Playing in pain

I am 3 hours away from an ankle fusion I have been living and playing pool in pain since 1988. A funny thing is my game right now is as good as it has been for a few years:). I hope I can play a little on crutches, if not I'll be back:wink:. ~~~Cuebuddy has a feeling he will be on AZ forum a little more for the next month or so.

Something I learned recently which has been a great help is

If you are going to have any kind of incision besides a scope type scar, see if your facility can get you one of those. They are covered by insurance most of the time, and are incredible. You wear it like a man-purse and it slowly releases medicine to the scar area so you don't get pain around the incision area. It lasts 4 days and I won't have any more surgeries without that.

I wish you well and will say prayers for your recovery.

Good luck with the surgery, Tim. Hope all goes well and you have a speedy recovery.

Dave

Hope all goes well and you get back on your feet soon. Looks like I will be coming to Denver at the End of Nov so I hope youwill be around.

I also wish you a speedy recovery but don't rush things. I've known a few people who went against doctors orders only to end up worse then before.
My point is pool will always be there so good luck and take it slow.

Good luck and godspeed with the recovery, Tim! I hope to be out Denver way during the Christmas holidays, to spend some time with my Mom. Perhaps if you're up and about, I'd like to meet somewhere and shoot some stick.

Best wishes for your recovery,
-Sean

On September 13 I had neck fusion surgery...

Right before that I had participated in the APA Nationals as my "farewell event" for a while since my doctor told me that I wouldn't be able to realistically play for about 3 months after surgery...

Well, I am currently sitting at a month and a half and am chomping at the bit to play again, but I am also determined to follow post-op instructions to the letter...

So, I hope all goes well with your surgery and do yourself a huge favor and just listen to what they tell you about recovery time...

Here's hoping all goes well for you.
Thanks :)

Great point....the last thing I want is to mess this up something I have been waiting 22 years for.
Good luck, I wish you a speedy recovery... and a Hot Nurse!! : )

Thanks for the advice and I will be very careful with the recovery.

Cuebuddy,
Please let us know how you are when you're up to it, as well as if there is anything you need that any of us could do or help you with.
Also, you have made a lot of friends here at AZB. From the type of man you are, I imagine you also have many friends when you're not on AZB.

Good luck with all the post-op stuff. And in no time at all, this ordeal will be long in your rear-view mirror!

Mark I will start to be weight bearing about then and have not played snooker in years so~~~ we will see:yeah:
Hope all goes well! And, don't worry about the crutches. When I was on the them a number of years back, I found I was playing equal to or better than I was before. You tend to pay more attention to what you are doing, so your game might actually go up a little bit. Of course, there are always some shots that you just can't get down on right.
As for you Neil....You couldn't be more right, as usual. I have thought about starting a thread about this many times, due to a life style second only to Evil knievel (spelling?) I have played the best pool in my life while playing with casts on. I once had a ran a 5 pack in 8 ball with a splint on my right index finger (I am right handed ) I am thinking I should have kept that splint.

Sean there is nothing I would like better then that. I am commited to a Pheasant hunting trip about that time (probally a blocker:wink:) so we will see.

Wow Terry the people on this site can really make a difference to how someone feels. No ones better at it then you are although many are right there with you:grin:. I will keep everyone who cares (an a few who don't) filled in on my recovery. Cuebuddy getting to be the king of the emoticons.:o

You can't leave us hanging like that

Oh do tell!

Some of the best and funniest stories ever are about how we mangled ourselves during Evel Knievel-like adventures!

If you are ever up to it, please feel free to enlighten us about some of the havoc you caused your body!

That would be an execllent topic for a new thread! "The ways I almost got killed...."

Terry most my threads die a horrible short death (this being one of my longest) yes... I have not been blessed with the gift of thread:o but that idea of yours sounds like it would give "the update on the Des moines pool scene" a run for its money. http://forums.azbilliards.com/showthread.php?t=141330&highlight=moines

Look, you're still fresh out of surgery. You really shouldn't be talking about "die" & "death" just yet! At least wait till they get the tubes out of you! Just saying...

Let's give this thread a little "Bump for Band-Aids" until we get some really gory stories of mayhem and mangling!
