I just listened to the on Runout Radio located on the Main page of AzBilliards.

Though the American interviewers were, of course, articulate, thought-provoking, and informative during this broadcast -- :) -- the hair soon stood up on the back of my neck as I listened to the chairman of the BSCP, Yen Makabenta, comment about the BSCP's handling of Alex Pagulayan not competing in Shanghai. :mad:

He stated that Alex Pagulayan was "penalized" because of taking excessive bathroom breaks, causing delay of game, as well as performing antics when in competition that were considered not becoming to the Filipino pool culture.

Makabenta further elaborated that the reason the BSCP didn't inform Alex ahead of time about him not going to Shanghai, thus resulting in a financial loss to Alex for plane fare, was because, according to Makabenta, Alex was "afraid to play in a couple of events" and became elusive or unavailable to the BSCP. "AFRAID to play in a couple of events"? Hogwash, I say! :rolleyes:

Makabenta stated that NOW the BSCP will be "hesitant to include Alex" in their events because of his "money demands." This is a frame job, and the BSCP seems more like a committee of crawfish, covering their tracks. :mad:

Alex Pagulayan is one of the most beloved players in the entire world. People everywhere enjoy seeing him complete, and the BSCP must be deaf, mute, and blind if they do not understand this. :rolleyes:

Wake up and smell the coffee, BSCP. Do the right thing. Don't segregate Filipino pool players, putting them in a situation where they will have to pick sides. Though Makabenta stated he spoke with Efren and Bustie about Alex's statement of forming a brand-new Filipino pool organization, which will include Efren and Bustie, Makabenta's remarks reminded me very much of a veteran evasive American politician. :o

The American interviewers stated they were hoping to get in contact with Alex Pagulayan to allow him an opportunity to give his side of the story on Runout Radio, but as of now, they were unable to contact him. The sooner, the better, I say! :)

BSCP continues to make themselves look foolish and the 'bad guys' here... so long as they keep on making this the reason for axing him from the Gueiness last leg...this issue will go on and haunts them and their credibility...

they just added insult to themselves by coming out again with another stupid excuse...Alex is afraid to join couple of tournament...

..i think BSCP thinks that their spin is working---maybe Yen really thinks that pool people are really dumb that they will be believed whatever ridiculous excuse he gives the public...

I can only believe that this is going to work in Alex's favor in the long term. This will only strengthen Alex's popularity with the fans. The best thing Alex can do right now is to look them dead in the eye - and tell them, "Nothing you can do will hurt me." Then he should just walk away and play the game like the champion that he has proven himself to be. JMHO.

Absolutely. Not only pay him back for the monies he expended to go to Shanghai, only to be told several days before the event that he was not going, but now the BSCP are impugning Alex Pagulayan's character, stating he was "afraid" to compete in a couple upcoming events, as if he was hiding under a rock. Shame on the BSCP! :mad:

Every single person who has ever seen Pagulayan in the pit comes away with a good experience, not only because he is a great champion player, but his relaxed tableside demeanor complements his style of play.

Alex Pagulayan has won the admiration of many a pool fan. Sometimes when one door shuts, another one opens. I wish Alex good fortune. He is definitely one of pool's greatest players! :)

In truth, I don't know the whole story behind the "Alex" situation. I do hope that it is resolved soon, because Alex ia an asset wherever he plays in my opinion.

That said, I must say something in defense of Mr. Makabenta. He was intrumental in bringing the WPC to the Philipines. And at great expense I might add. He has also been a driving force in creating new and bigger tournaments (with television coverage) in the Philipines and Southeast Asia. This has in turn created more opportunities for his filipino countrymen and foreign players as well.

It is easy for us to be blinded by Alex's high profile. He is a VERY popular player. But he may bear some responsibility here as well. I personally don't think it is as black and white as people would like to think it is. I suspect that both sides in this situation may have erred in how they handled things. But to paint Makabenta as a bad guy with one broad stroke may be over reaching here.

I would suggest to Alex that he take a step back and restrain his rhetoric for a moment. I don't want to see him paint himself into a corner here. Being young and emotional is exciting to see on the pool table, but it does not always serve us off the table.

Yes, it is true that there are "politics" at play in the Philipines, just like we have here in the States. Different players represent different "camps". These are issues that have to be resolved over there, and all our posting here will not change things one iota. One absolute truth, is that Pool is enjoying greater popularity in Asia now than ever before. And that is not a bad thing.

there is something behind and underneath this whole fiasco...

true that yen is really instrumental in bringing wpc in the phil....

but the whole point here in these whole thing is the stupid spin that BSCP has taken so far,,,let me ask you jay,,,,,do you believe for a second that the real reason why alex got sacked is because of his conduct??(like these people are just born yesterday)

i agree that maybe alex should have cooperated with these "gods" at BSCP...since it seems to me the tv appearance they are asking alex to participate is another means by the BSCP to get more sponsors...(they claim that they don't make money here...(i don't know)

but they're lying about alex..they have to do one lies after another..covering one lies after another...it's sickening to me --they absolutely lost their integrity here...

they should have just stuck with their first cop-out--and that is it is their executive pprerogative who to send rateher than lie and lie and lie...

I'm an American who has only visited the Phillipines once, and only for 3 weeks. I'm an amatuer pool player who hails from a poolroom where Alex played for several years. I never saw him there unfortunately, but he was extremely popular with everyone.

Politics in the Phils are thinly veiled. Men with money and power are almost bowed down to. Alex had the temerity to demand of them a professional's just compensation. That is something that the powers that be want to ultimately control, and they can't have anyone else having any power. I hope that the other players support Alex and stand together. It's the only way they have a chance. Otherwise the players will be thrown crumbs from the meal, as always. The rich get richer, and the poor stay poor...Tom

You're obvioulsy quite mad about all this, and for good reason I'm sure. I prefer not to get so emotionally attached to something I have no control over. In the overall scheme of things I don't really think this is such a big deal. At least I hope not. I would like to think that all this means is that Alex misses one tournament.

I'm sorry but I don't have a better answer for you. I don't know the whole truth, and frankly I don't care. Pointing fingers at each other never solves anything anyway. Shaking hands does.

For all you know, BSCP is being nice to Alex by spinning the real reason why he got booted out.

ok, for short....BSCp says they axed alex from the lats leg because of his antics...(it does not make sense, right)

alex says the reason is because he refused to participate on a tv show...

common sense tells you that one is lying...it's obvious right??

no need for bottom lines...just read between the lines..
 
jay... i'm not mad at all...i guess i always appear to be like that,,,i am not against BSCP...i hope they succeed..what i'm against with is this power hungry-controlling pool executives who are trying to send a message out there that we they do what we want and you should do as we tell you....

pool players specially the ones that don't have names yet ... eventually ,,,they will absolutely bow down to whatever BSCP wishes them to do...meaning monopoly....this is still business afterall to them...

pool in the phil is fine before BSCP---if BSCP will help in bettering it,,fine,,,,but this one here just makes me worry that hopefully this is not the consistent practice of BSCP in the future....

If somebody in authority like BSCP uses their position to impose their absolute will on players and if you don't follow what they say....then they will use their power to be vindictive......that's what i'm afraid of....nothing more nothing less,,,,and in the Phil...that's very possible.....

they just showed here that that is what they have done....because alex did not do BSCP's bidding,,,they retaliated on him by not notifying him and sacking him out of the lats leg...

BSCP's action here,, masked with their reasoning of alex"s antics,,actually detrimental to phil. pool because PHIL. could have more chance on the Grand Finals if Alex was included...

guys...specially jay,,i know you still plan to visit Phil. again this coming WPC,,,that's fine..i know you cannot antagonized any of this groups...but i guess me being anonymous i can( i do not intend to---just teliing the truth),,,that we should not really fear these guys. and that we should speak -up ..after all , our allegiance is with pool and not with this business people....
