Has anyone put points in a shaft? .... I was thinking of a ring of small ebony points in the base of a shaft.

i have not personally seen points in a shaft.....i have seen butterflies however.

I would think that the butt of the cue would have to be some sort of solid piece and then do the points in the shaft in order to look ok. I think it would look nice if it was like solid ebony forearm and then small ebony points with a black ring for the joint collar. JMO

one friend has a cue that is a 4 point, where the points begin on the butt but finish on the shaft. really amazing looking, can't recall who made it.

Pechauer does it
I've seen some older custom huebler that had them too

Like they say, not much new to cue making.
It is very common with snooker cues to have points/butterfly etc and having them match of course.

Jim Baxters cue maker friend from Russia, Dymytry (sp) does points on some of his shafts. I have played with several and seen them up close.
I rather like them myself.

Don't know Dymytry's AZ name but he is a helpful guy if you can find him on here.

This was the first RT Custom ever made, the 2nd shaft had the points coming from the ferrule down.

Mottey and Richard Black have done some cues with them.....I'm sure several others have, too, just can't think of more right offhand.

I got a chuckle from DoubleD's post because I happen to agree with him. They're ugly.
They add nothing to the function of the cue and eventually they will get out of line with the points in the forearm.
How many times are you going to face the cue to keep them in alignment???
It's not worth it, they add nothing and like he said, "they're ugly". Lol.

Here are some old Dufferin 3/4 snooker parts. The top image is a finished ebony and ash snooker cue. The bottom two images are unfinished 3/4 shafts.
