Players that cheat

Trent -- in your post #72, evidently something went kaflooey in the quoting function, because it has what I said and what jsp said reversed. So please edit that post to put jsp on the first quoted passage and AtLarge on the second quoted passage. Thanks

He is. Pretty neat, isn’t it? I’ve never heard anyone share that belief before.
We have some guys in our league that consider an intentional foul cheating.

If im on the 8 in 8ball and dont have a shot where i can pot the ball i will push HIS last ball into the 8 so they are touching. Hes got ball in hand now and has to break them up but hes saying i cheated.

Did i cheat?

Did you push his last ball into the 8 ball by hitting the cue ball first? If so, then NO!

If the rules were actually changed to allow any of these things it would make it all better. Games change and evolve just like everything else. I am not against the idea of these things being added to the game to create more options for stragety.

It is tough, I wish pool were more like Golf. As I said above, if the rules were modified to allow these things it would make things much more acceptable for me.

League players find new and interesting ways to break the rules all the time. Lower handicapped players I find play the dirtiest pool.

Not many people look at it the way I do. I work on pool tables for a living and ask all of my clients, some are with me, some do it and don't like it, some could care less and will do anything to win. I have noticed this, people will generally do it most when it is for money (or league) and not during casual play.

There will always be people out there that are willing to do anything to win. Its just a game, I love to win, but, I dont mind losing either. Can't win all the time. :)

The rules of pool do allow for intentional fouls. Again, just because something is labeled a "foul" doesn't mean it's "against the rules". If we simply started labeling any miss as a "foul", then would intentional safeties be cheating?

You obviously have no idea what you're talking about. It's one thing to come on this forum and propose some loony idea that 99.9% of the pool world doesn't agree with. But it's another thing to accuse 99.9% of the pool world of being unethical cheaters who "are willing to do anything to win".

BTW, although I mentioned I didn't have to listen to the podcast, I listened to it anyway. The speaker speaks in absolutes and allows no room for subtlety in the inherent differences between games/sports. To the speaker it would seem an intentional walk in baseball is unethical.

Yes. It was an intentional foul. Legal so im not cheating. Some think thats cheating.

I agree that is not cheating, as do 99.9% of people who play pool. If you had hit their object ball with your stick, that would be different.

You sir, have been a Colossal waste of time. Troll elsewhere, please.

Awwww, we dont agreee so you have to tell me to leave??? Sounds just like a little kid who has to winnnnn by any means possible. You sir can just block me and you wont have to ever see my posts again!

Anyone who is ever in the Toledo, Ohio/ NW OHIO area and wants to play pool, I am the mechanic at a local room that has all Diamonds. I love to play, won't cheat and wont get mad if I lose: ALL I ASK IS YOU DO THE SAME! Unless someone tells me up front that they plan on breaking the rules from the start, I expect they will play by them, if they tell me otherwise I will most likely not play them. Its not that big of a deal at all really.

The speaker on the podcast is just going over the concepts of the theory and explaining it in detail. He is actually not for it.

Here is where I stop with you, you cannot tell me ny opinion is wrong, it is mine and just because we disagree does not make your opinion right....

You are also putting words in my mouth about what percentage of people are willing to break the rules to win. I simply stated my opinion and if the shoe fits, wear it. You are the one saying exact numbers and speaking for people that are not you. :)

It seems like it’s a bigger deal to you than anyone else. Also, to be fair, the guy you quoted never told you to leave. Those were your words, he sad “troll elsewhere”.

I think you’re messing with all of us. You got me good! Well played, sir.

See it in 1-hole all the time. People moving balls to their side of the tray... "forgetting" to put a coin up when they owe a ball... Feel like it is a bit easier to cheat in 1 hole then it is in 9ball.

Player A breaks a rack of 9-ball. Nothing goes in. The 9-ball is hanging in the pocket and the 1-ball is in position for an easy 1/9 combo. The 5 ball is between the 1 and the cue ball and the cue ball is frozen to the backside of the 5.

Player B, who uses a jump cue and knows that Player A doesn't use a jump cue, pushes-out to a spot where the 1-ball can only be hit with a jump shot.

Player A shoots the 5 into 1 into the 9, taking a foul...

Who cheated here?

Since both players could use their playing cues to jump
the cue ball into the one ball and have the one in turn jump the
5 ball and pocket the 9, player A is the cheater.

No one. Both played within the rules. (Assuming by "shoots the 5 into 1", you mean, "using his cue stick to hit the cue ball, he plays the three ball combo to sink the 9, resulting in a bad hit but a safer position".)

Fine, no one cheated, but who's the bad guy?
