Plain Jane Cases

Nothing plain about these bad boys, you know how much I love mine and always getting compliments!

Who, is that an add-on accessories pocket? I love that, what beautiful leather!

I love the H.O. you used on those, beautiful fat wrinkles, and the dye caught them perfectly.

Thanks Chuck. I know a lot of leatherworkers hate those wrinkles but I like them, I think they look pretty cool. I've been digging through the stacks of hides at Springfield Leather looking for more of them, ha ha.

Rusty,

Great looking cases. I can't wait for my next case from you. I also want to get you to make me a strap for my banjo. Let me know.

See to me, thats the stuff that makes leather look pretty, and every piece unique. If leather is so clean it has zero marks, it might as well be vinyl......

Hmm... this discussion has gotten me to rethink how I use my leather... I was pretty disappointed because my last couple of sides had more wrinkles and scars than usual, and I was using those parts for backing and other purposes. But I can see how it adds character and can look awesome when done right.

Thanks for posting the picture Jive, that was a cool case! Would you mind if I use that picture sometime?

I'm pretty sure I could make one if you could send me some pictures and measurements of it. I've been meaning to message you about your case order.
Great cases, Rusty. Still using mine

Thanks David! I'm glad you talked me into building the first one, they're pretty neat cases. I had forgotten how nice the leather was figured on yours too!

I agree totally, it gives it some character.

Yeah I use the pieces with scars for lining stuff too. The wrinkles I don't mind if I'm not tooling them.

Rusty,

Your cases are stunning, every one of them. It doesn't matter how much tooling you do, or choose not to do.

You are just one of the best casemakers there ever was. Ever. And it is a genuine pleasure to have you on AZB.

Together Again

I've been meaning to post this for awhile.

After I purchased one of the cases in this post, my team captain asked me if I picked-up anything interesting lately and I told him, "Yes, a really nice plain jane case from Rusty Melton." He responded: "No way! So did I!"

So as fate would have it, the two cases pictured above were unknowingly bought by two friends.

Now that's good karma!

Rusty, if you make any more of these simple cases you've got a buyer right here.
