I know a lot of Polish names are hard to say but how about this one: 'Juszczyszyn'. "I'd like to buy a vowel"BTW, the guy plays really well.
I went there and it said 'just-chechen' for English and 'yus-tee-sin' for Polish. I wouldn't have been close. I always butcher EasternEuropean names. Thanks.
Linguistics was an interest of mine, and study of linguistics literally put me through engineering school. It’s a funny story to tell over beers.I know a lot of Polish names are hard to say but how about this one: 'Juszczyszyn'. "I'd like to buy a vowel"BTW, the guy plays really well.
Unless they’re from Poland, I wouldn’t trust them. See my post, and listen to this polish speaker:Commentators constantly pronounce it “you-zish-in” like musician
This. What he said. Mr Fred is spot on.Linguistics was an interest of mine, and study of linguistics literally put me through engineering school. It’s a funny story to tell over beers.
J in Poland and other countries like Germany are pronounced like a Y in English.
CZ = ch for us
SZ = sh for us
Y is like an i vowel for us ( somewhere between a short and a long i )
yoosh chi shin (again the y is pronounced
somewhere between bit and bean)
Incidentally Joshua and Fedor are pronounced
yaw shoe uh
and
fyo door or fyo drr depending on which Russian you speak to.
All attempts to phonetically represent the pronunciation are going to be futile,

How to say KONRAD JUSZCZYSZYN in English? Pronunciation of KONRAD JUSZCZYSZYN with 1 audio pronunciation and more for KONRAD JUSZCZYSZYN.www.howtopronounce.com
Probably wrong too.
I suspect it really is for the American and English audience. I interview so many European players, and all will give their English pronunciation. Grabe will say Grayb instead of GRAH beh; David will say Day vid instead of Dah veed. Etc. FSR will however pronounce his soft C’s and Z’s as TH like many Spaniard do: san cheth rweeth.This. What he said. Mr Fred is spot on.
This is the best take on Juszczyszyn, Filler and Gorst in quite a while.
(On a side note, I was puzzled when a German MC at the European Open in Fulda announced Josh in 'American' way rather than German)
Back in the mid/late 80's there was this kid who came around the 'hall whose parents had recently immigrated from some soviet state. His first name sounded sorta like 'Curt' so he was immediately 'CommieCurt'. He hated it at first but got to like it later.I suspect it really is for the American and English audience.
