Please Tell What Really Nice Thing Has Happened To You As A Direct Result Of AZB

Almost too many to list

I have met so many outstanding people. People who haved opened up their homes, game rooms, and lives - true friends. A few highlights:

Chris Tate and Jay Helfert made a trip to L.A. about twice as enjoyable as it would have been without them.

John Barton has shown great generosity on more than one occasion.
1. I had been wanting a nice case for some time and was debating what to buy when John posted a deeply discounted price for the first two of his new J.Flowers tribute cases. I jumped right on it. John was kind enough to add a couple custom options for me at no charge. I now have MY case that will last my lifetime.
2. Another user posted that John sent him a whole new case when he complained about a couple minor issues. He felt so overwhelmed that he wanted to gift the original case He gave it to a young friend of mine who will cherish it forever.
3. John ran a contest giving away a number of cases and I won one for my wife.

I met a great group of guys in DC that provided so much entertainment I am not sure any other Wednesday night may live up.

Interacting and making friends with a few pro players through the Action Room.

Oh yeah, the 2008 Athens, GA tournament is a definite highlight.

It sure is sad that Jerry Briesath gets NO consideration for his lifetime contribution to the improvement and enjoyment of pool by tens of thousands of interested players. He has deserved to be in the BCA HOF for many years now.

I am 100% sure the BCA Hall of Fame Committee has considered Jerry Brieseth. One of the issues for any worthy candidate is that there are many other worthy candidates for the Meritorious category, which only comes every other year.

It wouldn't be difficult to list of ten people right now that extremely worthy. Jerry most certainly would be on that list.

There has been *many* very nice things that have happened to me as a direct result of being on AZB.

Finding some great equipment, good ideas on ways to improve and all of the other interesting discussions that have taken place regarding our sport have been enriching.

One thing in particular, however, sticks out for me.

Approx a year or two ago I posted that due to a cue theft, a friend of mine was looking for a decent cue in the $200-$300 range and within an hour of my posting the cue wanted ad, a well known az member (he will remain annonymous here) pm'd me that he had a cue which was "in nice shape" (turned out it was in perfect shape) and that he wanted to *give it* to my buddy for free. I objected but he insisted and wouldn't even accept reimbursement for shipping. What a kind and generous act this was!

My buddy was bowled over by this AZ'ers kindness and wrote him a thank you note and we included a picture of Joe with the cue. He still uses this cue regularly.

When something like what's described above takes place here, it reminds me why I come here pretty much every day.:cool::smile:

Nothing wrong with a little positivity for the holiday season. :grinning-moose:

So what really nice things happened to you here on AZ?

best,
brian kc

I'm not proud of this, but a few years ago I spent a few weeks in the box over a rash, and unwarranted remark I made regarding one of our members heritage. Totally uncalled for on my part, but I did the deed then did the time.
Now, as I look back over my sullied past, I have come to realize how much this forum has allowed me to become the better person that I now am by showing me my evil ways, then gently, but firmly, guiding me to the place in life at which I now stand.
In addition, I am certain this influence has helped me in my daily life, as well. I am nicer to the young ladies who work at the pool hall, I beg your pardon, Sports Bar and Grill, as well as my fellow shooters who play there.
I call my Mother more often now.
I no longer kick small dogs.
Why, just the other day I put a dollar bill in the Salvation Army kettle, in front of the Walmart.
A week ago Tuesday I opened a door for an older Lady whose hands were full of packages. It was an automatic door, granted, but I had my foot on the pad, nonetheless.
This is why I'm grateful for AZB. As a matter-of-fact my new motto for this coming year is going to be: Ask not what AZB can do for you, but what you can do for AZB.

(Hey, pt. Do you think they bought it? Man, that was a close one.)

AZBilliards has increased my sales.

I never listed one item in these forums. I have never replied to people looking for a new cue.

Some customers asked me to post a Video, I did.

The great response made me sign back up for the GOLD MEMBERSHIP.

Thanks AZBilliards, Dave.

old pals

Like most of us old guys, was able to here from friends from long ago.You know
how you think sometimes, I wonder how old so and so is, man I should look him up.
And then WOW he posts on here and you're back in touch, and retelling the same
stories from 40 years ago. Hello again Alf, Taylor,Bill Porter, Billy Stroud, JSD and
all other Cotton Bowling Palace and Times Square guys. My wife of over 40 years
was lucky enough to have known a few of the people from back then and is a great
thrill for me to yell out "hey Pam you remember what his name , he posts on here",
her usual response is "uh yeah sort of, when did he get out". Then I run in to tell my
11 year old grandson that we are raising , hey you remember that story I told you
about that time at the pool hall when ------------, well here it is just come look. He is
so excited (rolling your eyes is a form of excitement isn't it) And I love the back and
forth arguing, and I know I'm not alone, these posts get the most hits by far. I hate
it,when one of these guys get banned. I which they had no cut contracts. Again thanks
AZ.

Justin and Big Nasty

I've met some amazing people throughout the years directly from knowing them from AZBilliards (e.g., Jay Helfert, SJM, girlwon1...).

But I think the two people I've met that have probably done the most for me are Justin Collett and Big Nasty (the late Chad Pollman) and The Action Report (TAR).

The timing for me was right, and they apparently liked what I could bring to their production. I'm very happy to say that I played a small part in their vision, a vision that was a pioneer in what we see today for online streaming pool.

Im friends with Freddie thanks to AZ!

...and many other awesome people, some of which no longer post here but are still great friends.

Game Changer for Sure!!

I played pool for twenty years, then quit for twenty years. I started playing again around 2003. At that time I came across AZB, and I've been steady reader since; notice I didn't say poster;) The amount of information on this site is off the charts!!! When I first started playing, good information about the technical aspects of the game was difficult to acquire. It's embarrassing as to how long it took me to realize/understand deflection, squirt, swerve on my own. There was no literature explaining this principle or people that I ever came in contact with talking about or explaining this or other truly technical aspects of the game. Ray Martin and George Fels helped a great deal and were probably the best books on pool for that time-frame. IMO
Now, all this information and so much more is available right here on this site!!! Totally Awesome!!!:clapping:
I haven't met a lot of AZer's, but one I did, changed my game significantly, SpiderWebComm. I met SWC at the SBE in 2006 and he taught me the basics of CTE at that time; he also showed me some 90/90 techniques. I've been using CTE as my main system since. Along with Stan S. and Ron V. products and all the freely available information on the internet, my game is a whole lot better!! This due to this site. Thank You, AzBilliards.com!!!

Also, I've bought good amount of equipment and some very nice sticks from the members. Just about everything I use to play pool with has come from this site.

Merry Christmas!!!

There are so many good things, I couldn't mention them all. But a few among many I've communicated with:

TDuncan, a fellow Joss enthusiast, and a Joss cue was my first really good one.

Skins (Tim), whom I crossed swords with, on technical cue aspects, and we found out we had more in common. I don't know anyone with more knowledge, and appreciation of calipers as a reference.

Chopdoc. I can't think of anyone who can dig as deep to identify an obscure cue. And some of those obscure cues are desirable.

Classiccues. Nobody I can think of other than Joe V. has held and seen more genuine collectible cues.

Will Prout. A gentleman, and proud to show me his collection and converse.

Mid Atlantic players, such as Bank It, Bmoremoney, and Black Balled. It's nice to hear from some of the locals with knowledge, even some who knew people like Tim Scruggs and Richard Riggie from the old days. It's a small field these days.

Too many more to mention. And, for a bit of humor, the forum is also a constant reminder that Darwin had it correct as well.

All the best,
WW

I've learned a lot here, and I've met plenty of "online" friends here, which I value a lot!

I have also gotten to meet a couple of posters in person, Banks and sfleinen. Sean and I keep track of each other via Facebook now, and that is really cool. He's visited here three times now, and I'm already looking forward to the next time he and his wife vacation here again.

There is so much about AZB to be thankful for. Its good to remember that, when the content or the conflict seems to be too annoying. Good thread, KC

Somebody sent me a subscription to Cook's Country magazine, which I love. It really lifted my spirits at that time when the forum used to mean a lot to me.
