamonds.

I just wish that more rooms would install Diamonds but I can see room owners thoughts when comparing prices.

Someone should invent a retro kit for Valleys and sell it to them or owners of the tables. Helping to eliminate those huge metal corners and high plastic ridges around the pockets would do wonders. Not sure if it would be feasible but having a kit that owners could turn their own tables into a
better table for less cost than buying another brand seems like a no brainer.
Some places are fine with what they have and wouldnt change but many places would change.

Ron M use to post as Snooper on this Forum, wonder if he will add anything about the reason for his closing.

The people who have supported him know the reason. I'm sure he does not feel he needs to explain to those who do not, have not, and never will support him, or Arizona pool for that matter. He has no time for negativity, nor does he have the time to post over 2000 times on a forum. He is too busy supporting the pool scene in Arizona. Oh, and by the way, it's SCOOPER!

I am not, at this time anyway, responding to these posts in an effort to thank the supporters of myself and Alexanders. That notice of thanks will come at a later and more appropriate time. I am responding to these posts, at this time, to express my most sincere thanks to the individuals that have participated in this one particular thread. I know who most of you are and I thank you from the bottom of my heart. .........
I know what I have done and accomplished for pool in Arizona over the years and I am overwhelmed with the number of players who have said so many good things about me and Alexanders in this post. Like I said, thanking the hundreds who supported me and Alexanders over the years will follow. I have a whole bunch to say, and will, as soon as I determine the time is right. PRINCE is correct by the way. I have been busy over the past couple of days. I have just spent the past two days at Kolby's in case Chuck needed my help with his $25,000 added Shootout. However, that tournament is running along so smoothly that all I got to do was watch about 20 of the worlds best players play pool.
PRINCE is correct again when he says I do not feel compelled to list the reasons why I decided to close Alexanders. Those who should know, do know. I will however tell you that my list of reasons, to close, was 12 pages long. On the third page, at #46, was ...."close down and avoid having to deal with the cococowboys of the Arizona pool world."

Ron,

It's CooCooCowboy.

It's people like him who helped to close Alexander's. The 'Cheaper than 5.75 a tip guy'.

I'm so glad I had a last chance to stop in Saturday night...To me, Phx just won't be the same, at all! If I had known you we're closing the doors, I would have got the camera out one last time...

I wish you well with whatever you do...

I spoke to Ron the other day and he said, "I just can't continue to lose money". Plain and simple.

The tables have already been removed and doors locked up.

Well, It's officially now closed. Alexander's tried to fight back against the weak economy, but just couldn't withstand.

I was honored to be one of the many Alexanders teams representing in Vegas BCA Nationals and as one of the team members of the last Alexanders Men's team to have won the AZBCA title.

Frankly I was the weakest link of that team and was thrilled to be a part of it....Ron although very humble of his own talents is probably one of the most clutch 8-ball player I have seen and is a player that has the capabiltity through his own play to elevate the game of his teamates.

Vegas BCA just won't quite be the same next year..... When you wore an Alexanders Team shirt as you walked through the venue...Quite often your opposing team or player already knew exactly what state you came from.

Sorry to hear about this,I got to go there once recently to play with Bobby Emmons on one of the nice Diamond bar tables, cool little room, too bad it has to go but you cant take losses like that unless your Bill Gates.
