While I didn't pick other, mmmsharps post totally hit it on the head for me. I find that most are helpful when you have questions, and that is really appreciated. I also really enjoy the mechanics and cue builders forums as those kind of things have always interested me.

I think you could possibly add an additional reason - Just a habit as a pool lover. That’s what I would have voted for if it had been an option.

Sure -- I think a lot of us just check in on a regular basis to take the pulse of the pool world and see what's shakin'.

There's all kinds of good stuff here from a wide variety of perspectives, you just have to wade through some bs and deal with the occasional fool who cannot read or is humor impaired. It's not a big deal, just part of the deal.

tsk, tsk, tsk. The list doesn't include "Reading and learning from statistics on tournaments and matches."

;)
That's because it goes without saying. It's definitely an important reason to visit AZB!

I just like the environment.it’s like being in the hall without being in the hall. You have the people with a lot of knowledge, an abundance of different level players, people you like, and people you try to avoid. I like getting others perspectives on subjects. Regardless of what you want to know if it’s pool related you can find it on AZB. The only problem i have with AZB is you can’t let your shot do the talking when you don’t agree on something. That’s frustrating!

Amongst other positives:

Definitely the age demographics. It’s good that some younger people participate on this forum but I find it refreshing to read comments from posters over the age of 40. Other billiard sites on the Internet are dominated by 16 to 30 year old males and when I visit those the sites I feel more as an observer than a participant. In contrast AZ billiards is full of characters I find it easier to relate to.

Also, technically the site is easy to follow. Things aren’t flashing on the edges…ads popping up everywhere, etc. At age 67 I also find the print easy to read.

I'm a sucker for nostalgia...... Many members here are well into their 70's and 80's and were very active in the pool scene back in the day. I love the fact that I can read first hand accounts on the environment of the local pool room back in the day, big money matches, notable players coming up the ranks...etc.

Also the NPR forum consumes a fair amount of my time. I enjoy reading and debating differing viewpoints on political issues.

I chose 'networking with like-minded people'... Lots of good & pool-knowledgeable folks around here; but I must confess, the camaraderie in NPR keeps me here. I have no interest in the pros, so there's only so many topics I can participate in covering aiming systems, cloth color, and chalk....so I bat the breeze in NPR on a wide range of topics (not just the political banter) and whatever-ish kind of stuff....but I do heavily lurk the main forum.

Would have been great to be able to choose more than one, but the poll is what do you enjoy most.

Had to choose NPR because that gets "most" of my attention. That being said, the insights and experience shared about pool tables and their maintenance is another of my favorites here in AZB. Keeping up with tournaments is another good feature.

Yup, and the flame wars in the aiming section is a good read once in a while. Controversy sells.

I chose NPR because current event and all of the stuff that makes up life is real important right now especially while we have covid running around.
I spend several times a day reading the threads and making comments between cups of coffee and naps! :)

The funny thread is a gem of a thread, I always check that one.

Main forum is the best as it has the most variety. Aiming forum can be fun if you need a dose of drama or are hungry for popcorn. Ask the instructor is great, often encapsulates things that I might be experiencing/have experienced. Ask the mechanic is an always check for me, I like to learn, try to expand my skills, and illegally help when I can (I'm not a mechanic). Ask the cue maker is great too. Lots of info in there and sometimes I'm able to help if it's more simple operations that I've done myself. Cue gallery is good. Some of the others get checked only once a week as I'm not super interested in the topics or the forum moves slow enough to not miss much.

There's a great mix here of things people like about the discussion forum. I knew NPR would be popular too.

I chose networking with like-minded pool people. It is kind of cool that the "learning more about shooting pool" option is in the lead at the time of this writing. I kind of like that. :giggle:

I agree its nice to see that people are still coming into the game. It reminds of a day when there were more rooms and more activity and it
gives me hope that one day there will be more of us.

Do you remember this day?

I voted networking with like minded individuals, but I also like pool history, and cues and other billiard memorabilia you can buy or just look at pictures of.
