If you would, please shoot him (jcurry) a private message telling him to keep his head up. Losing to a better player 98% of the time is not such a bad thing.

I just want to keep his spirits up, he is getting really down.

swim with....

:smilewinkgrin:Tell your friend to tighten there game up ,
and quit feeling sorry for there selves,, you earn respect in this world ,respect is not handed to you..................

Tell him/her to practice until they puke, cause there so sick of the game, then tell him/her to wipe their face off, and get back on the table and repeat the cycle......

Dan, I am going to give everyone your personal cell # one of these days! Then your 'fans' can just call you. :grin-square:

Dan just looks to stir the Sh17. We play every day at lunch and he probably wins 2 out of every 3 racks, which is fine. I can't adjust my game to our cheapo crappy table at work as well as he can.

If you was a REAL friend you would give him a few games to make him feel better about his game....and also spot him a few balls....maybe let him win some money off you... now that would be a true friend...Hell, let him win a cpl hundred off you, take him to eat..im sure he will appreciate that;)

I just hate it when friends feel down because of losing to a better player. Even myself, I play with this guy that will beat me 9 times out of 10, but I know it's good for my game and I can definitely tell improvement when I play other people. He rubs off on me, and the same will go for your friend. He might not see it if he doesn't play other people, but he should be improving through the pressure and observation.

Lol ^^

Yeah what kind of friend are you ???

Im just playing around.....

But seriously,,, practice makes perfect........

Stick around, you never know what he'll say next.

LOL Dan, we need to get together so you don't win so much...lol.

I guess I'm a heartless SOB...

I shoot 3-4 racks every night with my wife..she's won 2 games in the last couple weeks....

I tell her she's going to get better at racking or shooting...it's up to her which one.

You have more mercy than I do. ;)

Back when my wife would play pool with me, I played her like I was playing Efren; she hardly ever won a game.

But, when I first started playing, I got my ass handed to me for two years, before I was able to really defend myself and fight back. I know how she felt, but I had the attitude that it was unacceptable to play pool badly. She didn't care as much, so she never plays anymore. She does give me the occasional pat on the back after a nice win, though. :D

('Specially if I buy her something nice with the proceeds) :)

You just wait until I get ahold of her! A couple of weeks of solid practice...then WATCH OUT! :D J/K buddy! LOL

I had the part about getting my ass handed to me typed and decided to delete it....that's where my mentality comes from I guess.

I had "rackers back" for 3 years straight. I guess it feels kinda' good to be on this side of it.......for now :)

Scott it's real funny you say that....Jennifer (my wife) said to me tonight..."you're not the one that needs lessons..." Oh how little she knows on how much better I'll be. :)

Good racks to all....

My thoughts

I would tell your friend that learning to lose is part of learning to play better pool and learning to win at pool. There's a lot to be learned by playing better players whether you win or lose. In the course of my pool playing career; I have quit many times (usually after losing) and have told my better half to just burn the cue, sell it or I'm going to break it and I'm never playing again. I believe I have said this at least a dozen times in the last 5 years. As you get better these types of feelings diminish and for every victory that you have it makes you want to play just that much more.

I think every player has this kind of moment when they are learning to play. As a friend, you should just make sure he's getting into the right kinds of games that are as fair as they can be. If you lose, analyze why did you lose? I've been told and I'm okay with it now, I wasn't at the time, but, "suck it up", once you get tired of racking or losing any more money, you'll start playing better. :) If he needs technical help, gear him towards a reputable instructor. Also, every time my game jumped a level, my game went down for a bit prior and it was usually during these down moments that I wanted to give up but I ended up playing through it and suddenly I was playing a ball better. I'm sure someone else can explain why this happens far better than me. Hope this helps and just tell him to keep playing. JMO
