My brother and I will be in the Chicago area on 2/13 and 2/14 and looking for suggestions on where to play. Looking for good tables and good atmosphere. Not looking for any action just a good place to enjoy some pool.

You're going to have to narrow it down. The Chicago area for many includes the entire northeastern corner of Illinois. :D

When I was in Chicago, I liked Red Shoes Billiards. I can't remember exactly what part it was in, but sure you can find it online. They have good tables and a nice setup, best of all, I got to pick up a shirt to remember by when I left.

Red Shoes is the south suburbs of Chicago, in Alsip.

For some other places, there's Q Billiards in Darien (southwest suburbs), Chris' Billiards (north side of the city), Palace Billiards in Villa Park (west suburbs), and Chicago Billiards Cafe (Portage Park, northwest side), and they all get my recommendation.

While in Chicago you owe it to yourself to visit Chris' Billiards. It's an old time pool hall like pool halls should be. I've not been to Red Shoes but I've always heard good things.

BWTadpole...What? No mention of Pro Tyme, Orland Park? That surprised me!:D

To the OP...Another nice room, on the north side of the city, is Pressure Billiards. Bustamante, Immomen, and Charlie Williams did an exhibition in there just last week. They have good food & drink, Brunswick Metro tables, and a nice atmosphere. As was mentioned, there are nice rooms on all sides of Chicago.

Thanks for the great suggestions

I will be on the North and the West side of Chicago. Thanks for the great suggestions. Sounds like I have plenty of options. I will start looking them up on a map to get an idea. Hopefully will have time to hit more that just one place.

You might want to check on prices to play per hour also. Of course at Chris's you can run into Freddy B, George Fels, Ed Young and Bobby Hunter to name just a few. Chris's is also BYO which can also save some bucks! If you go park in the lot next to the fire deptartment same side of the street..

Yeah, there's a lot of options. Since you're NW, I would recommend stopping by Chris's Billiards at least once. It's definitely old school and unique.

If you're looking for cleaner suburban places, Palace Billiards and Pyramid club on the west side are pretty good choices.

Have a good trip!

Well, I'm just doing my part to keep the impression of the Chicago pool scene clean. I don't wanna take someone from out of town and guide them to Ed over there. Call it vendetta, or just that I don't like the guy. He's not getting any more free plugs from me. Red Shoes is the place I call home now.

Places I would suggest:
Chris's Billiards-North Side of Chicago(Milwaukee Ave)
Red Shoes Billiards-Alsip
ProTyme Billiards-Orland Park
Q Billiards-Darien
The Loft-New Lenox/Joliet border

All of these rooms have excellent equiptment and good atmosphere.Chris's is the most unique of them all,in that it is old, dirty, quiet, and huge yet it has been standing for milleniums and draws pool players from all around by its very ambience. It is the "Great One" of Chicagoland pool halls. The 95 year old grandma limping around.....yet full of wisdom.

One of the people who works there once said that eventually you'll see everything at Chris's.

FYI, this is located near the northside city limit and the suburb of Evanston in a neighborhood called Rogers Park. It's on Clark St. 1 block south of Devon Ave.

There's an adjoining cafe with sandwiches, pastries, espresso, board games, free wifi and even open-mic comedy and music on some nights. Kind of a cool combination business run by nice, relaxed folks. Lots of college students doing homework on laptops.

Dragon Promotions produced some nice exhibitions with Mika Immonen, Charlie Williams, and Francisco Bustamante at these locations:
Pressure Billiards www.pressurebilliards.com
Palace Billiards
Hennessy's Fine Dining

all were great hosts and promoters of pool, you will feel welcomed

It looks like Chris's Billiards is going to be the place to see and the fact that it is on the north side works out well.
