Aussie soldiers relax at the tables, billiards and snooker, pool having a history with the ordinary folk, too.

John Kling, in 1905. He was an excellent baseball player for several years, as well as playing pool for big money in the off season. He won the world billiards championship of 1909. The Brunswick Kling pool table was named after him. He played catcher for the Chicago Orphans, later the for the Cubs. Between 1906 and 1910, those Cubs won four NL pennants, and won the 1907 and 1908 World Series. Kling was a big part of that.

A photo of Frank Lane and Frank "Bird" Thompson has already been posted, but I wanted to include some other photos of Bird and Lane.
I apologize to the photographer for being unable to give credit or get permission. I found these photos sometime in 2008 but can't recall where they were posted.

Frank "Bird" Thompson. Signs say "Vulgar Language Prohibited". Note the special fan seating.

Frank shoots, Dick Lane watches with a smile. Bird is lining up on the 8 ball to either shoot a safety or a hero shot. Are those unfinished particle board walls tilting?.

Frank "Bird" Thompson. Sign says "Clothes Must Be Clean and Presentable".

Steve Puckett, Frank Thompson, and Dick Lane.
Frank wins the tournament trophy.
I can read his name but not the other writing on the plaque.

Sadly, Frank passed away in the 70s at a very early age, before he had time to come into his own. He was a well known Fort Worth player.

Dick Lane later became a first rank straight pool player.
