I have had my paul mottey for many years, except a short time i needed to buy a car and sold it to a family member and then bought it back last year...

anyways.. the day i got it back in march 2004, i only chalked 1 shaft.. the first shaft i ever played with played perfect so i never felt the need to chalk the second shaft.. shortly after i got the cue, i recieved a shaft from a 1986 mottey that was mint, and pretty much became my spare shaft that i would use whenever i needed a new tip or felt i needed to use something different..

so as of last month. the cue is 9 years old.. still has one unchalked never used shaft... when i got the cue back last year i swore i would never sell it again.. and i can say that for sure.. i will never sell it again.

so my question is.. would you chalk that shaft and use it? or should i keep it un-used?

Chalk dat sum b!tch....

It's a pool cue. It is supposed to be played.

Absolutely chalk it and play with it enough to see how well you like it!

I'm one of the few who voted for no chalk, LOL. I get a lot of crap from friends, but that's how it is with me, especially with the Whites/Motteys...who is one of my favorite cuemakers.

Just the other day, I pulled out a Mottey to look at it, the date was 8/03. I was like, gesh 10 years went by just like that and it's in the same condition when I first got it. If I buy a cue new, chances are it will stay new, so at times I have to buy a used cue just so I have no excuse to use it.

So, my advice is go buy a used Mottey and play with it. :)

If your other shaft had only hit a few balls and the cue was mint I would say don't shoot with it. But it sounds like the cue has seen a lot of play, so the unplayed shaft does not add much extra value to the cue. So I voted to play with it. Or sell it to someone who wants a brand new Mottey shaft.

Here's a suggestion......

I would simply suggest that you send the cue and the unplayed shaft to me

I won't chalk the unplayed shaft but, I may stroke the cue a bit

However, you won't need to worry about reselling the cue.....it's in safekeeping here ;)

Just use alittle chalk
